110. A Clue (2)

Liu Lanxue was transfixed with shock, as if struck by lightning. Mrs. Xu continued pressurizing her. Xu Tianhao gave a smug smile. For an instant, she felt that the two of them and the principal were as horrifying as tigers that were going to eat her alive. Liu Lanxue’s psychological defenses, which were already fragile enough, collapsed thoroughly.

“Lanxue… was a good kid. As her parents, we’re so useless. We have neither power nor influence, which was why she was bullied by those people.”

After the last remark, the elderly couple held their heads and wept bitterly, their voices choked.

Sergeant Luo leaning against the window was smoking. Seeing the video was over, he stubbed out his cigarette, wrapped it in the tissue that he used to contain cigarette ash, and then stuffed it into a garbage can.

“You finished it?”

Zu Zhichong returned the cellphone to Sergeant Luo. The reason why they still had heavy hearts when faced with this kind of matter was because they still held life in awe, like they had done when they had been unsophisticated.

Deeds of Xu family and this school were literally shocking.

“Fuck! These people are the lowest assholes I’ve ever heard of!” Qin Huai couldn’t help but swear, a frown on his face. “What the hell is wrong with that principal?!”

“After Liu Lanxue apologized, Xu family donated a teaching building to the School.” Sergeant Luo’s weary voice was heard.

He buried his face in his hands, rubbed it and continued, “Liu Lanxue did a lot of unimaginably odd things after suffering a mental breakdown. On the last day, when she took Xu Tianhao to the office to have a talk, Xu Tianhao was unprepared. Pity nobody knows the content of the conversation. Otherwise we would be able to deduce exactly how Liu Lanxue got Xu Tianhao killed.”

Judging from the information they had found out so far, it didn’t really matter much whether this case would be cracked or not. To put it bluntly, death had been too good for Xu Tianhao.

But evidently, there were still some questionable points in the case. Zu Zhichong asked, “Some pages of that diary were torn off. What do you think happened?”

Furthermore, according to Qin Huai, Xu Tianhao’s ghost had been pestering his niece all this time. If Xu Tianhao had deserved to die for his deeds, he wouldn’t have become a ghost even after death.

“The black gas was not as simple as it seemed. There’s probably someone else involved in this matter.”

Sergeant Luo had also never expected that things would be so tricky. A white cat came out of nowhere. When they saw it, it had already jumped inside from the sill of the open window.

Tun Shanhai, seeing Sergeant Luo and Qin Huai, didn’t dare to do anything rash. He walked among the four of them for a while and eventually leaped into He Zheng’s arms.

“Eek? Where’s this cat from?” Sergeant Luo was curious.

Lying in He Zheng’s arms, Tun Shanhai licked his paws, his yin-yang pupils sparkling.

“It’s mine.” He Zheng exchanged glances with Zu Zhichong, turned around, walked to a corner and then lowered his head.

Tun Shanhai quickly informed him in an extremely low voice, “I paid a visit to the funeral parlor. Xu Tianhao’s soul has been consumed some time ago.”

He Zheng’s heart lurched. ‘If Xu Tianhao’s soul has some time ago been consumed, how come Qin Huai’s niece is being pestered by the ghost of ‘Xu Tianhao’?’

The whole thing was still shrouded in mystery.

He patted Tun Shanhai on the back and said, “I’ll tell Zu Zhichong. Go back to the police station first. Although Liu Lanxue is dead, there’s still a chance that we can find the last evidence on her body.”

Even He Zheng himself failed to notice that in this instant he was so calm, showing no alarm or anxiety whatsoever that he would have shown had it been in the past.

Sergeant Luo walked into the ward to ask about the missing pages of the diary. After that, he would have to call the principal and Mrs. Xu, both of whom were related to this case, to the police station for interrogation.

He Zheng and the other two decided to go to the police station first to ascertain the truth about this matter.

When the three of them walked out of the hospital, it was almost six o’clock in the afternoon. After being on the run with them for such a long time, Qin Huai, who was a childe that had grown up in a rich family just like He Zheng was, had never been so tired before. Feeling unbearably exhausted, he yelled, “This thirst is killing me. Can I have a minute to buy some water and bread?”

In fact, if Qin Huai had not said this, He Zheng, who was also drained of energy, would make the same remarks. Seeing the fatigue on their faces, Zu Zhichong nodded. “Okay. Let’s go to a supermarket first.”

In order to lift their spirits, Zu Zhichong deliberately changed the topic. “Cutie, this outfit belongs to Chief, doesn’t it? Why are you wearing Chief’s clothes?”

It was after hearing this that He Zheng remembered he had told Li Zong to go back home earlier when he had left the Supernaturalism Management Bureau (SMB). He fished out his cellphone and saw that it was almost six o’clock. He Zheng, who couldn’t be bothered to make a reply to Zu Zhichong’s frivolous question, walked aside and made a phone call to Li Zong.

After a few rings, the call was answered.

“Mrs. Li, I’m already home. Where’s the pleasant surprise you promised me, uh?”

Li Zong’s voice was oddly pleasant to the ear. After hearing the rising tone of the last word, He Zheng could even feel his breathing deepen somewhat. He wondered how come Li Zong was so bewitching. After giving a cough, he replied, “I’m at the gateway of a hospital.”

“A hospital?” Li Zong slightly paused. “Why did you go to a hospital? You got hurt?”

“No.” He Zheng gave Li Zong a sketchy account of what had happened and then added, “My involvement in this matter has already reached such a degree. Don’t you tell me to pull out!”

On the other end of the phone, Li Zong indeed had never expected that this flat-chested little guy would be so meddlesome; in the morning he had nearly been struck by lightning, and now he had boldly involved himself in yet another tricky matter. After a few moments’ silence, Li Zong said, “Send me the address of the police station that you’re heading for. I’ll be there soon.”

Unaware that this matter was also a punitive task assigned to Zu Zhichong by Li Zong, He Zheng told him the address and then hung up.

It didn’t occur to him that after Li Zong came, the process of handling this matter would be as thrilling as playing a video game in God Mode.
