69. An Imminent Upheaval (1)

In the Coastal City.

The shadow-demon quietly slid his way into a room but was afraid to get too close. Due to an innate sense of obedience, he didn’t even dare to raise his head.

“Master, I failed.”

“You have a shadow but no brains. Will anybody find your failure surprising?” Unlike the voice of the man in a black robe, voice of this person was heavy with sarcasm and contempt.

The shadow-demon abruptly raised his head. He noticed that there was a young man present in the room. The man’s features were exquisite, as if he were a model in a painting who had come to life. If anybody else were here to lay eyes on him, they would definitely recognize him, for he was currently the most famous and most eligible bachelor, the youngest son of the patriarch of Zhou family, which was a well-renowned real estate family in the Coastal City.

The shadow-demon was instantly on the alert and stared at the man in front of him. As if not having noticed his gaze, the man, who was languidly leaning against the wall with his arms folded across his chest, seemed much more relaxed than the groveling shadow-demon. “Master, I really don’t understand why you let such a useless shadow-demon work for you.”

His arrogant attitude didn’t seem to bother the man in a black robe at all, and his voice still sounded calm and collected. “Just do you own job.”

The man gave a chuckle, his lips slightly curving up in a rather delicate way. “But Master, I’d already sensed the existence of the Demonic Seed before he did.

Though that sensation was brief and extremely faint, maybe I’ll find the Demonic Seed and bring it to you before this good-for-nothing shadow could.

Let’s find out whether it will be this wimp or me who will be the first one to find the Demonic Seed for you.”

After saying this, the man turned into a waft of black gas and disappeared.

The shadow-demon, who had been transfixed by the daunting aura of that man all along, finally was relieved, gasping for air. He huddled himself up on the floor, exhaling constantly. However, feeling unconvinced, the shadow-demon couldn’t help but ask in a quivering voice, “Ma–Master, that man is…”

Face of the man in a black robe had been deep in shadow all along. Although there was no response, the shadow-demon felt the anger of his master, which was horrifying. The poor shadow-demon, who had just been through terrible fright, started trembling violently once again.

“The foods you brought me a couple of days ago were very good.”

“I’m glad you liked them, Master. I’ll continue serving you with all my heart.”

“You may stay out of the rest of this matter. Since the Supernaturalism Management Bureau (SMB) have already intervened, we should make some trouble for them to keep them busy so that they won’t have their eye on us all the time…”

“Master, I found a location where there’s some residual dragon Qi, which I believe will be of great help to you.”

“Very good. Well done.” There was a hint of delight in the man’s voice.

The shadow-demon took his leave in satisfaction. Outside the room, he transformed back into a common white-collar worker in neat suit and shiny leather shoes. Gently, he gave his gold-rimmed spectacles on his nose bridge an upward push.

“Unlike your true self, this shell of yours looks pretty good.” A familiar voice was heard. It was the man who had been in the room a while ago!

The shadow-demon tried hard to slow down his palpitating heart. As a demon, he had a natural inclination to grovel to demons of higher ranks. It was instinctive. Therefore, when he saw the man, he uncontrollably hung his head. The shadow-demon clenched his teeth and eyed the young man before him with alarm. “You are also a Demon’s Attendant.”

“Of course.” The handsome man gave an eerie smile and hostilely stared at the shadow-demon, eyes full of scorn. “We are the only ones worthy of standing beside master, and we’re also the only ones capable of helping master regain his strength.”

“You, are merely a useless shadow.” He closed in on the shadow-demon. “If I were you, I wouldn’t be so stupid as to stay with master bringing him more bother.”

After saying this, the man vanished into thin air, leaving the shadow-demon standing alone in the empty corridor with an unresigned face. On his sides, his fists clenched slowly until his knuckles were white; the corners of his mouth curved up forming into a weird arc.

‘No, only I deserve to serve master.

And I’ll prove it by outshining all of you.’

In the Sui City.

Before going downhill, He Zheng took his P.S.P and various other electronic devices out of his backpack, left them in his room and then bagged up the cinnabar, Fu and the handbook given to him by Xuanqing. Holding the handbook, He Zheng felt that there were not many contents in it, but all of them were very useful. After thinking for a while, He Zheng changed into a pair of pants with many big pockets and then put the handbook into one of them so that he could feel it at all times.

Eventually, he stuffed Li Zong’s Thermos bottle into the backpack and then departed with Zu Zhichong.

The path they took to go downhill was the same one they took to go uphill that day, which meant that they had to descend the same number of steps. This was quite a vexation for He Zheng. Fortunately, going downhill was far easier than going uphill. The two of them raced each other all the way down along the long flight of steps. When they began to feel dizzy, they finally arrived at the foot of the mountain.

There was a parking lot at the foot of the mountain. Zu Zhichong fished a car key out of his pocket, raised it and shook it at He Zheng. He Zheng flicked a glance at the car and saw that it was a Benz.

“By the way, master shifu called it the Divine Eye but you said it was the Yin Yang Eye (In Chinese philosophy and medicine, yin and yang are the two opposing principles in nature, the former feminine and negative, the latter masculine and positive). Why?”

Zu Zhichong gave a backward glance at He Zheng and lightly touched He Zheng’s eyelid with his index finger.

“Both ‘the Yin Yang Eye’ and ‘the Divine Eye’ are just names. Calling it the Divine Eye is somewhat disrespectful for the divine law, which is why we usually call it the Yin Yang Eye.”

He Zheng, who had never thought of this, nodded. Then he tiredly stooped down, propped his upper body with his hands on his knees and panted for a few moments before pulling the car door open to sit into the front passenger seat. “Are you bringing me with you because Li Zong asked you to?”

Zu Zhichong skillfully started the car and replied, “No. I was afraid that my master shifu might rake over my embarrassing history. Isn’t it the safest to take you with me?”

He grinned from ear to ear at He Zheng, revealing his white teeth, which gave He Zheng an urge to kick his ass.
