80 – Eradication of Thoner tribe (9)

When the order was given, the soldiers of the 1st and 2nd battalions shouted in a loud voice as if they had been waiting for this moment.

“I waited for this order to come! Kill them all!”

“Don’t save your arrows, shoot hard! It’s an arrow, you can take it from their corpses and use it again!”

“Pay me generously. Kill the barbarians and make them good.”

We were able to protect ourselves from the arrows they shot with our shields and armor, so there wouldn’t have been many casualties on our side.

But from the side, the archers fired arrows, clattering from a distance that seemed almost out of reach, like flies buzzing.

Not too long ago, it was regrettable that we couldn’t have a drink together while eating plenty of meat, so I saw my comrade who had promised to trample on all the barbarians and drink meat and drink to his heart’s content, dying right next to him.

I would have been nervous and anxious to the point that I couldn’t stand it sanely.

So, when crossbowmen shooting arrows and wizards casting magic attack the enemy, the unique sound made was repeated at a faster rate than usual.

“You piglets who live in the castle, you are all dead!”

“The Khan will not forgive you guys!”

“Gaah…”

Due to my limited vision, I couldn’t see with my own eyes how many enemy archers the battalion fighting on either side had killed or how the situation was going.

My guess is that the damage suffered by the weak archers would have been greater than the damage suffered by the allies who wore hard armor and secured some defense against arrows.

Besides, the number of archers was at most 400, and the total of wizards and crossbowmen deployed on either side of our regiment was 600.

A lot of barbarian cavalrymen died and their numbers were reduced now that their fighting power would have been much weakened.

“Order the knights to pretend to chase the archers on the left, and tell them to go behind the front center army. Also, tell them never to think about chasing the archers. Unless we ride even the legendary Pegasus, the knights cannot catch up with the barbarian cavalry.”

The reason I emphasized this is simple.

The reason why the European knights were so helplessly defeated by the Mongol cavalry was that they considered them to be cavalry like themselves.

It was because he chased them down like an idiot while riding a horse that couldn’t run fast and for a long time in a state of full body like a professional wrestler.

If Werner, the commander of the Knights Battalion, made such a mistake, we would be unable to beat the enemy’s central army by tying them to the ground.

As a result, our regiment will not be able to avoid being exterminated here.

About five minutes after I gave the order, I could see the 24th Regiment’s knight battalion raising dust from the left wing of our unit toward the enemy.

At the same time, at a glance, the distance between the Central Army guys and our infantry became so close that an arrow could reach them.

“Everyone in the regiment, hold your long spear at an angle of 45 degrees! Cover your face with your left arm!”

“Among the cubs in armor, those who died from being hit by arrows died without covering their faces! Don’t worry if you can’t see right in front of you! Just hold on!”

“Only look at the back of the guy in front of you! I can’t even reach the window anyway!”

NCOs and officers waved their swords and told the soldiers to cover their faces.

We are now in a situation where the enemy is hit with arrows in the form of ‘⌜⌝’, that is, from the front and left and right.

I had no choice but to adopt this tactic in order to win against them, but when I was surrounded by enemy forces from three directions.

The soldiers and officers felt more fear than I ever imagined.

“Arrows are flying! Everyone, cover your face and bow down!”

“Ahh!”

Then, until just now, I could only hear the death murmurs of my allies from the sides, and I started to hear them from the front, left, and right.

Standing next to me and rolling in the advancing north for about two years, the face of a guy with a practical experience of the level of a noncommissioned officer in a decent rear unit was full of fear.

Perhaps if the unit I was commanding was not the 24th Regiment of the Northern Army, but an army made up of soldiers I commanded during the Rhineland era.

When it came to this situation, there must have been several idiots who tried to desert due to fear.

By now, the unit would have become a mess, mixed with the screams of people dying from arrows, officers shouting to hold on, and noncommissioned officers killing soldiers who tried to desert with spears or knives.

But the crisis was not only this.

“Regimental Leader, Regimental Leader! They’re… They’re starting to back off. The enemy troops in the center are retreating little by little as they mobilize archers and shoot arrows.”

