A System That Beats Death

Chapter 37 - Masked Vigilante

To the Sect's dismay, both Guren and Tianli had left to go on journeys. The Sect Members which had previously scorned Guren were now eager for his tutelage but it was not even an option now that he had left. If he had stayed, they would have tried to express their sincerity and hope for forgiveness. After all, they thought it was fine to be shameless as dignity could not compare to the guidance of a legend. The Sect was confused as to why Tianli and Guren left at the same time but understood when Yidong revealed to them that Tianli became Guren's disciple.

The entire sect then grieved because of the fact that all of the figureheads were out of commission. The Sword Saint was resting along with Zhuye and Hexiu. Guren and Tianli left to Sword God knows where and the Sword Saintess had not completed her mission. All of the Blademasters in charge had stiff smiles.

Previously Tianli was known as the best Sword Sage and even after the tournament, he remained the best Sword Sage. Why? It was because they stopped categorizing Guren with the other Sword Sages. A being that could defeat the Sword Saint should not be considered beneath anyone. He was likely a reincarnation of the Sword God and was truly peerless.

A week later, Zhuye and Hexiu finally woke up. Longzhan was already able to return to his post but decided to opt for a longer recovery period.

No longer possessed by Spirits, they also lost memory of what occurred prior and were incredibly confused.

"Ugh, did I drink too much?", Hexiu g.r.o.a.n.e.d while thinking he had a hangover.

"F.u.c.k your hangover, I think I just had a heart attack", Zhuye complained while clutching his c.h.e.s.t and perspiring.

"They woke up!", a female Swordwielder exclaimed.

A few moments later, many Blademasters with dark circles under their eyes rushed in. Zhuye and Hexiu who were feeling awful then started to feel even worse with all the people crowding around them.

"!!! This is the infirmary! I knew I had a heart attack", Zhuye shouted to Hexiu.

"Then why am I here? I only have a hangover", Hexiu said.

"Clearly, you are getting too old for booze", Zhuye said.

The Blademasters then stopped their clamoring before sighing in unison. They were not the best candidates to manage a Sect and had hoped Hexiu and Zhuye could take over. However, it seemed that the two were even more mentally unstable compared to them.

One of the Blademasters that had been less stressed then piped up, "You are not here because of an illness. You were both defeated by Guren"

Both Zhuye and Hexiu then stopped bickering and turned to the Blademaster and simultaneously thought, ????

Another Blademaster then whispered to the rest, "I told you it is better to let them rest. They were beaten so badly that they lost their memory of the fight"

"Ughh, I am already started to hallucinate though", a Blademaster complained.

When the two Sword Sages left, they went to different destinations. Guren had tasked Tianli to investigate the insignia left by the two intruders but not before imparting some knowledge and a weapon to better his physique. Meanwhile, he would go hone his skills through battles. He would have asked the others to help instead of Tianli as he kind of wanted to go sightseeing but his other Followers were too busy reforming their realm that had been defiled by the Diabolic One and were not that familiar with this world.

"Men, that grab that nice-looking bitch and take her back to the den!"

The bandits then surrounded her on all sides.

"You would have been fine if you paid protection fees", a bandit then said.

"Don't bullshit me. I have paid 2 years in advance", the female complained. She was furious as she knew that they should never have trusted bandits to keep their word. However, her husband just had to insist. Now, look where he ended up. Dead and fed to dogs. She then scowled as her demise might be even less dignified.

"Those were the fees for the previous leader. The new leader also has new prices", one of the lackeys exclaimed before letting the bandit leader through. The leader then got off the horse and went forward. The bandit leader was rugged-looking but not in a good way, it only matched his circ.u.mstances. He then lifted her chin and inspected her in a licentious manner. The female gritted her teeth. She was indignant but did not dare to retaliate. They could easily overpower her and she had not discovered any opportunities for her to escape.

She then thought that she was lucky to not be a mother as the child would have likely been killed by the bandits.

"She will be good compensation. Count her as the protection fee"

While a few of the lackeys started to carry her and cop a feel, the bandit leader turned around. He then saw somebody else occupying his horse.

Immediately he was angered as he did not expect that somebody would dare occupy his horse. Occupying the leader's horse had two implications, the bandit leader was not worthy and the person wanted to be in charge.

"Which asshole dares to take my horse!?", the bandit leader shouted.

Hearing this, the female thought that she could take advantage of the situation and caused the bandit who had been groping her, faint.

The enigmatic figure then leapt off of the horse and stepped in front of the bandit leader. In a monotone voice, he said, "You are the famous bandit warlord?"

The bandit leader then thought, No wonder he dares take the horse. He has outdated news and does not even know who I am.

"I'm not. I'm the one who killed him", the bandit leader then said in a domineering tone as if the statement would shock and scare the masked person.

"Oh. So you should be stronger then", the person responded in a monotone voice once more.

"Now that you know who I am! Kneel!", the bandit leader shouted as he reveled once more in his achievement. The fight between him and the previous leader was intense. However, he had gained the edge at the very last moment. He was incredibly proud of this accomplishment and believed that others should exalt it as well.

"Oh? Why should I kneel?", Guren asked in amus.e.m.e.nt.

"Because I am the strongest, of course!", the bandit leader boasted before readying his weapon to beat some sense into the stranger.

"But you can't even see a slash that even a Swordwielder could sense", Guren said in a disappointed tone.

Swordwielder? Does this man even know what a Swordwielder is? The bandit leader thought before deciding that the person in front of him had no common sense at all and that he should stop listening to his nonsense.

He then took one step forward and was about to take another but stopped as he heard the cries of his subordinates.

He then looked back to see all of his lackeys covered in blood. The female about to escape was just as shocked as he was. The two then looked back at Guren who sighed and then ended the bandit leader.

Guren was about to ask the female a few questions but then stopped. He abruptly turned towards the forest and glared menacingly. Hegemony also activated and his aura changed from calm to bone-chilling.
