Chapter 4: Identity crisis

   "Brother, what are you thinking?"

   Mina, who just helped Karen handle her nose, saw her cousin looking out the window in a daze, and asked curiously.

   In the past, her cousin may be a little withdrawn because of the death of her parents. After junior high school, she stopped attending high school, so she stayed at home and didn't communicate much with others;

   In this recent episode, she was seriously ill. Although her elder brother appeared to be a little "unconscious", she was much more cheerful than before, and she was also willing to talk to her brother.

   "Oh, do you want to continue school."

   Karen gently rubbed the tip of his nose. The pain was not as strong as before. There was a cotton ball in his nose, which should be taken out in a short time.

   Earlier, he was actually thinking about the things that just happened in the basement and the scenes in his dreams. Was it accidental related to his "body" and "spirit", or was he really experiencing a "spiritual event"?

   After all, for the latter, the previous basement already contains most of the triggerable conditions.

   But, after all, it is just a dream, no matter how terrifying the nightmare, after waking up, the feeling of heart palpitations will disappear immediately.

After , Karen was still thinking about his future path more.

  He doesn't think that as a "traverser", he can start a successful life by making money every day;

   But as a self-made "struggle force" in my previous life,

   He has enough confidence to rely on his own abilities and qualities to blend in a decent way in this "new world".

   After all, no matter what, the identity of "Karen" brought me, let alone help me, anyway, there is nothing to bear.

that's enough.

   "My brother used to dislike going to school the least." Mina said with a smile.

   Karen, who used to be a bit biased towards autistic patients, naturally would not like a crowded place like school.

"Going to school is very important, especially when you are young." Karen said seriously, "Most people, when they grow up and become adults, they regret it. Why can't they use it when they were young when they were studying? Work harder and suffer a little bit more."

   "My brother said this in the same tone as my mother."

   "Hehe." Karen shrugged, "Mina, pour me a glass of water."

   "Okay, brother."

   My sister obediently went to help pour the water.

   Karen opened the window in the room, fresh air rushed into his face, he took a deep breath, and then Karen closed the window again. The wind was so cold.

   Looking back, Karen saw the black cat Pall appeared on his bedside somehow, crawling there, the cat's eyes were staring at him, turning his neck slightly from time to time, as if looking up and down.

   "Pall, tut tut tut..."

   Karen tried to tease the black cat with the universal "pronunciation language" of teasing cats and dogs.

   Pall tilted his head and didn't take the bait.

   Karen stepped forward, and the black cat was not afraid, no matter what, Karen was also a family member. Karen reached out and touched the cat's head.

"Meow…"

   Pall turned his head and didn't seem to like the caress.

   "Why did Grandpa give you such a mouthful name?" Karen said to herself, "Pall...Pall, huh, it's better to be called Pu'er, it's refreshing all at once."

   The black cat moved his body. Obviously, there was no corresponding joy for this "new name" with a similar pronunciation.

   Mina brought a glass of water over and said:

   "Mom is calling to find Dad."

"Um?"

   In this era, "mobile phones" have not yet appeared, and the efficiency of landline calls to find people is actually very low.

   Besides, if nothing else, Uncle Mason should be driving his hearse now and he doesn't know which street he is "drifting" on.

After Mina delivered water to Karen, she familiarly picked up a rag and wiped the windowsill. Originally, there were two maids in Inmelais’s house. One was responsible for cleaning and doing housework and the other was responsible for cooking. After the uncle’s family and Aunt Winnie’s mother and daughter returned one after another, the two maids were also fired by the grandfather.

   Housework on weekdays is done by Mina with her younger brother Lent and her aunt's daughter Kris. The three meals are done alternately by Aunt Mary and Aunt Winnie.

   Everyone in the family has a "work", so Karen is the one who is the most idle.

   It can also be seen from the side that the always-dignified grandfather Diss is indeed different from others in his treatment of this eldest grandson.

   At this time, Grandpa walked upstairs.

  Mina stood up right away, and Karen, who was holding the water glass, stood up too;

   Many times, whether there are rules in the family does not depend on the so-called "family education" and "tradition", but depends on whether there is a person in the family who makes you awe and fear.

   Diss glanced over the grandson and granddaughter, stayed on the grandson for a while, didn't say anything, opened the door of his room, and walked in.

   The stagnant atmosphere in the air only resumed its "circulation" after the sound of closing the door.

   Karen let out a sigh of relief, looked down at Mina, and found that Mina was doing the same thing.

