85 – Northern Occupation War (3)

A total of 20 tribes surrendered to our northern army right before the confrontation between the tribal allied forces centered on Ludvik and the Northern Army of the Empire on the Könihe Plain.

Three of the tribes were seen talking incoherently or looking for information to provide to Ludvik’s spies, so they decided they were spies and killed all the adult males belonging to them.

After that, children, women, and the elderly were all given rations so that they would not die, and at the same time, they tied them with ropes and dragged them around like weaving sea urchins.

The rest of the surrendered barbarians feared that they would end up like that too, and immediately reported any spies sent by Ludvik trying to contact them.

On the way to this point, only 50 spies were caught.

If the commander informs the soldiers of these stories, it is a great help in boosting their morale right before the sword and spear confrontation.

“Our Northern Army is strong. As proof of that, didn’t the pitiful barbarian tribes who were already under Ludvik’s more than 20 surrender!”

“If he was so afraid of the Empire, would he have sent 50 spies who were not even scouts? And how lax you can get so many!”

“The great Reich Empire is invincible, and the barbarians are no more than a handful of dust!”

Other units used it entirely to stimulate the fighting spirit of the soldiers.

To such a cry, the soldiers responded with a desire to return home alive, a desire to get ahead in the world after receiving a reward, and a fierce desire for a quick discharge.

Because our 24th Regiment defeated and repulsed the barbarians several times over the course of about a year after defeating the Thoner tribe.

You don’t even have to talk that long.

So I looked at the soldiers and shouted briefly and boldly.

“Now that we are here, victory is assured! Return with the glory in your hands.”

It was an arrogant expression that said it was no different from winning, so he said that he would not use rhetoric to boost morale.

“The regimental commander declared victory!”

“It’s as if we’ve already won!”

“This time, let’s change the twisted arms! I can do it!”

Then, after a while, a low and magnificent trumpet sounded, announcing the advance of the Northern Army.

“Forward the 24th Regiment! Hold your shield up to the side and in front! The fancy flies don’t mind.”

As we started to move, we started to see the soldiers led by old Ludvik.

Unlike the Thöner guys we faced before, the infantry in front of us looked pretty strong.

Although they didn’t wear armor made of iron like us, they did wear armor made of hard tanned leather.

His feet were a bit out of sync because he hadn’t received systematic military training, but judging by his imposing spirit, he seemed to fight pretty well if he fought with a sword or spear.

Unless you’re a crazy person, you can’t have that kind of attitude if your skills don’t support you.

Fortunately, it wasn’t possible to make all infantrymen into elites in just one year, so those like that were probably only a few.

So, behind the ones deployed at the front, there must be a bunch of weak foot soldiers that we dealt with in the past.

“Deputy Regimental Commander, lead the battalion under your direct control and stand in the vanguard and fight. I’ll lead the troops from a little behind.”

“All right.”

“You have to hold on well so that the attack of the rest of the units that fight wide to the left will end successfully. This time, I have to set up a big ball and do it once as a regiment commander.”

When I said that, the deputy regiment commander laughed and joked.

“Since I’ve been stuck in the cold north for too long, I’d like to try acting as a deputy division commander in a warmer division near the capital next time.”

“There’s no way we’d put a competent officer like you there.”

After a few jokes, I returned to the center of the regiment.

At the same time, the cavalry archers were approaching to use the tactic they had used many times before.

The 24th Regiment, already accustomed to the enemy’s mounted archery, responded in the best way we could, even though I hadn’t given an order.

“Remember the time we massacred the Thoners! Crossbowmen, make sure your arrows are loaded!”

“Those with shields, hold up your shields! If you lose your shield, you and your platoon will die!”

“Any bastard who runs wild will be decapitated!”

Then, in order not to expose the front of the face that the helmet did not cover, I walked silently with my head down.

Barbarians rode around and fired arrows, just as flies buzzed around.

Thousands of arrows will surely be flying towards us, but the one who raises his head to avoid or block it will die first.

Praying that no one would die from being struck by this damned arrow, they carried out their assigned tasks for each branch.

The shieldmen held their shields in place and silently stepped forward, while the crossbowmen and wizards quickly fired magic and arrows when the firing command was given.

On the other hand, foot soldiers rely on their armor for defense and walk towards the enemy in front of them, staring at the ground as if nothing happened.

No one is talking, but everyone except the crossbowmen and wizards are attacked unilaterally by the enemy, and this time when they cannot counterattack will feel the longest and most difficult.

“f*ck, this isn’t it! help me!”

“Babes, calm down. calm down! Even if you get hit by their arrows, you shouldn’t die!”

“Ahh! Aww!”

And I think there must have been a guy who couldn’t overcome the stress and ran crazy from the one-sided barrage of arrows among the troops following us.

I don’t know where it came from, but it must have come from a place that has never experienced the North…

And because of that kid, dozens or hundreds of people could die.

I kept walking while thinking about such miscellaneous things, but did the barbarians realize that it would be a waste of power to continue to touch the imperial army, which did not budge even in their own barrage of arrows?

“Stop shooting! Stop shooting! It doesn’t make any sense to stay here! I’m going to check the enemy knights!”

“Back off! Go back!”

“Dealing with those bastards, we all die!”

That’s how the barbarians stopped shooting arrows at our infantrymen and went round to attack the knights.

The crossbowmen under my command and the archers and wizards belonging to other units launched indiscriminate attacks toward those who fled.

As a result, a considerable number of cavalry archers died.

“The damn flies backed off! lived!”

“If you hold on a little longer, the enemy base is right in front of you!”

“24 Regiment, 24 Regiment! hurray!!”

The soldiers and other officers in my regiment looked pretty excited, but when I analyzed the overall situation, the situation was not very good.

Because in order for the strategy I devised to succeed, the knights had to charge into the rear of the enemy infantry and give them a big shock.

In the aftermath, the foot soldiers have to stop to have a chance.

If the cavalry archers who should attack our infantry attack the knights instead of us, reducing their number.

As much as that, the amount of damage the knights can inflict on the infantry in the center of the enemy will also decrease, and it is because they may not be able to tie the foot of the barbarian infantry.

“Damn it. This is not a very good situation.”

I muttered in such a low voice and looked around, but everyone seemed to think that they did not know when the enemy’s arrow would come flying from the front.

No one answered me, and it seemed that no one heard me.

And soon, countless arrows from the enemy’s central army in the front began to fly, and our regiment began to groan as the soldiers died.

“Ahh.”

“Ugh, f*ck! my arm.”

“An arrow in the thigh!”

Even though they were hit by arrows, the soldiers continued to move forward, and I, too, had no choice but to move forward.

As I moved forward, I kept rolling my head and thinking about how to break through this situation.

Finally, I was able to come up with a very nice way.

So I called for a messenger to be sent to my immediate superior, the division commander, and said this.

“Leave only two infantry battalions here, the minimum required to hold the line, and ask if it is okay to carry out camouflage operations with the rest of the troops when it is deemed necessary and receive an answer.”

“Yes, I understand. Is there anything else you would like to say?”

“No. One second is urgent, so hurry up.”

If our knights are attacked unexpectedly by barbaric archers, and the attack to stop the retreating foot of the enemy infantry is prevented or delayed… Then, can I do something similar?

Anyway, it only takes a big shock to tie them down.
