144. BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! (2)

Li Zong’s face was calm, but his hands hanging by his sides had been clenched into fists. The time for him to make his move hadn’t come yet… He must control himself.

The back of He Zheng’s clothes was already wet with cold sweat. Tianyi pulled himself up once again. When the Rubbermen approached He Zheng, he dived up, his whole body shaking violently.

He Zheng’s breathing was growing heavier, but his stomach felt as though it had dissolved. Nobody wanted to become these creature’s meal. Now he could only risk it.

Screw it!

The Shadow Sword in his hand seemed to have become a thousand times heavier, a row of teeth marks on his lower lip, a strong taste of blood in his mouth.

Zu Zhichong had once told him that Fu-craft was actually an exorcist’s communication with the welkin and the earth.

The Quintuple Lightning Enchantment, as the most powerful lightning spell, obviously entailed the most violent transference of electricity.

Tianyi was downed once again. This time, he spat out yet another mouthful of blood and then lay there motionless.

Teeth gritted tightly, He Zheng raised the other hand and gripped the hilt of the sword.

With two raging flames in his eyes, he cast a second Advanced Lightning Fu!

“…Ghosts and demons recoil, monsters and bogeys cower. Lend me your power. Bring evil to its end!”

As He Zheng let out a roar swinging the Shadow Sword downwards, a sheet of sword-light swept forward and with that He Zheng lunged at a Rubberman who was going to deal Tianyi a blow. Caught off guard by He Zheng’s sudden move, one-armed Kang Ba was rendered armless by a savage sword strike.

After incanting the spell once again and finishing his communication with the welkin and the earth for a second time, the energy inside him doubled overloading his body. He Zheng, exhausted, spat out a mouthful of blood as well.

If it weren’t for the Shadow Sword supporting him, he would definitely have sunk to the ground!

At this time, not only did Tan Lubai seem worried, Zhao Yidi’s face was growing grave as well.

“He incanted the enchantment twice to conjure up lightning. Does this brat have any common sense at all?! No. We have to intervene. He’ll die if we don’t!”

“Wait,” said Li Zong in a deep voice, stopping Zhao Yidi. “Give him some more time. He can do this.”

As if on cue, they saw that inside the ball of light, He Zheng raised his lowered head, a golden gleam in his left eye.

“The Phoenix Plume!” Tan Lubai exclaimed in astonishment, abruptly swiveled her head around to look at Li Zong, and then breathed, “No wonder you got hurt during your last trip to the demon seal. It turns out that this was the reason.”

Li Zong made no reply.

What he’d given He Zheng previously was not a small portion of his primordial spirit, but the Phoenix Plume, his lifesaving magic treasure.

This was a secret known to nobody else.

Since Zhao Yidi was present, Tan Lubai said no more, but her heart rate gradually returned to normal as well. With the help of the Phoenix Plume, there was no way He Zheng could die in there.

Fully relaxed, Tan Lubai resumed keeping watch on the examinees via the balls of light.

“He Zheng.” Tianyi’s voice was very weak, but He Zheng’s ashen face was manifestly suggesting that he was even feebler. “Are we really going to become their lunch?”

“Shh–” He Zheng spat out yet another mouthful of blood, his fingers dusty, but he still pretentiously held up his forefinger to his lips gesturing Tian Yi to hush. “Listen,” he said.

Dull thunder came from the sky. Outside the classroom, Wei Cheng and Lin Zhuo running for their lives raised their heads to look into the sky at the same time. Huge black clouds were floating over one after another.

“H–He Zheng did it?” Lin Zhuo stammered with nervousness, but his eyes were glinting rapturously.

“I think so.” Wei Cheng deflected another blow of a falcon. He was far more collected than Lin Zhuo. “Let’s get these big birds back into the classroom!”

“Okay!” Lin Zhuo, without more ado, blew the falcon whistle once again.

Propped against the Shadow Sword, He Zheng rose to his feet and then pointed the sword to the sky with all his might. Kang Ba who had just been wounded by He Zheng went furious, charging at He Zheng with Tao Wujiu the other Rubberman.

As the first thunderbolt split the sky shooting towards the Shadow Sword, He Zheng gave a casual swing of the sword and with that the lightning violently struck the two Rubbermen causing a horrifyingly deep burnt wound in each of them. However, having been thunderstruck multiple times during the previous fight, they couldn’t feel any pain at all, still rushing towards He Zheng. A second thunderbolt soon hit them, and the two Rubbermen paused.

It was now or never!

Bawling, He Zheng heavily gave a lateral slash with the Shadow Sword.

With that, three flashes of lightning struck down, followed by another five. Everybody was forced into closing their eyes by the glare of the chained thunderbolt. He Zheng stood there for a minute keeping his posture which he thought must be really cool, but what with his unduly short distance from the two Rubbermen, he nearly became a victim of friendly fire. Seeing the sheet lightning moving closer, Tianyi who had been feebly lying on the ground leapt to his feet and the two of them fled helter-skelter to concentrated claps of thunder. It was just thrilling.

Summoning up all the strength they’d got left, He Zheng and Tianyi jumped out of the classroom through a window. Tianyi, who was a little slow due to his serious injuries, got his hips scalded by sparks. Fire is what a fish fears the most. Tianyi let out an anguished scream and moved quicker.

Right at this moment, numerous falcons instructed by the whistle flew into the classroom which was filled with glaring lightning. He Zheng and the others smelled roasting meat…

The thunderbolt lasted yet another full minute. He Zheng, utterly drained of energy, could no longer keep himself on his feet, giddy and dazzled. He was just about to fall when he was naturally swept into a familiar embrace.

He Zheng licked his lip which was bleeding from his bites and asked Li Zong only one question.

“Those rubber monsters in there, have they been turned into popcorn?”

“More like fireworks.”

He Zheng gave a laugh but soon broke off, his head tilted to one side, unconscious.
