10 – Meeting with Students

The day passed and the morning dawned.

I stuffed my few things into my bag and came down to the first floor. Looking around, the red bear inn was still empty with no customers at all the tables.

Only then, when I was worried about whether the business would go well, I met Daisy’s eyes. She looked at me and smiled kindly as if nothing had happened last night.

“Did you sleep well?”

I nodded silently. When she saw the main luggage on my shoulder, her expression turned bitter as if she guessed that I was leaving now.

“Eat breakfast and go.”

“It’s okay.”

Today is the official schedule of the academy, so don’t be late. And I could tell at a glance that she was looking at me. Daisy’s smile was a bit awkward and stiff, unlike usual. No matter how much she tried to pretend nothing had happened, she wouldn’t be in a good mood for a meal.

I paid the lodging fee on the first day, but it seemed that the advance payment for last night’s meal would not be enough. But she somehow didn’t think Daisy would take the money, so she quietly left a gold coin in her room. I’ll check carefully later.

I opened the inn door and went out into the street. Then Daisy came out to meet me at the door.

She asked cautiously.

“Can I see you again?”

“If the opportunity arises.”

“Come for a drink anytime. At that time, I will prepare a better drink than now.”

I left the inn just as I had the previous day, waving silently.

I didn’t look behind her, but for some reason I had a hunch that she might be looking this way all the time.

I took the tram and arrived at Fillion Academy.

When I put on the instructor’s uniform and presented the instructor’s ID, the entrance was almost free pass. She didn’t have a demanding test like yesterday. Rather, it was confirmed that she was an instructor, so she was able to pass through the gate while being greeted excessively by the guards.

According to the notice handed out by Instructor Lilya yesterday, the entrance ceremony is tomorrow, but students have to unpack their luggage in the dormitory by today. It is the rule for all Fillion Academy students to live in the dormitory except for special reasons. And Instructor Lyria informed me that all of the classes I was in charge of had already arrived except for one.

There are a total of 4 classes in Fillion Academy.

First, Diamond White, made up of royalty and nobility.

Second, Garnet Red, made up of commoners and gentry.

Third, sapphire blue composed of priests and seminarians affiliated with the Emperor’s Office.

Fourth, the emerald green, composed of aliens or alien races outside the empire.

According to the explanation of Instructor Lilya, who guided us through the academy yesterday, none of the four classes are my responsibility.

“There are a lot of special freshmen this year. So, the president opened a new special class for special students.”

Opal Black, a special class of the Fillion Academy newly established this year.

That was the class I would be in charge of.

I don’t know why, but the dormitories were so far apart that they couldn’t interfere with each other. Within the vast academy grounds, Diamond White is in the middle of the academy, Garnet Red is in the east, and Sapphire Blue is in the west… Something like that

The Opal Black dormitory was located at the northern end of District 3. Thanks to this, due to the route structure of the tram that goes around the academy, no matter what direction you take the tram, you have to get off at the last stop.

After waiting for about 30 minutes on the campus-only tram, we arrived at the Opal Black dormitory stop. As soon as I got off the tram, I saw a vast forest. I was in the academy until just now, but when I got off the tram, it was suddenly a forest.

As I walked along the trail in the dense forest, a magnificent mansion soon came into view.

Contrary to the name Opal Black, not all of the dormitory buildings were painted black. Although the roof was black, it blended with the pure white marble walls to create a rather grand and elegant atmosphere.

What surprised me most of all was the scale. Even at a cursory count, the five-story building, including the roof, actually looked taller than that, but the mansion in District 2, where high-ranking nobles lived together, was probably not this large. Less than ten people lived in a space of this size, so there was no such thing as a waste of space.

I stopped at the entrance of the dormitory for a moment.

“… ….”

Beyond this are the students I will teach. President Heinkel said that there is no right answer in education, and Instructor Lyria advised that students do not have to be too difficult, but he honestly has not yet decided how to treat students.

I am an instructor and my job is to teach students. As long as he was faithful to his role, there was no need to build a plausible human relationship with the student.

What is certain is that I will never be a good and kind teacher. I acknowledged that part and humbly gave up on giving up, so I got some strands.

