A Father's Duty

Aria woke up in her bed and she felt dizzy. She tried to stand up when she remembered what happened before she lost consciousness. She felt furious when she remembered that Lucis Kingdom is breaking her engagement and went to her father.

When she saw her father, she acted coyly towards him before asking.

"Father, you rejected their proposal of breaking our engagement right?" she asked him.

"No." He answered back plainly.

"Why?!" She shrieked.

"We almost lost the kingdom because of your actions! We were almost destroyed! Do you know who are the envoys?! To sling mud towards their country in front of their faces?! That's right! You don't!" He said with clear frustration in his voice.

This was the first time that Aria was scolded harshly by her father and it is a new feeling for her. All her life, she was always spoiled by her father. He always gave her what she wanted, What she needs, and she can do anything she want without any repercussions because of her father's protection. So hearing him like this caused Aria to feel shocked about it.

"Father, what do you mean? I mean who are they? Aren't they just lowly envoys? Aren't they kneeling towards you because they are afraid of you?" She asked.

Marley couldn't held himself back anymore as he laughed in madness.

"Lowly envoys? Afraid of me? Those only work towards Kingdoms that are less powerful than us! Meanwhile those 'lowly' envoys you just spoke of, kneeled to me as a sign of respect! The reason why we are more powerful than other surrounding countries is because of the help we are receiving from Caelum that you call 'disgusting fisherman island'!" Aria was shocked to hear those words from her father. When she was a kid she always acted coyly towards her father so that she won't have to do those etiquette and skip politics lessons that's why she doesn't have a shred of idea about what goes around their territory.

"And those 'lowly envoys' you spoke about? Their status are much higher than you. They just spared your life twice! Aria, twice! You are also to blame why they resolutely dissolved your engagement." King Marley said while Aria is confused, the only thing that stuck in her mind is that she was at fault for the dissolution of the engagement.

"The envoys that came to break the engagement are the princes of Lucis. Noctis and your fiancee, Somnus, himself. You slung mud at their country, you want to play and capture and torture them? YOU DESTROYED YOUR ENGAGEMENT ALL BY YOURSELF! You were the cause why they want the engagement dissolved!" King Marley said as he sat down fatigued in his throne.

Aria fell to her knees as she processed her father's words. She can't believe that the envoys she is mocking, is actually her fiancee and his brother.

"No this isn't happening. Tell me its not true father!" she pleaded but all she saw was King Marley stood up in his throne and left her to rest.

Aria sobbed as she still can't believed what just happened. She then remembered that they came here to ask for her 'dead' sister's hands.

"Its your fault, its all your fault! I tried to spare you because I've been the one receiving all of Somnus' love through the letters he gave me. You're the cause of all this!" She made up her mind and laughed like a maniac as she decided to finally end the life of her sister, Helen.

She once stumbled upon Helen's attendant at night and accidentally bumped on the messenger. She was about to punish him for bumping into her but she saw a letter entitled to Helen with Somnus as the sender. She can't help but feel jealous about it and hatched a ridiculous plan to be the one receiving all of Somnus' love.

She burned her sister's room and had Helen's attendant take her place as the one who died from the fire. Meanwhile, she scarred her face and tortured Helen before letting her out in the slums and let her to bleed out in there. When she was sure that she bled out and was about to turn back, a bunch of kids rushed towards Helen's body and picked her up.

With her sister, gone. Declared dead under the fire she created, she successfully replaced Helen as the receiver of Somnus' love. It took her a week and a half to successfully copy Helen's handwriting and sent a letter back to Somnus.

Years later, when she is parading in the plaza, she saw one of the kids that helped out Helen and she asked her guard to follow the kid covertly. She then learned about Helen being alive but weak and ordered her guard to pay a gang to harass her.

She thought that, that, was the end of it, but when she learned of the dissolution of her engagement, her hatred for Helen started to rise once more and decided to finally end her life before her obsession, Somnus, ever learns about it.

She called her trusted guards and started marching towards the slums where she knew where her sister was.

Meanwhile those hiding in the shadows started moving as they told one of their members to relay the message to me while they followed the third princess.

Somnus and I were currently eating as Somnus really can't believe that his brother was the one who made it. He then had a thought of having Helen try his brother's cooking as he became depressed.

"Thinking about her again?" I asked as Somnus nodded.

"I told you, you should've b*nged her when you got the chance." I told him trying to lighten the situation and I knew that it succeeded when Somnus coughed while eating food.

"Enough *cough* about me *cough*, tell me, how did you and sister-in-law met?" He asked me.

"Its a foolish story actually. I don't want to remember the stupidity that happened that time. But the gist of it is because of the stupid thing I did, Irene and I, have met." I said and before Somnus continued, a shadow came in and reported to me. I grinned after having heard of the report.

"What's the matter, brother?" Somnus asked.

"The shark has taken the bait." I said with a really wide grin and Somnus got chills seeing that crazy grin.