   "Grandpa, it seems to be very busy every day." Karen asked.

   "Yes, there are a lot of things in the church, and grandpa often travels on business." Mina replied.

   While talking, Grandpa's door was pushed open from inside, and Grandpa, who had changed into a "priest" dress, walked out again, carrying a black box in his hand.

   "I won't come back for lunch." Diss said.

   "Oh, yes, grandpa." Mina responded immediately.

   Diss went downstairs.

   After a while, Karen saw Grandpa walking downstairs in the courtyard through the window sill.

   Diss’s outfit obviously has the meaning of religious clothing, but it seems that it is a little different, giving him a very specific feeling.

   It may be seen by outsiders that Diss being a "priest" helps the expansion of the family's business. After all, his identity can easily gain the trust of the believers in the church, and he can also...take more orders for the family;

   But Karen didn't think it was that simple. After Grandpa pushed open the courtyard door and walked out, Karen suddenly found the source of the "meaning".

   "Our grandfather, kind of means Jiu Shu."

   "Brother, who is Jiu Shu?"

   "A priest who specializes in catching vampires."

   "Oh, so, is it in the drama?"

   "Well, yes. Mina, do you have to drag it all over here?"

   "Well, there are stairs."

   "Let me help you."

   "But brother, your body?"

"no problem."

   Karen started to help Mina mop the floor, and then went to drag the stairs. When changing the bucket, Karen came to the yard, where there was a big faucet, and it was quicker to get the water.

   At this time, Uncle Mason returned in his modified "Nutshell" car. Ron and Paul pushed down a stretcher with an old man lying on it. Karen saw the white hair covered by the white cloth.

   Uncle Mason ran to the yard first, without noticing Karen who was drawing water in the corner, but went straight to Aunt Mary.

   "Father is looking for you." Aunt Mary said.

   "Where's father?" Uncle Mason's eyes were a little erratic.

   This is like doing something wrong, a guilty expression of fear of being blamed by the elders, because of the professional habits of the previous life, Karen will pay attention to these details.

   "Father just went out." Aunt Mary said.

   "This..." Uncle Mason seemed to let out a sigh of relief, and then said, "It's okay, it's okay, I'm going out to find my father, maybe he's in church."

   "Well, then you go."

   Uncle Mason ran out immediately, and the car stopped.

   Aunt Mary didn’t notice the strangeness of her husband,

   Because her attention is now on this old man who has just been sent from the nursing home,

soon,

   heard Aunt Mary’s screaming:

   "Gosh, why does he have **** on his body!"

  ...

   Paul and Ron, who failed to complete their orders, were asked by Aunt Mary to be responsible for the cleansing of the remains. Faced with the angry Ms. Mary, they did not dare to resist.

   Paul transported the stretcher to the basement first, and Ron walked to Karen:

   "Master Karen, I need to borrow a bucket and a mop."

   "I'll help you carry it down."

   "No, no need." Ron twisted his neck. He was tall and fat. Although he was not very old, his beer belly was already obvious. "We can handle it."

   Karen smiled and asked, "So why didn't the caregiver clean that person's body?"

   This was supposed to be the job of nursing home nurses to clean up the remains of the clients who had passed away.

   "Master, you laughed." Ron scratched his head a little embarrassedly. "I asked the nurse who was in charge of Mr. Mossan to go to the movies for two days."

I see…

   Ron's face was slightly flushed, and he continued:

  "She said that she likes watching movies and eating popcorn. When the time comes to watch the movie, she can feed it to me personally, so...so I don't want to feed my hand that eats popcorn at that time. I just wiped that thing on the body.

Master, did you know that feeding popcorn to each other when watching a movie is really a sweet thing. Under the dim light, when she brings popcorn to your mouth, you can still lick her fingers with your tongue ;

   Oh, my god, this is so wonderful! "

   "Dream you."

   Paul’s voice came. He had already transported Mr. Mossang into the basement, and now he came up to get plastic gloves and washing powder.

   "Paul, I know, you are jealous of me!"

   "Envy you? Come on, Ron, in this world, except for Mrs. Hughes, the proprietress of the Hughes Cremation Club, she will like you. I guess no other woman will like you."

   "You talk nonsense!"

   Ron fingered Paul with anger.

   "Mrs. Hughes?" Karen asked curiously.

   It sounds like the proprietress of the cremation club should be a rich woman. Why is Ron so excited?

