A Cheat's Survival Journal

Chapter 12 - A Free Man, Delivering a Package

Seeing all the officers rush here, I was calmly walking away with Beth slightly behind me. I could get a few seconds of a head start to find Noah but it wouldn't matter since I can't explain why Dawn is unconscious unlike how I can explain the gunfire. "I actually kinda hate this place now. But it's whatever, I'm leaving now so my opinion on this place doesn't matter anymore. How's Rick doing?" I asked Beth while we leisurely made our way to the laundry room. I knew the answer of Rick's current series of events since after all, she's here. He's dealt with a crazy governor, cannibals, and a lot of deaths with people that he has grown close to, he never gets a break... "I don't know, we were separated from each other."

"Ah, oh well, we'll be seeing each other soon. It'll probably take a week but it'll be fine. Ah, there's Noah." While I was shrugging off Beth's obvious depression of the prison residents being separated and perhaps dead, though most of them are dead. Daryl's brother, Dixon.. Is he alive? "Hey Beth.. What about Dixon, is he still around?" Beth gave me my answer, "No. He was executed along with my father." Damn, I'm further increasing her depression. I'll just stop talking, it's best to learn the situation from Rick instead of this bundle of depression with a dash of crazy.

Arriving at Noah, I grabbed him and informed him of what's going on. "Currently, we're leaving this place and very soon there will be officers coming to detain us." Noah nodded and asked a bit confused, "But how are we going to get out?" I waved him off and pulled out my pistol before saying, "Leave it to me, just take cover." But in my mind, I thought, 'Time to take out a couple of dirty cops.' Taking position around the corner from the hallway of which we came from, I heard the quick approaching steps and peeked out, locating my targets along with him seeing me.

The officers all halted and got into position which was a few rows of each other, filling up the hallway. "Jin, stand down. This doesn't have to end this way!" I laughed and walked out into the open, facing them without any signs of fear or hesitation. Just pure confidence of me leaving this place with a hidden jewel and a bundle of depression that will grant me some brownie points. I said with a slight smirk filled with smugness, "I'm leaving but not after killing Alvarado, O'Donnell, and Bob Lamson." The officers became guarded, ready to fire at any moment.

Noah shouted towards me, "Why kill Bob?" I said to Noah without breaking eye contact with Tanaka who was on point, "He's someone who won't hesitate to save his life while sacrificing his fellow comrades." Noah with a bit of rage said, "How do you know that?!" I smiled and said, "I just do. Just like how I know you'll be a great architect." Cutting off my conversation with Noah, I pulled out my gun and shot O'Donnell along with Alvarado who were in the front row together. After firing, I immediately dolphin dived back around the corner and the shots poured in.

I grabbed Noah and Beth before making a run down the hall and making a left, my target was the elevator shaft where bodies are disposed of. Behind us were a bunch of gunshots and shouting, I glanced back occasionally to look for my final target while predicting where the bullets are heading. The occasional shakes and tugs that I did for Beth and Noah, truly did save their legs and body, but mostly their legs.

Arriving at the locked door that leads to the elevator shaft, I immediately kicked it open and ran towards the shaft. Noah immediately said, "Alright, now what? We can't jump down there without dying." I shook my head and said, "Indeed."

'I am the one who's going to be jumping down, you two are going to be knocked out and carried on my shoulders!' As I was thinking that, I knocked them out swiftly with a swift hit to their temples and lifted them up onto my shoulders. "Too bad I couldn't get Bob, he isn't that bad though. They'll just have a bit of loss eventually," I said to myself out as I jumped down the elevator shaft and used my Kagune to lower the speed of my descent. Arriving in the bas.e.m.e.nt, it wasn't that hard to navigate to the exit due to my better senses while stabbing zombies in the head with my kagune. After getting out the door, I ran towards the gate and hopped over using my kagune, doing the same for the second gate as well.

The officers were left in the dust the moment, I jumped down the elevator causing them to double back.

Seeing the sun and feeling it on my skin, I felt great. The wind blowing against my skin as I ran down the street, the slapping of my feet against the pavement, the zombie groans as the ambient sound being blocked out from my breathing. All these elements made me feel free and made my stream shout in joy while chanting, "Jin is free! Jin is free! Jin is free!" It seems like they viewed me as an inmate who happened to be a gang leader inside the hospital. They weren't wrong, it's basically what I was while inside that place.

But for now, I think I'll keep running and racking up some points by killing zombies with my kagune. I didn't forget my objective either, I gotta find Rick but I don't know how I would find him. Thinking for a solution, I remembered my trusty ability customization manipulation! This is a cheat that can give me an edge when I most need it. I immediately gave myself a skill that'll allow me to know the direction of someone that I've met, [I'm Never Never Gonna Give Ya' Up - Track someone who you've met before, no matter where they might be! Of course, the afterlife is included.]

With a smile on my face, two unconscious survivors on my shoulders, my kagune whipping around killing zombies and knocking the survivors out again when they begin to wake up; I began my run to Rick, yearning to reunite with an old pal.
