I had just finished the meals when I felt something tug inside me.

I shifted my sight to the left and felt father's presence get stronger.

He was coming back!

I instantly knew he was coming to look for me and grew excited. Leaving the new meal that I had decided to stalk, I ran towards the familiar presence.

I twisted and turned down the street as the feeling got stronger and stronger. And then I saw him.

My body stopped in shock as I looked at him.

What was going on?

That thought jumped into my head before fear, followed by anger. My head cooled down as I dashed even faster towards father, my heart beating erratically.

He was covered in blood and looked haggard as he walked slowly towards me. My mind was absent as I closed in on him.

"Father!"

I shouted out in my thoughts as I reached him, my panic was setting in. Covered in so much blood, he had been attacked!

I rushed up to him and quickly started to check his body. He just gave me a gentle smile as he saw my actions and reassured me.

"It's not my blood Ella."

His words registered in my cold head, but that didn't avail me of my worry. Through our connection I could feel how tired he was, something happened.

I continued to check him to make sure he was alright and then supported him. He struggled slightly as I held onto his shoulder and held him, but I increased my strength, with how weak he felt, I wouldn't let him go.

He gave up after a few seconds and let out a defeated sound.

"So you're not going to let go?"

I just shook my head in response and put on a determined expression.

"No! Father is tired."

"Well I did exhaust myself with that fight, but I'll be fine."

I just shook my head and stuck to my guns, I wouldn't let him go until I was sure he had recovered. Feeling my determination he stopped trying to argue and we made our way back towards home.

It was getting dark and father wanted to return for the night. I also wanted to go home and rest with father; it had been tough on him today.

Knowing that he was fine, I was finally able to set my mind on the anger that I felt. My head was cold from the anger and I wanted to kill whatever meal had dared attack father.

"What inferior beings did this to father?"

My voice was cold and I was sure that my aura was released; I was just so infuriated to see such a situation.

Why do meals always have to fight back? Why do they target me and father?

They really should be glad that we would want to eat them, but no every time I or father has been hurt; it has been caused by meals. I needed to teach these meals a lesson; I had to find some way to get them to be obedient.

"Ahh don't worry about it Ella, I've already taken care of them."

"Serves them right! Did you make them suffer?"

Father only showed a tired smile as he heard my question.

"No, no, Ella I just killed them."

"You should have made them suffer before they died, it's unforgivable to hurt father!"

Father only raised his hand and rubbed my head, then brushed the subject to the side.

"Let's leave that aside Ella, they got what they deserved."

I wanted to say more about the subject and argue with father about this, but I didn't, I could feel he didn't want to talk about it. I wouldn't usually disagree with father on any matter, as he was always right, but I think he dropped this subject too quickly.

For meals to have done such a thing to father it could not be tolerated! By making them suffer before being killed, we would teach them and other meals a lesson. Not to mention the fact that father wouldn't eat them either, that is such a disgrace!

For them not to be deemed worth to be eaten is the greatest insult!

If we were let such behavior continue and not stamp it out of potential meals, then it will happen again. My brain worked hard as I thought of the subject and what would happen if such behavior was to continue.

I knew that father had a soft spot for the meals that tasted really good, but it would be bad for us in the future. I really wanted to bring it up with father right now, but decided not to.

I would surprise father and show him what I was capable of if such a situation was to occur again. I swore to myself then and there that should a meal ever try and attack me and father again, I would make sure to discipline it and make it suffer to teach the rest of them.

Only in this way could I be assured that we could enjoy our meals in peace.

I would never forgive any meal that tried to attack us!

After a while and as night was starting to set in we finally made it back home.

It didn't look different from when we left and it felt nice to return. I was still supporting father as we made our way into the building and then ascended the stairs. Once we reached the top floor and made it back into our room, I could feel father relax in my arms.

The tension that had been plaguing him had dispersed and he had calmed down. I helped him over to the bed and then let him down. He gave me thanks before ruffling through his bag. I could see many globes rustling about inside and I remembered my own bag slung across my back.

