Chapter 18 - Research Floor

I locked the west stair case door as I exited, when I moved downwards, if something did go to the top floor I would know.

Ella and me moved down the stairs and stood in front of the 14th floor. Like the top it was locked, it wasn't a padlock this time though. It was a key card lock. I had no clue what the hospital does on these top floors, but to have a key card system, must mean it was important.

I slashed the equipment apart and sliced open the lock area. Because the sword could cut through metal, it made it pretty easy.

The corridor that greeted me, looked a bit more high-tech than then last one. There was blood and tar about, so I knew there were infected around.

Walking down the corridor, the layout of the floor seemed to be different than I was expecting.

When I reached the part where the reception is supposed to be, there was a guard station there. Like a booth area with metal detectors to the side and stuff. It was very air port security.

A clock still hung up above the wall and I could see it was 7:25. Even though it was bright at this time of day, the light seemed to be blocked off. The windows didn't let any light through, and they didn't even let me look outside.

The hell?

The sign board that hung above the station read (Research section C).

They do research in this hospital? What do they research?

The 4 branch corridors from the station led to locked doors, which also had key car systems. One of them was still standing, but the other 3 were knocked over. There were some bloodied hand prints on the broken doors.

I gripped my blade tighter, that's where they'll be. I motioned for Ella to stand back a bit, as I moved towards one of the 3 doors. Going in the corridor lead to some interesting rooms, with a clearly different layout from the patient rooms. These ones were bigger and had more observation windows.

Glass was scattered over the floor as I took peeks into them. There was nothing in the first 2 rooms, but on the 3rd I spotted 2 regulars. Analyzing them they were both level 3.

As I was distracted my boots crunched some of the glass under my feet. There 2 head's snapped in my direction and I was caught in their sight.

Damn, I've got to watch what I'm doing!

They started to move towards me. Because of my high AGI they didn't look like they were moving too fast, but if it was back when I first started, they would have outstripped me easily. I moved towards the door of the room and readied myself.

My sharp blade had a bit of trouble cutting the last level 3 I faced, but I should be able to kill them quickly. As they reached my position at the door, I back off and moved to the right. Because the door wasn't that wide, one had to come through first.

As it rounded the door I sent a quick jab at his head. The blade was sharp enough that it sunk in easily. The first one's body turned limp and fell head first towards the floor. I quickly retracted my blade as the second one stepped over the body of its fallen comrade. In its awkward movement of stepping over, I slashed at the raised leg to throw it off balance.

It tripped on its ally and I quickly finished it off with a swing to the head. Clearing up the globes after the 2 fell; I received 2 entertainment points and another regular sword. I decided to move into the room and see what the infected were gathered around.

Moving over towards a certain bench, I saw a leg sticking out in my field of view.

*Crick*

I grit my teeth and slammed my hand into the bench. The bench buckled under the force and the top snapped. It was another survivor.

Crap. I was late again!

I took my frustration out on the area around me and smashed a few more things. I did create a bit of noise, but I didn't care if I attracted a few more of those things. I should be able to handle these level 3's.

As I was venting my anger, Ella started to eat the corpses of the infected again, and after finishing a good deal of both of them, moved towards the survivor.

I threw a look at her and wanted to stop her, but I didn't.

I could feel the hunger that was coming from her, and she was practically drooling as she looked at the survivor's body. The other ones hadn't eaten a lot of the body, and there was a lot left.

I don't know why I'm not stopping her; if she eats the survivor she can get stronger attributes. But on the other hand, she's eating a person.

There was a certain line between infected and human that I had drawn in my head. But I realized that as I stared at the dead body she was about to eat, I wasn't adverse to the idea.

I felt disgusted with myself; I think I was losing some of my humanity as I calmly let her start to eat the body.

*Munch**Crunch*

I bent down and picked up the globe in front of the survivors body. I could hear the noise of her eating, and felt sick. I moved out of the room.

"I'm Despicable."

*Munch**Crunch* *Suck*

On the likely hood that Ella would get better stats when she eats, I was going to let her eat a survivor. Just so it could help me later.

*Munch**Crunch*

I think tears started to gather as I lost some of my humanity.

*Slurp* *Suck* *Crunch*

I Stayed quit and crushed the globe in my hands, as the noise continued on.
