Chapter 51: The Yummy Bear Paw

Translator: LiamHW

Without any further persuasion, Song Qinghan didn’t utter anything because he knew how strong and tough Qin Aye was. If this old man refused at the very beginning, nothing could change his mind to take others’ assistance for his long-term predicament.

So this time Song Qinghan had to make it, make it succeed to cure Qin Aye!

Just at the moment he was pondering upon the object he could use to replace the plaster, Wu Dahu walked in all of a sudden with bunch of planks in hands.

Taking a glance at his man, Song Qinghan showed a look of confusion, asking puzzlingly, “What are they used for?”

Wu Dahu assembled the planks in a somehow complex way, explaining, “Didn’t you say that you want to fix Qin Aye’s leg? Although you didn’t mention waht kind of planks you want, I think this will still work since they are in the same method.”

Taking a sudden jerk, Song Qinghan took a pause, but with a glance at the planks, he got something in his mind.

How could he not be able to conceive something like that? Well, he might put too much attention and rely on some certain modern methods. That failed him to think of an ancient way to apply. In fact, he did try to use some planks to fix legs when he was in his college time, but time would make him an amnesiac one.

Noticing that Song Qinghan didn’t say anything in retort, Wu Dahu took the initiative to take the liquor and commenced disinfecting the planks himself, gesturing on Qin Aye’s leg, and then he turned to Song Qinghan, asking, “Am I right? To fix it directly?”

Getting back composure, Song Qinghan took the gauze over and wrap them on Qin Aye’s injured leg for around several circles, ensuring that this pitiful old man wouldn’t be pressed and get pain, and saying, “Now, fix it. Fix only one crucial section of it.”

Nodding, Wu Dahu put all the planks one by one cooperating with Song Qinghan, and fixing them slowly.

It seemed that Wu Dahu got the treatment smoother than Song Qinghan did in his previous time. He didn’t even take much action on dealing with the outer side of those planks, but he could fix them all applying to suit the leg of Qin Aye.

Without any feelings of discomfort or pain, Qin Aye seemed to stay quite calm in this process. Being given the feedback from him, Song Qinghan came to explain again, saying, “It will fall to us for the meal stuff, please stay in bed as long as possible.”

Nodding reluctantly, Qin Aye finally delivered them a smile, saying, “Alright, alright. I will just trouble you two again, I really appreciate that. Go home now, it’s getting late.”

The young couple nodded at the same time as if they had negotiated in advance, and then packed everything up preparing to leave.

At the moment they were about to step out of the yard, Qin Aye shouted all of a sudden, saying, “If you guys get time, please go and visit that kid, Youning I mean… But… never mind, don’t go there. I am not sure what he will gush to you again. You know, he got a tough mind and is such a guy in denial.”

With a slight smile on face, Song Qinghan answered, “Take it easy, alright? Aye. We did plan to go visit Youning. I think if the misunderstanding between you and him is unable to be untied, there will always be such a depression for him. That is not good for his growth.”

This time Qin Aye didn’t refuse at all, he just came to a heavy sigh, looking at the couple in front of him, and saying in gratification, “You guys are such of kindness. You should know the fact that despite you’re suffering bitterness now, there will be bunch of good lucks and fortunes waiting for you.”

Smiling at each other knowingly, Song Qinghan and Wu Dahu didn’t linger but just left the house at once.

On the way back, they just went through Youning’s family. And at that time they saw the young man stood there kicking off the gravels right in front of the house seeming to lose his temper there, and venting his anger over these lifeless stuff.

Catching a glance of someone who was approaching, Youning raised his head. But at the moment he noticed that it was Song Qinghan and Wu Dahu who stood there right away, he frowned and snorted.

Without a word, Wu Dahu just stayed aside witnessing Song Qinghan and Youning communicate there. It seemed to be a wide consensus that femina male in this kind of ancient time was always the one with a more profound communicative skill. They got such a smooth communication so far though.

Song Qinghan then smiled, walking over in a slow pace and staring at Youning on his face, saying, “Do you know why Qin Aye suffered so long time with his injured leg, and that he did not recover at all but worse?”

At the first consideration, Youning would think that the couple was here for a dispensable persuasion, and he would totally reject any form of gibberish. But out of his expectation, Song Qinghan did make a good start of this conversation. He didn’t even know how he could answer in a flash.

It seemed that Song Qinghan didn’t even expect an answer at all as well, he continued to explain, answering, “That is because there are several gravels in his injured leg and never consider to clean them out and he just covered the herbal medicine on it without cleaning. That will accelerate the festering of the wound.”

With a face of astonishment, Youning bit on his lips, saying in a recalcitrant tone, “How come? It can’t be! I clean them all together with Qin Aye that day. Or do you mean that you’ve got a super eyes which can rival with four eyes of ours?”

Taking out a pile of gauze of the basket, Song Qinghan seemed to guess out what Youning would say, and then he shifted the gauze exposing the things inside, and saying with a smile, “See? These are what I took out from Aye’s leg. Did you see some flesh filament on them? If you still doubt that, go and ask Aye yourself.”

Wu Dahu stared at Song Qinghan thoughtfully. Well, that explained why Song Qinghan picked up the discarded gauze on the ground, thought Wu Dahu.

Looking at the tiny gravels on the gauze, Youning got his face a sullen one.

He didn’t feel sick over it, but he was just with a strong self-esteem and wouldn’t accept any retort. Since his judgement was proved to be wrong, he was suffering in such a torment and awkwardness standing there.

