Chapter 85: The Tiny Shop

Translator: LiamHW

“Master!” I’m back! ”

A tender and immature sound rang just as these two annoying old men were wrangling there right at the gate. It was Yuan Wenxuan who sprinted into the yard like a little sparrow.

This young boy was all exultation with a bright smile on his face, but an expression of confusion emerged as he passed those two old men. It seemed that it was hard for him to understand the odd action of them.

However, probably he was too excited back that he didn’t even pay much attention to the other matters, he just raised his face to Song Qinghan, saying, “Master, I’ve learnt a lot today. I discover that something new and interesting can be found if I combine the knowledge of the acupuncture points and structure of human body.”

After that, he took out an Acupuncture Map and grabbed it in hand open, explaining while pointing at one certain spot on the map, “Like here, it is described on the map that this such an acupuncture point which can cause a man a comma. That’s because this point connects two crucial main arteries. And once someone is hit on such a acupuncture point, the circulation of the blood around will be blocked at once, causing the insufficiency of the blood supply to his brain. That’s how it causes the comma. Is that right, Master?”

Staring at the eyes of Yuan Wenxuan which were blinking slowly and wide open, Song Qinghan was shocked.

It wouldn’t be an overstated compliment to say that such a boy was a total prodigy since he was capable of acquiring such a profound knowledge of Western medicine in a rather short time, and in the meanwhile, he was able to combine the basic principle of Chinese medicine and Western medicine while analyzing everything by his own amazingly.

Song Qinghan then caressed Yuan Wenxuan on the head, saying decisively, “Right! You’re right! Well done! You have to keep this passion for studying, okay?”

Yuan Wenxuan didn’t immerse in the compliments of Song Qinghan, but felt a bit humbly shy, he then touched his nose, lowering his head and saying, “Master, I will. I’m just acting so childish. I will check out Little Shitou right now.”

What he had found about the acupuncture point must be nothing for his Master. Instead, he just showed all his excitement as if he had just found some treasure. That’s much childish reaction. Well, at least he should learn to be more steady-typed.

Song Qinghan looked Yuan Wenxuan who was now standing straight-backed, he smiled big, satisfied. But if he found out what Yuan Wenxuan thought right now, probably he would feel quite wry in mind.

If he showed more calmness, probably his Master would be much crazy.

Old Zhu stopped arguing with Old Man Gao as he eavesdropped the conversation between Song Qinghan and Yuan Wenxuan, and then he turned his face to Song Qinghan, asking, “Are you a doctor?”

Song Qinghan showed more willingness to talk to Old Zhu who was more straightforward compared to that “Bully-the-Weak and Flatter-the-Noble” Typed Old Man Gao. He responded in pleasure but didn’t intend to describe it in an absolute way, saying, “Well, not that kind of wholly devoted one but half.”

“Don’t you lie to me, I just saw the words ‘Huichun Shop’ marked on the Acupuncture Map the child grabbed! But judge from your way of talking, you might not be the member of Huichun Shop. That means that you’re the doctor who is able to let Huichun Shop break its rule to enroll your apprentice. You’re probably not a full doctor, but one and a half.” sneered Old Zhu, laughing.

Noticing that such an old man was quite good at analyzing through tiny details, Song Qinghan was shocked, he smiled standing there but kept his silence.

Old Man Gao was dumbfounded when he saw Old Zhu commenced pulling strings with Wu Dahu’s family members, he rolled his eyes while nursing a grievance in his mind. Old Zhu was such a CUNNING FOX though, thought Old Man Gao.

In that thought, he cleared his throat, shouting, “I do need a domestic doctor in my mansion, I will pay you once a month. And as for the salary, we can discuss about that. Would you like to think about that?”

“One of my family members got a strange disease, please, childe, would you please visit us if you have time?”

Seeing that Old Zhu was playing a show of “Monkey See, Monkey Do”, Old Man Gao glared at him fiercely, but he didn’t say anything at all. He just turned his face looking at Song Qinghan, as if he was waiting for Song Qinghan’s final decision.

Pondering for a brief moment, Song Qinghan made a bow with hands folded in front to Old Man Gao, saying sincerely, “It’s a great honor for me to receive the great kindness of you, Lord Gao. But I do have to take good care of my own family currently, so I’m afraid that I won’t be able to accept your suggestion being as a domestic doctor.”

After that, he avoided the direct eye contact with Old Man Gao while pretending that he hadn’t noticed the face of utter irritation of the old man, and then he turned his face to Old Zhu, saying, “I shouldn’t reject your invitation since you ask me to make a diagnosis, Lord Zhu. But you just mentioned that it is kind of a strange disease, basically, I haven’t got a profound knowledge about medicine yet, so I am afraid that it might be out of my capability to cure him alone. I would recommend you to get the doctors from Huichun Shop here. Maybe we can find the most suitable treatment with a group power.”

Of course, he should reject both of them since he said NO to Old Man Gao first. Although he was quite interested in the “Strange disease” Old Zhu just mentioned, he still should be rational. In addition, who could promise whether this old man was actually telling the truth or not? Probably he was also telling a lie just to frustrate Old Man Gao.

Old Man Gao released his tightening eyebrows after Song Qinghan rejected Old Zhu either. He raised his head trying to figure out the time, and then he waved his sleeves, saying, “You poor dying man, how can you be so cheeky staying here? Are you going to scrounge free meals off them.”

Annoyed, Old Zhu sighed in resignation since Old Man Gao kept harrasing. He then waved his hands to Song Qinghan and Wu Dahu, saying, “We’ll talk next time. You just moved here, Take a good rest.”