"Father here!"

I pulled of the bag and opened it up to show him the spoils of eating, that I had achieved. I always remembered to pick up any and all the globes that dropped on the ground after I had my fill.

"So many!"

Father seemed surprised for a second at the number of globes I had collected, which made me even happier. I lowered my head slightly and waited for him to rub it, it felt nice when his warm hand made contact with my hair.

I didn't have to wait long as he soon rubbed my head while going through the bag. His hand suddenly stopped on a certain globe and his face became focused.

Did something happen?

"Ella what is this?"

I didn't know what he was talking about as he held the globe is his hand? Seeing that I couldn't understand what he was talking about, he started to ask me questions about what happened after he left and if I had met any meals that were like him.

"Yes I did, 3 of them! Thank you for sending them to me!"

I had almost forgotten to say my thanks, for sending those meals earlier, I had completely forgotten in my worry and just now remembered fathers kindness. Fathers face turned even stranger as he asked about the meals he had 'sent' me.

I then described in detail the meals that had come and told me that they had bought me lunch, before they moved into an ally way and stripped to be eaten.

As I told the story I could tell fathers changing emotions as he processed what I told him. He got pretty angry when I had told him about them stripping to be eaten.

I wonder why?

After finishing my story and waiting for his response, father just sat there for a while before giving me a hard look.

"I didn't send them Ella."

I was shocked by his words, I couldn't believe them!

"But, but, they said…"

Father cut me off before I could continue.

"They lied to you Ella."

"But they let me eat them???"

I was confused with what was going on, if they weren't sent by father what were they doing, why would they lie to me!

Meals shouldn't lie!

"They were trying to eat you."

When those words left fathers mouth, my eyes widen to the biggest they had ever been.

THEY HAD BEEN TRYING TO EAT ME!!!!!

I was shocked by the ridiculousness of meals trying to eat me, that I was stunned for a second before the anger of how audacious they had been filled me up.

I had disciplined them slightly as they had been disobedient while I was eating them, but to think they had been trying to eat me!!!

I should have made them suffer and submit to their fate, then to really hurt them. Not eat them!

I was fuming for a while as I realized what had happened, but one thing still puzzled me.

"Meals lie?"

I could hardly believe it! I hadn't really talked to any meals since I was born, but to think they would lie to me or father was unfathomable. Father just nodded my head at the question.

"Yes Meals Lie, you shouldn't trust them!"

I nodded my head vigorously at his words, now that I know that meals lie, I would never trust one again. Even when I make them submit and they are about to be eaten, I will not trust them! The only person I can trust is Father!

"I will only Trust Father!"

I said it in a loud voice so I could get my message across to him. He just gave me a weary smile and looked like he wanted to say something. After a few seconds though, he just closed his mouth and patted my head. I relished the contact as a new world had been opened up before me.

I would have to change my view of the world with the information I had been given.

Father said he wouldn't crush any of the globes till tomorrow and decided to get to sleep.

I could feel how tired he was, so I decided I would sleep with him tonight. It's better to be closer to father, to protect him!

I told him that when I jumped in the bed, even though he wanted me to use my bed. I just ignored him and snuggled in. What I didn't tell him was that being next to him when I sleep was so peaceful. The warmth from his body always could calm me down.

Because father was tired after taking care of those meals, he actually fell asleep before me today. This didn't usually happen and was a new concept. Seeing his sleeping face was nice.

Just as I was about to follow his lead and fall asleep, I felt his body shudder for a second and I opened my eyes.

His face had contorted in pain slightly and I was worried, I was about to wake him up or ask what was wrong, when I saw that he was still asleep. He must be having a nightmare!

I had no clue what to do as a tear rolled down his face and I heard his voice.

"Father."

"Mother."

"Ella."

I shook when I heard my name at the end, the tear still running down his face.

I gently reached my hand up and wiped it away.

After I did that I hugged him tightly and wished that his dreams would become better.

I hung on to him tightly as I fell asleep.