Putting away the gauze, Song Qinghan tried to avoid such a topic, saying, “You know what? Qin Aye lives by his own, and no one would really love to help him out. Like, nobody would really care if he had food to eat, enough clothes to get on and a good mood or not. You probably are the first one who care about him, and the last one as well. So you should know that how important you are in his mind.”

“But he did shout at me and lecture me for you two. And he kicked me out!” said Youning, as this young boy pouted his lips.

Song Qinghan unfolded his hands, saying, “We do wish he will lecture us too. But he will never do that to us. Do you know why?”

Youning wiped his eyes, asking with a bad attitude, “Why? Because you guys get money?”

With a burst of laughter, Song Qinghan felt the words of Youning were somehow amusing, he then lowered down his head and stared at his clothes, saying, “So how can you just judge that we are rich though? How about this, why not view it from another angle. Why would you care so much about Qin Aye? And you will protect him to accuse us?”

Taking a sudden pause, Youning answered in reluctance, saying, “Well, he is such a pitiful old man, I sympathize with him, and he treated me quite good when I was still a toddler.”

Song Qinghan came to explain with patience, saying, “That is not about sympathy or something, that is care of kindness. If you don’t even care for Qin Aye, you will never be willing to take good care of him in the case that you probably will get a strict domestic education at home. On the other hand, if Qin Aye doesn’t care about you, he won’t stop you yelling at others and being ridiculous in the case that he won’t be taken care of by others.”

“AND, me and Dahu don’t get such a firm relationship with Qin Aye. Of course he will just be more indifferent to us. So he will never ever lecture us for anything, even he has to, he won’t say something hurtful but easier to accept. So, do you think it make sense?”

With such an excuse,Youning couldn’t say something in retort at all, but lowered his face with awkwardness, saying, “… Yes.”

Seeing that he had softened his attitude, Song Qinghan smiled, patted the young man on the shoulder and said softly, “Don’t argue with Qin Aye for nothing. Have you ever thought about how many days you can meet him? For the rest of his senior life? If you still nurse some grievance in your mind, just take it with us. And one more important thing you should know, Qin Aye is not allowed to get off from his bed within three days. So if you’re free, go and visit him. We live so far away from his house, so we decided to visit him in meal time.”

“What happened to him? Did his injured leg fester?” asked Youning, as he got nervous from Song Qinghan’s words.

Song Qinghan could read out the nervousness of this young man, so he came to console, saying, “Take it easy. It’s a treatment for him, so these three days are the crucial days, if Aye can’t get a better recovery from it. We have to get Doctor Luo here.”

Probably the utterance of Song Qinghan worked for this young man. Although Youning still had no faith in Song Qinghan’s medical treatment, he just pouted there without saying a single word.

Night fell, Song Qinghan and Wu Dahu decided not to stay long, they bid farewell to Youning and then left for home.

With a glimmer of moonlight, Wu Dahu peeled the whole bearskin off in one breath, and threw all the guts of the bear in the mountain.

After Song Qinghan finished cooking, he placed his bear paw on the fire. He then teared off the outermost fur of it exposing the soften meat out from the bear paw.

The pleasant odor overflowed and Song Qinghan was spreading the seasoning on the meat while pondering in his mind: It would be better if I got cumin and black pepper here. Any barbecue is just perfect with these two divine seasonings.

The thought was just like a virus occupying him in his brain. And then he got crazy thinking over it.

Well, if something like star anise, onion and ginger could be found here in this ancient time. Then cumin and black pepper should be too! They were just having not been found yet.

“It’s getting burned.” shouted Wu Dahu.

And then he reached out his hands to grab the ones from Song Qinghan, helping him turn over the bear paw in other side.

Regaining attention, Song Qinghan found Wu Dahu almost hugged him to his stalwart chest. Song Qinghan couldn’t help but get himself a blushed face.

Yet, Wu Dahu didn’t notice any strange look of his husband. Witnessing that the bear paw was almost finished, he got up and went to took two bowls.

After Wu Dahu left, Song Qinghan sat there with such a regret, as if he lost a chance to grab a more intimate touch with Wu Dahu. But then the roasted bear paw appealed his attention again, he came to an exclamation, saying, “I would never ever think of taking a bit on a bear paw, but now I make it!”

Wu Dahu came back with a great smile, shaking his head and saying, “Haha, since bear paw is kind of precious, but it can never be called as rare stuff. Even if I did not kill this bear, we make it a daily dish if one day we got rich.”

Smiling big, Song Qinghan didn’t explain further about what he said.

If he was still in the modern time and dared to take a bit on bear meat, somebody might knock on the door of his. Well, that means it is totally illegal to hunt a bear, let alone to taste its meat.

Song Qinghan didn’t rush to eat the meat, but he used the meat to stew a soup, and then asked Wu Dahu to deliver the soup to Qin Aye.

This wasn’t because that Song Qinghan was stingy. But he knew exactly that the meat would fester the inflammation. In such a case, since Qin Aye had just got himself done with an operation, he was not allowed to intake any of that. And if Wu Dahu wasn’t out of the woods, Song Qinghan would also ban him from taking the meat.

Not long, Wu Dahu came back with an empty pot in hands, saying with a smile, “Youning is there too. So I didn’t stay long there.”

Smiling, Song Qinghan didn’t expect that the young boy would let off steam so soon. Probably he was such a guy just as Qin Aye described: Bark is worse than bite.
