Chapter 36 - Morality Part 1

I started to enjoy my meal as father watched.

It was weird; Father didn't usually watch me when I was eating. I don't think he liked it, but this time he stayed and watched the whole thing.

I tried to be quitter than usual not to disturb him.

I could tell there was something different about this meal. Not to mention the effort Father put in to try and talk to it, but after the meal was subdued and fresh to eat, he became somber.

I walked to his side to heal his wound, his blood was flowing out but he didn't seem to care. The p.l.e.a.s.u.r.e of eating his blood was good, but I was so distracted by his overflowing emotions.

I could tell he was sad, and that something was wrong. I tried smiling at him but he didn't smile back. He usually smiles back at me.

There was only one instance where Father didn't smile back at me, after I gave him my winning grin, it was the first time I saw Father really angry, and that meal was also like this one.

Looking down at the fresh meal I could only shake my head and comment.

"A stupid meal!"

It was so stupid; my Father had been trying to talk to it. Probably something important, maybe even trying to keep it for a later date.

But it kept attacking us!

I mean even when my Father tried his best to get it to stop it just looked at me and then stabbed him.

I really wanted to rip it apart myself when I saw it hurt father that last time. He hadn't left any marks before that, and the loss of blood was going too far.

Father doesn't usually call meals, meals, he calls them something different. He even tried to explain it to me a few times. He kept saying words like wolves, infected, zombies, humans. They were all meals in the end though.

I could however say for certain that human meals were tastier. The infected meals that I usually ate, where actually the worst, even those insect meals tasted better. At the minute I had run into less and less infected meals and more zombie meals had appeared.

I usually just call them "big meals" though; they tower over all the other meals, even father. More for me to eat!

We had trouble with one of them when we first met them, they surprised us. But after that first one, we easily killed the others. And their meat was sooo good, I completely gorged myself on the first and second big meal we ran into. But later on when I wasn't so hungry I just ate the good parts.

The good parts are usually the head area and c.h.e.s.t area. The brain has a certain taste to it that is just to die for, and the c.h.e.s.t area keeps the heart.

All the blood in a meal would be coming and going through that area. When you tasted that part it was like I could taste all its blood at once. But I'm really getting sidetracked here; yes the different names of meals. I tried to remember them so I could ask for them later.

Better to ask Father for specific meals when I get hungry it'll make it easier for father.

For once though, as I commented on the stupid meal, Father actually replied.

"Yes, a stupid meal."

He said it in a quiet voice but I heard him when he said it.

I knew he also thought of them as meals!

I was happy when he agreed with me, but even that feeling of happiness was smothered by the sad feelings that were coming from Father. I looked back at the meal and almost sighed like Father, something was wrong here.

I shook my head twice and pumped myself up; if Father was sad I would just have to make him happier. Better deal with this meal first though. It may have been disobedient but it smelled very delicious, I'm sure Father would let me eat it.

His never said no before.

I turned back to look at Father to voice my request, but before I did another wave flowed to me. It was a coldness I'd only felt a few times.

"6000 points huh. Damn god"

I listened to what he said but I had no clue what it was about, he had mentioned a 'god' before and every time he did his emotions would spike up. Giving him a moment I then asked him about the meal.

"Father is it fine for me to eat?"

I had learned about being polite from Father in passing, I didn't usually ask when I ate the big meals, but because this was a human meal, I thought Father might mind it. Last time I had a human meal he wasn't happy, and his emotions where so cold right now.

My eyes must have been begging, I could tell how much I wanted to eat this meal. I guess I would have to call it instincts, they were screaming at me to eat the meal.

Father turned away from what he was doing and looked at me; I could see coldness in them I hadn't seen before. It softened when his eyes actually focused on me though. He seemed to be having a dilemma in his head as he stared hard at me and then at the new meal.

He didn't spend too long on the decision as determination filled his eyes.

"Yes…. Go ahead Ella"

His voice cracked slightly as he gave me permission, I didn't dwell on it too much as I dived onto the meal, any much longer and it wouldn't be as fresh. The c.h.e.s.t area started to stop and the blood from it wouldn't be as nice if left for too long.

And now we're back to where we started, I became slightly self-conscious when Father was staring so intently at me. His feelings rammed into me as I ate, they were so chilled I found it hard to concentrate on what I was eating.

I was hungrier than usual and wanted to gorge myself but under his watch I ate slowly, trying hard not to make a noise. Maybe he wanted to eat as well?

But that didn't make sense, he didn't like to eat meals, well he ate his own meals which didn't taste very good. But these types of meals that were like himself, he didn't want to eat.

I decided to test it out and offered him a good piece, but he just shook his head and told me to continue. Something wasn't right with Father for sure!

I started to eat faster as he continues to watch, I wasn't bothered much anymore. Maybe he's just taking an interest in how to properly eat a meal. He might want to try it himself soon!

I got excited and started to eat faster.

*Crunch* *Suck* *Slurp*

I may have got too excited as I became very loud again, but I didn't mind that and kept going. I wanted to describe how good it was too him, but thought that might be too much for now. So I just continued to eat and by the time I realized it, I had already finished.

I must have been hungrier than usual as I finished every last morsel, I didn't leave anything. Wiping my mouth and smiling back up at Father, he continued to stare for a few seconds as a tear slid down from one of his eyes.

I got up and helped him wipe it. Helping Father was something that made me happy.

He reacted to my touch and finally some of the coldness he was radiating simmered down, it didn't go away and he didn't smile at me.

But I think it was working.

Maybe if I called him "brother" Like he wants me to it'll help? Yeap that will help. I smiled, I would make Father happy.

"Brother!"

I called out to him in a bright voice; he looked surprised for a second and then straightened himself.

"Sister"

He whispered it and rubbed my head, I was making progress.

"Ok let's go Ella"

He gathered his stuff and we continued on our way. There were no more big meals on this floor so we covered the whole thing in about an hour. Father had been teaching me a lot of things, so I was able to tell things like time now.

Well I couldn't tell without a clock, but he praised me whenever I could get something right and learn it, so I tried my best. It was getting a lot easier for me to learn things recently so I received more praise. I liked when that happened.

Moving down to the next floor this one was also clear of big meals and normal meals, no I mean zombies and infected. From what had happened so far, it was likely that a human meal had cleared this floor.

The human meals may be a lot weaker than the big meals, but they were smart like Father, so whenever we reached a cleared floor it was usually caused by one of them. My mouth almost watered from thinking about how good a human meal tastes.

Of course I would have to ask Father first, he seemed to want to talk to the human meals. He had even told me he was a human meal, but he must have been confused. I knew Father and me were way above those ordinary human meals.

When we were moving down the south corridor, something Father taught me, we ran into something amazing. I mean I was so surprised when I first walked into the room. I had never seen anything like it.

It was almost heaven on earth, it was so beautiful.
