Chapter 99: Ruffians’ Harassment

Translator: LiamHW

Song Qinghan pondered for a moment, and then he asked the boy in return, “Have you ever heard something like ‘Fight fire with fire’?”

With a surprising stun, Yuan Wenxuan nodded subconsciously, took another glance at Xia Yunfei’s festered skins, and then he shouted, “Ah, I can get it right now!”

Although Song Qinghan was fully confident that the antigens, key element to cure the deadly disease, were right in Xia Yunfei’s festered skins, he still tried to make it an unclear conclusion, saying, “I’m just making a conjecture based on the situation. We should verify it by some actual operations.”

Both Doctor Shi and Yuan Wenxuan nodded almost at the same time.

On the other hand, Xia Yunfei was totally confused standing there, he got himself utterly bewildered since Song Qinghan just made it a vague tone. He was kind of discouraged right away.

Well, except him, the other members of his family failed to get rid of this nightmare. That was why he was so hurried. At least he was gathering all possible hope to cure his relatives, the earlier he could find a way, the more hopes he could gain for his family. Otherwise, it would be much meaningless for him to live alone in this world even he was immune to the disease.

Song Qinghan and Doctor Shi could definitely understand how the man felt right now. So they decided to speed up their pace, they didn’t dare to stop the carriage except they had to have something to eat or free their bladder. After two days of the trip, they finally arrived in the town nearby the Moshang Town.

According to the plan they had made before the trip, Xia Yunfei walked towards the Moshang Town alone as soon as he got off the carriage. He planned to take someone who just got infected not long for Song Qinghan and Doctor Shi to have an “experiment”.

In fact, he did want to take one of his family members out of the town in his first thought. But unfortunately, they had got ill for so long time, it would be impossible for them to disguise as a healthy person and sneak into this town. The other reason was that he had heard such an experiment should be kind of threatening, probably the patient would be killed out of the experiment by accident. In that thought, he preferred to pick the one who volunteered to come.

“Volunteered one, volunteered one!” were the words Song Qinghan accentuated again and again before Xia Yunfei set off. Though Xia Yunfei didn’t trust Song Qinghan that much, since Doctor Shi held Song Qinghan’s suggestions in high esteem, he had to obey.

It would took Xia Yunfei at least one more day to come back in this town, so the rest members just took a warm bath themselves and got rid of the exhaustion caused by trip, they went to sleep earlier in welcoming the upcoming “Combat” with the disease.

When they woke up and finished dinner, Xia Yunfei went back followed by skinny man in behind.

For a smooth experiment, they rent a tiny house in the remotest area, almost at the edge of the town.

In this way, even if something bad happened, it was still a controllable situation for them to suppress the outbreak of another tragedy.

Xia Yunfei brought the man into the room, “This is the youngest son of my neighbor family. He is Qing Feng.”, he explained, “And he is one of the latest cases with some related symptoms. I have already got his family informed that this might be their last chance to meet face to face. Well, they all showed no objection to it.”

Song Qinghan nodded and then he distributed simplified masks and gloves made by clothes to Yuan Wenxuan, Doctor Shi and Doctor Shi’s servant, and then he demonstrated to them about how to use them, and then lowered his voice, saying, “We should run against the time since it might take times for the patient to recover.”

Probably because he got such a modern experience, Song Qinghan looked extremely calm now as if he got a thought-out plan to cope with whatever might arise.

However, Doctor Shi was totally opposite. He just stood there not knowing how he should act. He knew nothing about the next steps and what he should do in the following operation. Although he got no idea right now, he couldn’t get cold feet since Song Qinghan was so active, but just followed him in behind and decided to obey Song Qinghan’s arrangement.

The house wasn’t big, but it seemed that the room was a bit crowded as if six of them were tucked inside. But Qingfeng was quite peaceful lying in the bed, probably it was because that he hadn’t seen so many strangers for such a long time. And most importantly, they were all the men without being haunted by the nightmare of smallpox.

Song Qinghan took out the scalpel and disinfected it. He used a handkerchief that was stained with alcohol to wipe Qing Feng’s arm. And then waved the scalpel and cut an incision on his skin.

Then he used the same method to cut another incision on Xia Yunfei’s hand. However, unlike Qingfeng, the incision on Xia Yunfei’s skin was right at the festered spot. Song Qinghan gently scratched it with the scalpel and the next second the pus inside flowed out all of a sudden.

Song Qinghan reacted briskly as he sharpened his eyes and quickened his moves. With a nimble action, he collected all the pus on his scalpel and then applied them all on Qingfeng’s bleeding incision.

Though Qingfeng found it a bit disgusting, he tried to grit his teeth and endure it.

Well, he would even drink all the pus as long as such a treatment could cure the annoying disease.

In worrying that probably the doze was not enough just from one side, Song Qinghan exposed the pus from the other festered spot on Xia Yunfei’s skin and then transported them to Qingfeng. It was not until there existed sufficient pus in Qingfeng’s incision did Song Qinghan stopped operating, he quickly wrapped them by the incisions with some clean gauze.

He got his movements rather nimble without even an unnecessary work. It only cost him one and half hours from the moment he got in the room to packing up everything getting ready to leave.

Doctor Shi was totally stunned as he noticed Song Qinghan stopped all of a sudden, he came to ask in confusion, “Everything is done now?”

Five pairs of eyes were now gathering on Song Qinghan at the same time when Song Qinghan finally noticed that he hadn’t made any explanation to these fellow travelers, he coughed dryly and then pointed at outside, while saying peacefully, “Let’s talk about it outside.”