After the two of these old men left, Song Qinghan finally heave a sigh with relief and then stared at Wu Dahu and met the eyes of Wu Dahu. Both of them could read the great resignation from the other.

But, thanks to their positive attitude, they just let everything go and they didn’t even allow such a matter to bother them. And then he started preparing their dinner while discussing something about running their new shop.

Since Wu Dahu was about to take part in the Martial Club, if they wanted to run a shop, they should arrange the shop in the alley tomorrow and get everything well set. Otherwise, they couldn’t run their business in time after Wu Dahu went to the club.

After the two of them finished their dinner, they started handling the lemons lying at the corner in the sack, they sliced those lemons into pieces and then placed them all in the yard.

Early the next morning, when Wu Dahu got up, he found that Yuan Wenxuan had cooked breakfast. After a few casual bites, the young boy said goodbye and then left for Huichun Shop.

It turned out that he was late yesterday. In order not to leave a bad impression to the people in the shop, he decided to go there earlier every day in the future, so that he wouldn’t bother Wu Dahu and Song Qinghan.

When Song Qinghan got up and heard about this, he felt a lot more emotional and thought back to the ten years he had spent in his early school period.

Alright, since this child was willing to take the sufferings, just let him take it. He would surely be grateful in the future to himself.

After the two of them finished their meal, they cleaned up the shop in the alley again. They sorted everything which they made yesterday on the shelf, and carefully marked every single jar with label about the classification of it and the usage of it.

With every work done, Wu Dahu turned his head back, but he didn’t find Song Qinghan. H then walked out of the alley, being nervous.

Looking at Song Qinghan who was absorbing in doing something, Wu Dahu asked tentatively, “What are you doing here?”

Just as he approached, he found out there was a wooden board engraved with the words “An Eccentric Shop” (稀奇古怪屋) hanging right at the corner in the gate of the alley. He then laughed, indulgently.

Song Qinghan nailed the last pin and then raised his chest proudly, saying excitedly, “How is it? Am I doing a surprisingly great job?”

Sure enough, he was a man from the modern time. He did acquire a lot knowledge about social psychology, and some methods about how to capture the attention of the passersby by using some gaudy tricks. Though people here did make their own advertising board, they failed to make something stunningly eye-catching.

In order to make his own wooden board more attractive, he painted every word on the wooden board with different colors.

But there was no paint here. In order to gather five colors, he bought carrots, celery, black beans, iron-tail flowers and chrysanthemums. He spent a lot of effort to extract five colors out from those raw materials, namely red, green, black, blue and yellow. And then he imparted every single paint to each word (稀, 奇, 古, 怪, 屋) respectively. Finally, he succeeded making it.

With a careful observation on the big wooden board, Wu Dahu nodded indulgently, while complimenting, “You’re quite good at painting.”

Well, probably Song Qinghan was quite talented rather than good at painting something. He got the colors the freshest ones without stiffness. The finished board looked pretty good though even the colors were kind of exaggerated.

Song Qinghan pouted his lips and muttered, “Aha, my creativity should take the credit!”

Wu Dahu laughed again indulgently, saying, “Yes, first of all, you have to be creative to have such a marvelous board. And with that board, the downside of the shop can be neglected. People passing by aren’t able to ignore such a big board here. And in addition, you’ve got it an attractive name. Well, see… people there are coming over.”

Hearing that, Song Qinghan turned his head happily, when he noticed someone was really approaching, he greeted the customer with a big smile, saying, “Dearest guest, would you like to come in and check out?”

COME IN AND CHECK OUT? The man got himself blushed all of a sudden while being welcomed by a femina male with such a delicate appearance. His mind became wild and wicked. “Emm… So what have you got in here?”, he whispered, secretly.

Song Qinghan thought that customers should check out and have a look themselves because it would be hard to explain without a material object in hand. So he just urgently invited the man to his shop, “Come in and check out yourself. You’ll see what it is.”

The man couldn’t resist Song Qinghan’s enthusiasm and followed him into the alley. Just as he found out the “Goods” Song Qinghan really meant, which was a different thing in his imagination. He was kind of ashamed thinking that he was being tricked. And then he waved his sleeves angrily and left.

With a face of utter bewilderment, Song Qinghan looked at Wu Dahu.

After a moment of silence, Wu Dahu thought of nothing but the safety here for Song Qinghan being here alone, he just came to say, “Just stay in the shop and go nowhere if you’re going to run this business. Don’t act so passionately, they might think that you’re running another business.”

Penny dropped all of a sudden, Song Qinghan nodded vigorously, he thought of the fact that when he was in a trip in his modern time, he would definitely escape from the control of those annoying shopping guides. He would prefer those shops without any shopping guides instead. Well, that was what he got from Wu Dahu’s words.

More passersby were coming over while being attracted by the wooden board. But beyond Song Qinghan’s expectation, none of them except some youths who would love to try something new did the purchase in his shop.

As the day finally came to its end, Song Qinghan found they earned even less than they did previously when they only sold monk fruits.

Instead, it was Wu Dahu who figured out the principle of the visitors flowrate, he then spoke to Song Qinghan as he was about to shut the door, “I find that people here cram at noon. So you don’t have to come here that early. Just come here for several hours at noon, and stay at home the other period.”

This was the only way he could think of which allowed Song Qinghan to run a shop while avoiding any possible danger to him.

And in addition, he probably could make it to come out from the Martial Club and see Song Qinghan here.
