Chapter 11 - Yeah, I’m a Silly Girl

Yu Yan looked at Feng Mian when the latter returned. "Are you alright? He didn't rebuke you harshly, right?"

"No, he didn't." Feng Mian forced a smile out. "Is there anything else that I need to do?"

"There's just some reviews. You can just read this for now. If there's any work later, I'll tell you."

"Got it."

Feng Mian returned back to her seat. She could sense Su Han looked at her with a mocking glance, but she paid no heed. There was some competitive tension between them because Su Han always thought that she was the burden in their team. Thankfully, she managed to keep her position and not get kicked out all this time.

Not wanting to think about other things, Feng Mian decided to focus completely on her work.

- Hopital -

On the weekend, Feng Mian came to the hospital with a large bag. She was already prepared to sleep over in the hospital. After walking for a bit, Feng Mian arrived in the VIP area and searched for her mother's room.

"Mom, I'm coming in."

"Mian'er," Lin San called out. Her face was still pale, but she looked more comfortable. "Tell me about your new job. Suddenly moving me to this expensive room is not just out of impulse, right?"

"No, it's not," Feng Mian replied with a smile. She got a call from Zhang Liang on that day that he already asked the hospital to move Lin San to the VIP room. She could only give excuses to her mother that she got a new job in order to not let her worry.

Lin San puffed her cheek. "Come on, what are you hiding from your mother now?"

"I'm really getting a new job," Feng Mian laughed as the reply. "But after New Year, I won't be able to visit you as much as before again, Mom. Don't worry, it's just for a year."

"A year?" Lin San frowned. "You're not doing any illegal work, right?"

"No, it's not illegal."

Getting married is not illegal, right? It couldn't be said to be work too, but Feng Mian wouldn't bother with the details for now.

"Is it from your brother?"

Feng Mian's lips pursed when she heard that sentence. She had one brother, but he left when their father died to join the military. Since then, he was the one who supported the family through sending money each year. However, Feng Mian had never seen him in a long time.

"No, it's not from him."

Her brother had just sent a large amount of money for their mother's operation early this year. There would be no way he could spare more money. Even if she was not sure about her brother's position, she didn't want to assume things.

Lin San sighed. She raised her head and patted Feng Mian's head. "You should stop worrying about me and focus on your own life. You're already 23 years old, so you should start to care more about your appearance and find a boyfriend. Don't just waste money for me."

Feng Mian pursed her lips. She didn't get a boyfriend. It was straight to marriage.

"I'm already signing up for another kidney transplant, Mom. Once they found a suitable one, it's time for another operation."

"Again?" Lin San frowned.

Pointing to the machine, Feng Mian explained. "Mom, you don't think of using this forever, right? If you can have a chance to not use it again in your life, wouldn't you wish to take it?"

Lin San already experienced having the operation once. Unfortunately, it seemed that her new kidney didn't last long because it experienced another failure. She knew the side effects from using a dialysis machine and honestly, not using it anymore would be good.

Sighing, she pulled Feng Mian's arm. "Silly girl. Just how long do you want to keep putting me as your priority?"

"You're my mother, so of course I'll put your priority first," Feng Mian replied. She leaned closer to Lin San. "Don't leave me alone, Mom."

Lin San patted Feng Mian and pulled her daughter's head to her l.a.p. Feng Mian didn't resist and lied there carefully, making sure that she didn't put too much weight on her mother. She didn't want to hurt her mother.

"You act like a little girl."

"I'm always a kid in your eyes."

"True enough." Lin San c.a.r.e.s.sed Feng Mian's hair as she smiled bitterly. How she wished that she could do more for her daughter and not let her little baby m.a.t.u.r.ed so early. But she had already grown up and the age for Feng Mian to be dependent on her had long passed.

Still, a mother will always treat their sons and daughter like they were still children.

Feng Mian closed her eyes. "Just let me continue to take care of you, Mom. I can do it."

"You know that you can ask for my help, right?"

"Hehe, I know that, Mom. However, I don't want to bother you with trivial matters like this anymore. I'm already 23 and I have finished my study, so I'm not a kid anymore."

Lin San laughed. "You silly girl. That's not the criteria to say that you have already become an a.d.u.l.t."

"Yes, I'm a silly girl, that's why I want to keep things the way they are."

"You're really a brat."

"Hehe."

Feng Mian stayed silent as she closed her eyes. No matter what, she didn't want her mother to leave her alone in this world. For her, her mother is the only family she had who still stayed close with her as her brother's whereabouts were unknown.