Everyone swarmed into the yard. And then Doctor Shi pondered for a brief while, rose his voice and said in hesitance, “Although Qingfeng accepted the fact that it probably would post some deadly risks in such an experiment, won’t it be so sloppy for the method? ”

He admitted that he had put too much faith in Song Qinghan’s medical talent, and in addition, he knew nothing about anything of the smallpox treatment, so he would fully trust Song Qinghan and obey his arrangement without any objections. But his faith in Song Qinghan began to shiver since Song Qinghan seemingly “looked upon human lives as if they were grass”.

This time he could apply the pus as an experiment, maybe next time he would apply the blood and what about the third time? Might it be saliva? If the symptoms kept its ferocity, would they take an endless series of experiments?

It would be fine if such an operation wasn’t something bad to Xia Yunfei and Qingfeng’s health. But what if it festered the situation and finally caused the death? Should they change experimental person in every single experiment?

Song Qinghan could totally understand Doctor Shi’s concerns. He would definitely kick the doctor’s ass if the one looked upon human lives without reverence for life, after all.

But Song Qinghan shouldn’t let them know that he had once seen someone succeeded curing patients using the same method.

He pondered for a moment and explained slowly, “Despite the result, there should always be someone taking the first bite of an apple. So Doctor Shi, if it was you to take over this case, what aspect would you consider first?”

Doctor Shi was stunned there, he fumbled for a while and then let off a long sigh, shaking his head and saying honestly, “If it was me to take over this case, I am afraid I am not able to make a right decision.”

Song Qinghan nodded understandingly because he knew exactly Doctor Shi’s characteristics. This old man was like all the other doctors mastered in traditional Chinese medicine who would mostly choose a conservative treating method as their main ways. Like in some theater when patients were about to approach their ends, doctors who adopted traditional Chinese medicine would recommend a way of “Fight Fire with Fire” and finally made it to save the dying ones. But in fact, such a scenario was hard to realize in actual operation.

In other words of unpleasantness, as for a doctor who had enjoyed a reputation of eternity for his whole life, the way they fought fire with fire to succeed saving the dying incurables was just an icing on the cake. But if they failed to save the patients from the death door, such an action would totally be a deadly blow to their hard-earned fame.

Well then the mission would finally fall to those ordinary doctors. Some doctors of mediocrity would definitely love to try their best to resort to any possible tactics to save their patients. Most importantly, they would surely gain reputation of it if they succeeded. But the problem was that it was hard for patients or their family members to trust such doctors. So in this case, most doctors would choose a conservative method to treat their patients. At least they wouldn’t be accused even they couldn’t make any success in curing.

Doctor Shi seemed to figure out Song Qinghan’s meanings, but the servant aside got furious suddenly, “Tell us what the difference is between your action and those who look upon human life! You didn’t even take a pause for that boy nor did you inquire him of something about the symptoms. You just acted in your own will. I would say that even if you succeed curing him, it will be just for your dang luck’s sake.” he roared.

Hearing that, Yuan Wenxuan broke in in protecting his own master, “What are you roaring at? My Master isn’t someone who will make an arbitrary decision without a careful consideration. AND,” he frowned tightly blocking the servant from Song Qinghan, “YOU ARE NOT my master, how do you know he did not find something which made him be so decisive?”

There seemed to be a fierce outbreak of quarreling before Doctor Shi stepped in, Doctor Shi approached and dissuaded, “Calm down! Since everything is a foregone conclusion now, all quarrels will just be useless. Let’s wait for days and see the result.”

The next moment when Doctor Shi finished the last bit of his words, there came a hurried door-knocking sound.

Song Qinghan frowned and asked, “Who is that?”

“Open the door! Or I will smash all of you inside!” shouted a man with a rough voice.

Song Qinghan gestured to motion the rest to get inside the side room as he found the people outside might be someone who was not easy to get along with. He approached the door while picking up a round and long wooden stick lying at the corner, and then slowly, he slid the latch, saying coldly toward outside, “What’s the matter?”

Several bulky men showed up right outside the yard, and one of them got close to Song Qinghan peering in while sneering and saying, “HA, a beauty from outside. Wanna have some fun with us? If you serve us good, you will be exempted from the punishment. Otherwise… you’ll see.”

It seemed that this bunch of bulky men was not that easy to get along with, so Song Qinghan did not take a reckless action to get into a fight with them. He threw the stick on the ground, and then smiled to the bulky men seductively, curving his index finger and saying gently, “Alright then, sirs, come on in.”

And then he turned around walked towards the room where Qingfeng stayed decisively.

Qingfeng seemed to be a little surprised, but when he saw that Song Qinghan made a gesture to him intending to quieten him, he nodded in cooperation and nestled into the quilt.

When the ruffians outside noticed that things had gone so smoothly, they suddenly had a bad premonition in their minds, but the courtyard was queerly quiet as if Song Qinghan was the only person in it. In addition, Song Qinghan’s figure was so enchanting under the light. They couldn’t hold back their lust as they rushed into the room where Qingfeng stayed.

Every bulky man was stunned standing still at the gate of the room when they found that there lay another man in bed. They discerned at the man carefully, and then came to an cheerful excitement when they found out Qingfeng was in a skinny shape. And then they snickered and rubbed their hands in delight, one of them said in impatiently excitement, “One more beauty, it seems to be our lucky day today, brothers!”

Song Qinghan smiled and slowly pulled open the quilt covering on Qingfeng, and then motioned Qingfeng to turned his head and then smiled in a brighter way to those ruffians, saying mockingly, “How about now? Still your lucky day?”