It’s a very dangerous situation, but it’s like you have to risk your life to go into the wolf’s den to catch the wolf pups called barbarians.

Now we have to keep moving forward with the momentum of stepping into their jaws.

The 24th Regiment is annihilated the moment they stop moving or turn their backs, as if they were scared in the middle and want to go home.

If we hadn’t come this far expecting this situation, we would have been at a loss as to what to do with the situation.

The predicted situation is unfolding as it is, and we have prepared countermeasures to respond to it, so if we keep pushing forward, isn’t our victory guaranteed?

“This is the situation the regimental commander already predicted. If we hold out for a little while, the enemy’s central army will be crushed by us without mercy. So stay silent and move on.”

After saying that, I looked ahead and saw one of the guys wearing the shabby clothes worn by real serfs and holding farm implements like pitchforks.

I see some idiots trying to desert because they are afraid of us advancing towards them in unshakable formations as heavy as a mountain even while being bombarded with arrows.

Although the opposing infantrymen are barbarians who have lived in the wild and harsh northern region, they will not be able to help but shudder in fear when they see us silently approaching without wavering even after being bombarded with hundreds or thousands of arrows.

No matter how much they rolled in the wild, they would only deal with beasts like bears, and even though bears occasionally confront humans with spears or humans with fire.

When dozens of arrows were fired, there would have been no crazy beast that broke through and rushed to kill a human.

Also, while they themselves die in one shot, aren’t we advancing without dying even though we showered them with arrows?

Humans feel great fear when they meet an opponent who is more capable than themselves, or when they are in a situation that they cannot understand with their reason, so it is natural.

“The foot soldiers who need to drink more of their mother’s milk are so afraid of our 24th Regiment that they are trying to pee and run away. Also, we have already been hit by thousands of arrows, but our side, who are wearing hard armor, do not have many casualties. They only look scary, but they’re like paper lions who aren’t scary at all in reality. Deliver it to all units.”

When I gave the order, the officers of each unit interpreted and delivered my order in their own way.

“The regimental commander said that the barbarian foot soldiers are trying to escape while peeing!”

“Are we going to be so frightened by those children who are not as good as that dog? I believe there will be no soldiers pecking here.”

“The scariest thing is the arrows they shoot, and few of them die after being hit by them! Rather, if you turn your back and run away, you will be left behind.”

The one who spoke politely and heavily must be an officer of noble origin who came out of the academy, and the words of those who came out of the cadet academy differed in that they mixed very strong swear words.

Did all those words give the soldiers their own courage?

“Long live the Reich Empire, long live the 24th Regiment, long live the regiment commander!”

“Let’s kill the barbarian and take revenge. You filthy bastards, here we go!”

“Let’s go to avenge our dead comrades!”

All the soldiers shouted loudly, and anyway, the speed of the enemy infantry walking back was faster than ours, looking straight ahead and chasing them.

Although they weren’t close enough to touch each other’s spear blades yet.

The expression, morale, and current condition of the enemy infantry, who had not received any military training, were clearly visible.

You can see some of them moaning as they drain all their tears and mucus from being overwhelmed by the fear of death.

Behind them, those who appear to be acting as noncommissioned officers or officers are threatening with knives and weapons.

You’re probably saying this.

‘You guys have two options. Either fight the enemy and die here, or run away and die by my sword. In the case of the former, the family will be rewarded, but the cowardly bastard will be cut by me here and the family will be enslaved!’

And now it’s about time for the Knight Battalion Commander, Werner, to strike the back of the soft back of the enemy’s Central Army.

“Leave the crossbowmen and magicians of the Marco Battalion to support my battalion at the front, and turn the rest of the crossbowmen and wizards to the rear support. Enemy cavalry will soon aim for the rear.”

At the same time as the words fell, I could see fireballs shooting up into the sky from my seat in the rear of the enemy Central Army.

And what that sign means…

The knights led by Werner succeeded in charging and entered the rear of the enemy.

Victory is now assured.
