89 – Northern Occupation War (7)

“Commander, there is something I want to ask you.”

“Yes, Major Werner. What are you curious about?”

“Didn’t you tell the knights never to fight head-to-head with cavalry archers from the time they fought the Thoner tribe a year ago?”

At that, I nodded.

Because I don’t think an officer who says bullsh*t about using knights to catch archers from the front is not qualified as a commander.

“Because of our lack of mobility, if we fight them head-on, they will run away. We catch them because we only chase after them and end up getting hit by their arrows.”

“But why are you gathering knights to fight against the cavalry archers?”

“However, their strength is nothing other than their overwhelming mobility, as long as they can keep their feet tied. Our knights are far superior in terms of defense, attack power, and shock power that breaks enemy lines. There are enough odds.”

Make sure to read from noble mtl dot com

Like I said, they gave up a lot on defense and impact power, which deal massive damage to enemies when attacked from the front.

The reason for this is their unique tactic called the Partian shot.

When using their unique tactic, the Partian Shot (cavalry archery), the radius the horse has to move is very wide.

If a horse ridden by a knight travels 100 meters in one charge, then a horse ridden by a soldier shooting a Parthian shot must move at least 300 meters.

Because you have to move 100 meters to get to the enemy, 100 meters to fall, and 100 meters to move to keep your distance.

Because of that, even if a horse is an animal with better stamina than a human, the weight of the human on the horse should not be reduced as much as possible.

Since a lot of stamina is consumed, only light armor is worn to reduce the burden even a little, so the defense is very weak.

Therefore, if the knights hit it with a single blow with heavy weight, it would weaken to the point where it would really melt away.

While saying that, I looked around and saw a troop of knights retreating because they had been attacked by cavalry archers.

Its size is about 40 people.

I approached them with dignity and showed them the order the captain had written.

“I am Colonel Peter Yeager, commander of the 24th Regiment of the Northern Army. I am sorry that the unit suffered a major blow, but I want those knights who are still able to fight to follow my orders and come under my command.”

After saying that, a captain who seemed to be the most senior officer of the unit appeared and said,

“The battalion commander was unluckily killed by an enemy arrow, and the unit also shed a lot of blood.”

“I know. That’s why I won’t forcefully take power or do anything like that. And we’ll only charge once. If you follow me now, I will give you a chance to make a really big contribution in this war. Like a chance to decapitate Ludvik.”

If the situation wasn’t urgent, I’d try to convince you more here.

“You can’t give a lot of time. Just think about which choice is more honorable if you are in a fighting condition, and decide right away.”

Here I am in a situation where I have to find more knights who are retreating after suffering another heavy loss, and I have to cull the manpower to fight.

Rather than spending time persuading you, it would be better to just make recommendations and accept only those who will follow you.

“No, anyone who wants to make a big impact should follow me.”

Having said that, about half of the unscathed knights followed me, probably believing in my reputation.

And in this way, I kept turning from the left wing to the right wing, looking for knights in retreat, gathering knights in good condition and following them.

As a result, the number of knights following me increased to about 300.

Even if he hadn’t done the crazy thing of facing the cavalry archers head-on, he wouldn’t have been able to counterattack those who were out of reach.

Besides, many knights died because of the arrows they shot from a long distance, and there were many units that suffered heavy losses to the point of retreating because of that.

When I was near the 12th Division attached to the right wing on horseback, Werner asked me.

“However, aren’t knights able to fight properly only when they are able to coordinate with each other and fight as one body? But if you just mix it up like this…”

Certainly, the members belonging to the Knights Unit are a type of soldier who even trains to keep breathing together for several years at the longest so that they can fight efficiently while demonstrating their abilities as much as possible when fighting.

Recognized for its uniqueness and ability, it is a unique type of soldier in the empire, such as a commoner like a wizard, or even a serf starting from a sergeant if he meets the conditions.

So, as I’m doing right now, if I just gather random knights and form a troop, it might have the opposite effect.

“Those who belong to the knights unit can’t even charge with spears and use barbarians in front of them. That’s all you need to do now.”

“As the regimental commander said, if you are a member of the knights unit, you know how to at least lance charge according to the signal. If you can’t keep pace with that, you’ll have to stick your nose into the plate and die.”