"Haha." Paul laughed first, and then explained, "Master Karen, you shouldn't know that before the body is burned in the furnace, gasoline needs to be sprayed on the body to support combustion, and thin people often need more. Gasoline, otherwise the bones won’t burn. But for fat people, the oil on your body can help you burn.

   So, Mrs. Hughes from the cremation club likes Ron's figure the most because he saves fuel. "

   "It turned out to be like this."

   "Damn it, Paul, how dare you arrange me like this in front of Master Karen!"

   "Let's go, let's go down and do things first, otherwise Mrs. Mary will lose her temper again."

   Ron and Paul walked to the basement carrying things while quarreling.

   In the hall, Aunt Mary lit a cigarette, and her mood was not so bad.

   Because Paul told her the good news, that this old man named Mosang has children, and they will come later.

If is not a welfare bill, it means there is oil and water, and even the lowest level package is profitable.

   Aunt Mary’s “salary” must also be supported by the “performance” of the family, and the remaining profit after deducting expenses will be given to the family as an allowance;

  Accounting, Aunt Winnie is in charge.

   This is also the reason why the family is afraid of Grandpa but no one speaks ill of him behind his back. He is very serious, but he is by no means a stingy and greedy old man.

   Karen went back to the second floor and helped his cousin Mina clean the furniture.

   When it was almost finished, I heard Ron and Paul coming up from the basement below. They had cleaned up the remains, and then Aunt Mary had to do it.

  Because family members may come over in the afternoon to arrange the memorial service, it is necessary to treat the elderly better at this time.

   However, there seems to be a visitor at home, and Karen heard Aunt Mary calling herself downstairs:

   "Karen, you come down to entertain Mr. Hoffen."

   Karen, who put down the rag, first searched for "Mr. Hoffen" in his mind:

   This is an old man, a retired teacher in the philosophy department of the university, has a good pension, and lives in a decent way. He is a good friend with his grandfather, and often comes to his grandfather for tea and chat.

   In addition, he is also very interested in fortune-telling. He once gave Karen an exquisite playing card, not a tarot card...it is the kind that can be played in Fighting Landlords.

   Karen first went to the kitchen on the second floor, made a cup of tea, and matched some simple refreshments, and walked to the living room on the first floor.

  Mr. Hoffen is tall, but he is very thin;

   Thin people tend to have more three-dimensional features and more intuitive expression of emotions.

   When Karen saw him,

   found that Mr. Hoffen's gaze was directly locked on himself.

   Even the big golden retriever, the pet dog lying on his stomach next to Mr. Hoffen, seemed to have sensed the owner's mood swings, and stood up slowly, but it was a little dazed, not knowing what went wrong.

   Until it saw Pu'er crawling at the entrance of the stairs, it seemed to instinctively found a point of interest, and wanted to get up and go.

   But Pu'er just swept across the cat's eyes, and the big golden retriever was going to wilt immediately, and went back on his stomach again.

   "I'm sorry, Mr. Hoffen, my grandpa is out, but I think my grandpa should be back soon, and my uncle has already gone to look for him. UU Reading www.uukanshu.com"

   Karen put the tea down and said something about it.

   Who knows,

at this time,

  Mr. Hoffen slammed his hand out and grabbed Karen’s wrist, his entire face was immediately attached, and the sound of breathing became extremely rapid at this time.

   He used a repressed but uncontrollable excited tone,

   asked:

   "You are not Karen... who are you... on earth?"

  In an instant, a sense of crisis struck Karen's mind. This kind of crisis came from the fact that the other party directly tore up his identity in a single encounter, making Karen, who had already done psychological construction for half a month, a little at a loss.

   Karen subconsciously took two steps back, trying to distance himself from Mr. Hoffen.

Coincidentally, Mr. Hoffen, who was holding Karen's wrist, was taken out of his balance. He staggered unexpectedly. He used his hand to support the table, but unfortunately he was empty again, and his body followed. He fell forward and knocked his forehead directly on the edge of the table.

"boom!"

   a muffled noise came out,

   immediately,

   Mr. Hoffen fell backward, and fell on the tile without any hindrance on the back of his head;

"Snapped!"

   Karen looked at this scene in amazement.

   The old man who just pointed out his "identity problem" directly, now has more air out than air in;

and,

   On the tiles of the living room under his head, a large swath of blood began to spill.

   At this time, Mina, who was still busy on the second floor, seemed to have heard the sound and shouted at the top of the stairs:

   "Brother, what happened downstairs?"

   Karen licked her lips,

   stood up slowly and straightened up.

   replied:

   "Mr. Hoffen suffered a stroke and fell down."
