After the reincarnation points were fully spent, the interface began to fade away. For him, death was not unexpected, however he could never anticipate that he would be reborn into a system which had the ability to expunge the innate will and d.e.s.i.r.e to survive. After all, he now had endless reincarnation opportunities that also allowed him to retain his memories. What was the point of enduring a miserable existence when you can re roll for a better fate?

Virtually every religion touted the glory and desirability of the afterlife. Claiming that it was far better than the world of the living with its divine scenery, spiritual fulfillment, and true inner peace. But that was clearly the prattle of ignorant mortals. Peace is often used as a euphemism for death and the glorification of the afterlife clearly was to both comfort those near death and coerce people into being "moral". He was neither that naive nor that concerned with the sacred though. He had been offered the opportunity to defy the very nature of existence itself and naturally he wouldn't reject. Who cared if it could be seen as blasphemous?

As expected, the destination had been a primitive world instead of a futuristic one or the preferred magical one. This prediction was why he had upgraded Strength. The majority of jobs before the technological era were manual labor and took a toll on a weak physique. Not only would the strength be handy for employment, but it would be extremely beneficial for self-defense. No matter how unskilled the fighter, if he can deal a heavy blow then there's an immediate advantage which could be exploited. He then slightly regretted that he did not learn martial arts. At least, he wasn't a stranger to life-threatening situations though.

As for why he bought the Automatic Dental Hygiene, it was purely for convenience. Using 1000 points just for convenience might seem like squandering but he saw it from another perspective. It was an intriguing ability which few would ever expect to exist that had an effect which others would consider to be so insignificant that many would scoff at the confessing if they revealed this ability. Atlas thought of this differently though. Through the ability's description, he had ascertained that it was unnecessary to brush his teeth, floss, or even rinse with water. The ability would keep all his teeth in pristine and perfect condition without fail and did not need even require his supervision. Primeval toothbrushes were not only ineffective but also would likely cause infections, and along with a crappy toothpaste substitute, thoroughly ravage his mouth. One thing he could never stand was the feeling when he woke up and realized that he had been subconsciously grinding his teeth in his sleep. If he resorted to these ancient methods, he'd probably have the sensation of his teeth being buzz sawed.

He thought that it was quite convenient that the very first destination was a farming village. After all, he had just purchased a farming ability. Wait... Could the system have adjusted the circ.u.mstances according to his abilities?

Finally opening the eyes which weren't his, the sting of the sunlight seeping through the shabbily thatched roof made him close them again. How could that even be considered a roof, he thought scornfully. He then got up from the dirty ground and grimaced. He felt somewhat violated with his current surroundings. What he had been sleeping on was not a mattress or even a straw mat but the dirty floor with a mound of dirt as his pillow. Immediately, he patted himself down and huge dust clouds formed due to the negligent hygiene.

The shed he resided in was beyond primitive and of such dismal quality that it even paled in comparison when compared to the dwellings of the other peasants. It also reeked of a foul odor that resembled an outhouse and he could guarantee that the conditions in abandoned houses were better. The final problem was the rough clothing he wore which could embarrass rags if they competed in trashiness.

He then left the hut, shed, or crap shack to retrieve water from the nearby well. The body was malnourished but Strength C+ was a counterbalance that allowed him to maintain a strength greater than the average man even while emaciated. He then carried the large bucket of water effortlessly with one hand and turned to leave. Before he was able to, another peasant up to him with a sneer on his face.

"Well, well, well. Look who it is Everybody! It's the toad that wanted to eat swan meat", he jeered enthusiastically. The peasant then froze when Atlas stared at him indifferently. Unconsciously emitting a daunting aura, Atlas then left before the peasant recovered from his stupor.

Now properly cleaned, he finally removed the garbage he had been wearing and wore the Simple Apparel given by the System. The large bucket of water was now covered in a murky filth that could make even a panhandler gag. Despite still being incredibly disgusted, he decided to finally assess the situation.

"System, provide me a synopsis"

An interface flickered into existence abruptly. Usually, systems in these types of stories would deliberately make life difficult for the host through an obnoxious objective, pesky prerequisites, cheating the host out of their rewards, and a snarky attitude. However, this one was clearly different. It was a subservient vessel with immense power but no intent to use it for its own gain. This delighted Atlas greatly as a system without a temperament would literally be a divine command prompt at his disposal.

What Atlas didn't know was that the temperament of a System indicated its quality. Systems which mocked the Host were of the lowest quality and due to humans being flawed creatures, Systems with defects were more endearing to them.