As the words say, the guys belonging to the knights unit are trained to hit with a lance by matching the signal with any unit if they are given a horse, armor, and a lance.

Charging with a lance was the very meaning of a knight’s existence.

When it comes to really large-scale battles, sometimes dozens of knight regiments (200 men) belonging to other divisions gather to lance charge in units of thousands.

If it’s a knight of the empire, anyone can do as much as I want.

Also, an infantry battalion was passing by in front of my eyes as the unit suffered damage and was retreating.

I asked them while showing them the order book I used to mobilize the knights.

“The long spear you use, can we use it usefully?”

“All right. Take it.”

“Thank you, Major. Later, I will send five barrels of wine to your generation.”

Although it may seem very strange to bring the long spear of a soldier’s life after showing only one order.

In the Empire, all equipment and weapons used by soldiers, noncommissioned officers, and officers are basically provided.

And if there was a valid reason, they didn’t take responsibility for damage or loss, so they handed it over immediately after seeing one of the orders.

If it was an army that had to buy weapons and armor with their own money, like Spain’s Tercio, they would have definitely resisted when asked for a spear.

He would have regarded it as robbing him of his raw money.

“Besides, long spears for infantry are also spears similar to lances after all, so even in the Imperial Army manual, it says that you can use long spears for infantry if you don’t have a lance when charging a lance.”

The reason why that is possible is that when charging a lance or a spear anyway, you can use it roughly as long as the length is right.

Anyway, with this, even the knights who did not carry a lance were provided with all the spears necessary for lance charging.

“f*ck, those ruins! Why are you only targeting us!”

“You bastards who are like swarms of buzzing flies, run around!”

“It’s a coward oranga’s baby! Let’s stand in front of each other fairly and squarely!”

When I turned my gaze to the place where I heard that voice, I saw the flag of the 7th Regiment of the 12th Division that Laura had mentioned.

Also, as expected, the cavalry archers under Ludvik were circling around and firing arrows at us in order to somehow slaughter us.

I want to step out and help right now, but if we go out now, we won’t be able to deal any damage to those barbarians.

Because the moment they see the knights, they will judge that they are dangerous and run away again.

Moreover, given the circumstances, it is expected that Ludvik is among the cavalry archers over there.

“Everyone, put your lance or polearm under your armpit and prepare to charge. When I give a signal, they charge after me.”

At those words, everyone seriously put spears in their armpits and stared at the enemy in front of them.

A soldier’s mental strength must have been completely shattered by Ludvik’s constant fire.

The guy standing in the front threw down his spear and ran forward.

When the slightest crack was formed in the formation of the infantry, the enemy barbarians shouted with cheerful laughter.

“Now! Put down your bow and draw your sword!”

“It’s time to take revenge on the pigs who lived in the castle!”

“Slice them all and kill them!”

Then they began to pierce the formations of infantry with their swords as swift and sharp as a single arrow.

“f*ck! f*ck!! Some crazy bastard threw a window and ran out!”

“help me! help me!”

“The madman who threw the window and ran out! If I want to die, I will search quietly alone. I don’t want to die!!”

The soldiers of the 7th Regiment were completely shocked to see the cavalry archers riding their horses this time, drawing their swords, and putting their minds to rest, not knowing if the aftermath would reach other units.

Now Ludvik and his henchmen are completely alert and are charging.

“They are bastards who slaughtered our soldiers and kidnapped the innocent people of the Reich Empire and used them as slaves and sex toys! Staking our knight’s honor, let’s go kill all those filthy cultists today! charge!”

All the knights who followed me responded to my words.

“Let’s stomp on every barbarian bastard and kill them!”

“There is no need for surrender! I will just kill you!”

“The battalion commander’s enemy! Bastards!!”

Then, in order to properly command these 300+ knights, to utterly kill the enemy entering with a drawn sword while riding a horse among our infantrymen.

I took the long spear I had just borrowed from an infantryman and stood at the front.

I’ve learned how to lance charge several times since the academy, but it’s the first time I’ve ever ridden a horse in real combat.

In a war where life and death can be divided in an instant, won’t an enemy soldier who is pierced by a novice lance charging die?

I am confident.
