A Cripple's Journey To World Domination

Chapter 3 - The Kingdom of Rubidia

It had been a week since Wu Fa arrived in the world of Arkologia. After having been tutored by Sharon, he had learned a lot about his new world. Arkologia was divided into five continents: the Northern Continent, the Southern Continent, the Eastern Continent, the Western Continent, and finally, the Middle Continent. The Kingdom of Rubidia, where he lived, was a small human kingdom on the Western continent. Knowledge of the other four continents were quite shallow.

To the west of Rubidia was the Great Forest, inhabited by woodland elves. To the north was the Republic of Giorge, a multi-racial kingdom led by wealthy merchants. To the south were the Ebresian mountains where the dwarven mines existed, and to the southeast was the Pash desert ruled by the mercenary nation of Za.

Rubidia, the Great Forest, the Republic of Giorge, Ebresia, and Za formed the Five Kingdom Alliance. Most of Rubidia's trade took place with these other four nations. Throughout the Western Continent there existed around thirty alliances similar in size and strength to the Five Kingdom Alliance. A couple behemoths that towered above the rest of the kingdoms and alliances ruled the Western Continent while there were also many weaker nations that were too weak to mention.

The biggest shocker in this new world to Wu Fa was magic. Magic decided the strong and the weak. There were two types of magic: internal magic and external magic. External magic involved utilizing mana of the environment in spells. Beast taming, summoning, weapon enhancement, medicine concoction, and a huge variety of charm, defense, teleportation, enhancement, projection, and other spells all fell under external magic. In contrast, internal magic was much more mysterious. Few methods on internal magic practice existed, and those that did exist were usually incomplete. Internal magic cultivated a user's strength, speed, and mental powers through magic that originated from the user himself, rather than the environment. Legend had it that a powerful cultivator of internal magic could even utilize a technique called "Emperor's Domination" to freeze all time and space within a certain radius.

Wu Fa was initially very excited, but his hopes were crushed quite soon after learning that not only was he a cripple, but also that he had zero talent in magic whatsoever whether internal or external. His body had almost no natural magical energy, and the mana of the environment dispersed wherever he went. "Aiyah, I guess I'll just become an influential merchant and raise a private bodyguard of mages. Then I can travel the world. I'm not some overly-ambitious 'rule-the-world' type of guy anyway so I don't need magic. With my knowledge from Earth, earning money will be easy."

Wu Fa's current identity was that of John Wess.e.x, the youngest of the three children of Duke Wess.e.x of Rubidia. His older sister Leona was a self-proclaimed apothecary who could never pass the apothecary exams. His older brother Henry was a promising young knight of the Rubidian Knight Order. His father, Duke Joseph Wess.e.x, was one of nine dukes of Rubidia, directly below the King. Further below the nine dukes were 108 marquises. The imperial court, the dukes, and the marquises made up the nobility of Rubidia. The rest of the population consisted of commoners and peasants.

Wu Fa turned to Sharon and asked, "Sharon, I'd like to go out and travel a bit. Can I get permission from Father?"

Sharon was a bit surprised and responded, "Where would you like to go Young Noble?"

"Oh not anywhere really. I just needed a breath of fresh air. How about the village market?" asked Wu Fa. In the territory of Duke Wess.e.x, the village market was where most of the trade for the peasants and artisans happened. The village had a church which acted as both a school and an orphanage for commoners.

"The village? In that case, you don't need permission. Before you lost your memories, you would travel to the church to visit the orphans every week. I had thought you meant travelling out of the Duke's territory. I'll get ready, and we can leave anytime you want," replied Sharon.

"Okay, then let's leave in an hour," said Wu Fa. Inwardly he was thinking, "Ho, this John was a pretty decent person. What bad luck to have a sister like Leona!"