I don’t mean to look bad, but there’s no need to look good. Feeling more at ease, I opened the door and stepped inside.

The opal black dormitory had a very large and grand front door, just like a mansion, but I didn’t have to open the heavy-looking door by hand. As soon as I put my instructor’s ID, the door opened automatically, and I could see the wide and splendid main lobby beyond the open door.

Seven students were waiting for me in the lobby.

“What?”

“That person….”

When I went inside, all the students’ eyes were on me.

I calmly faced seven pairs of gazes that seemed to be searching for me. In the tense atmosphere, no one opened his mouth, and a calm-looking male student approached me with a short clearing of his throat as if to break the silence.

“Looking at you wearing the instructor’s uniform, you don’t seem to be a single student who hasn’t arrived yet. Are you our instructor by any chance?”

I nodded lightly and answered.

“This is Opal Black’s instructor, Ion Graham.”

I met the eyes of the students looking this way one by one and answered that. There were three friendly gazes on this side, three indifferent ones, and one hostile gaze for some unknown reason.

“Hey!”

A girl with dark red hair looking away. I could tell at a glance who she was. Because my direct supervisor showed me pictures of me whenever I had a chance, regardless of my intentions.

A male student with a calm expression opened his mouth.

“Nice to meet you. Instructor Ion. Actually, we had just arrived at the dormitory, so when the instructor arrived, each of us was waiting to introduce ourselves. One hasn’t arrived yet, but since we can’t wait all this time, is it okay if we start with me?”

It was an offer with no reason to refuse. Although the name of the student in the class I was going to take and the general personal information were written on the notice given by Instructor Lilya, it was natural that it would be easier for them to get acquainted with each other by introducing themselves face-to-face.

I nodded and the boy smiled softly.

“Then let me introduce myself in order from the right. My name is Schurz von Valier. Good luck after that.”

“Battar Kun. It came from the meadow.”

Two male students gave me a favorable look.

Schurz was a bespectacled boy with dark gray hair, his mouth smiling softly, but his eyes constantly searching me seemed a little calculating.

And Batar Kun. He was a giant with a muscular body that could not be covered by his school uniform and a bold face with a shaved head.

“This is Saladin Al Camil.”

“This is Titania el Elendrin.”

“… ….”

Three people who looked at me indifferently.

It was immediately apparent that Saladin had come from the desert kingdom of Al-Kamil, as he had dark coffee-colored skin that was not common in the Empire. He was showing signs of discomfort, as if he was displeased with being here.

Titania was a tall schoolgirl with long ears that anyone could tell she was an elf. She shook her shoulder lightly as the girl next to her didn’t say anything when it was her turn.

“… Oz? Oz. Calm down.”

“Huh?”

“It’s self-introduction time.”

The girl who only looked at me for a moment when I first came, and stared at the empty space as if she had lost interest, stared blankly at me with hazy eyes as if she were dreaming of her.

“Oznia Hebring.”

The girl turned her head again as if that was the end.

“This is Marian von Karlstein. Please take good care of me. Gyo, Gwan, Nim?”

And a female student with a familiar face who kept glaring at me with clear eyes.

I was a little surprised when her name was written on the notice that Instructor Lilya gave me yesterday. She knew that this time she was entering Fillion Academy, but she never thought she would meet me as a student.

But as far as I can remember, Marian and I have never met each other, and I’ve never done anything to her that would amount to her hatred. Did Marquis Karlstein write something strange in her letter so that she wouldn’t approach her precious granddaughter unnecessarily? If so, I could understand.

And the only female student who looked at me favorably, and the last one who hadn’t introduced herself yet.

“This is Elisabeth von Galatea.”

Snow-white hair and vertically slit red eyes were the characteristics of the white dragon Albnisis, the companion of Filion the Great, and were evidence of the dragon lineage, the physical characteristics of the imperial family and the legitimacy of the Galatea imperial family itself.

Old memories slowly come back. I thought I’d forgotten all about it, but the familiar eye and hair color reminded me of the face of a man who had given me terrible nightmares 15 years ago.

“Please take good care of me in the future. Instructor Ion Graham.”

The other identity of the woman who confidently walks up and extends her hand to me like the heroine of this place.

She is the hero’s younger sister.
