The Seal is Broken (1)

The trial hall was set abuzz again following Zheng Wan’s choice.

No one had expected that Zheng Wan would still choose to go to Yuqing Sect when she had free choice of any of the twelve major factions.

After Yuqing Sect’s first sect leader ascended to the Total Assimilation cultivation stage, there had not been the appearance of any amazing talent. Amongst the seven great sects, it has always been at the bottom, and the entire sect practised charm arts.

Low-level charm arts either used Yin energy to replenish Yang energy, or used Yang energy to replenish Yin energy. Even if it was somewhat better than the enchantment techniques of demonic cults, stressed on moderation instead of forgoing long-term benefits for immediate satisfaction, but it was still a means by which one had to ingratiate oneself. Moreover, getting vital energy from others is ultimately inferior to self-cultivation as even if the cultivation base could rise quickly, one’s combat abilities would always be at the bottom.

And intermediate-level charm arts——

Currently, in the entire sect, Zi Xiu Daojun was the only one who managed to persist in its practice.

But there were also differences in the cultivation stages amongst Daojuns. Zi Xiu Daojun was only at the Formlessness stage, while the other elders present were already at the Void Refining stage. In the higher cultivation stages, the difference of one stage was an immeasurable chasm.

As for the high-level charm arts, the legendary Non-Emptiness Sutra that was capable of creating worlds had long been lost since the first sect leader ascended to the beyond.

“Little one, don’t go there just because you think their uniform robes look nice,” Jing Su Daojun shook his head. “I’m afraid you’ll waste your innate Dao core.”

“Daojun, I’ve made up my mind, and will not change it.”

Zheng Wan’s eyes curved into a smile as she refused.

A girl that was so good looking, standing there smiling gently, even if she was refusing, she didn’t make others feel annoyed.

Seeing this, the leaders of the other factions did not say any more. They exchanged looks, then disappeared without a trace as they had come.

For the first time, Zi Xiu Daojun had won in a tussle over the recruitment of a new disciple. He was feeling very happy, and was increasingly satisfied with his newly recruited little disciple. He beckoned the disciple that was leading the recruitment team and said, “Qing Shuang, go take your Little Junior Sister to settle down.”

Qing Shuang was Zi Xiu Daojun’s eldest disciple. He had handsome and commanding looks, and though his complexion was a little dark, he had an exceptionally bright and cheery aura. He walked over to Zheng Wan and bowed, “Greetings, Little Junior Sister.”

He handed Zheng Wan a sect number token with the word “One” engraved on it. In the top right-hand corner, were the small words, “Yuqing Sect”. He said, “When you enter Yuqing Sect, take this number token to the Internal Affairs Hall to exchange it for the sect’s identification jade.

“However, I still have to trouble Little Junior Sister to wait for a while. You can only leave after the third assessment tomorrow.”

Zheng Wan followed Qing Shuang to the guest room belonging to Yuqing Sect to be settled. In the evening, when her stomach began to rumble, she went out to the lobby to order food and ran into Liu Yi in the stairway who also happened to be out.

The black-haired Liu Yi was dressed in red, and her eyebrows were drawn in an especially bewitching manner. Zheng Wan couldn’t help taking a longer look, but unexpectedly, this drew Liu Yi’s ire.

“Why are you looking at me?”

“If you don’t look at me, how do you know I’m looking at you?”

Zheng Wan recalled then that she still had a score to settle with her. Even though the injuries she received during the trial disappeared when she exited, Liu Yi did indeed harbour the intention to harm her parents.

She pinched her fingers together, “You’re dressed quite differently today.”

“What does it matter to you?” said Liu Yi gruffly.

Zheng Wan moved her gaze intentionally around her body and finally landed it on her crimson lips.

“Oh, I see, you’re going to look for Cui Wang.”

Liu Yi’s lips trembled, but she said staunchly, “I love Zhenjun, so naturally, I have to go to seek him.”

“Oh? Your love is to kill him over and over again in the trial? Sure enough, such true love is hard to understand indeed.”

Zheng Wan’s eyes were curved into a smile. She felt like she was now playing the role of the hammer that was breaking up a pair of affectionate lovebirds. Look, Liu Yi was so angry that her whole body was trembling, how fun.

A familiar “Amitabha” came down the stairs; Zheng Wan looked up to see Cui Wang and Fu Sheng Zhenjun coming downstairs together.

She immediately smiled sweetly and obediently.

“Li Wei Zhenjun, Fu Sheng Zhenjun, what a coincidence.”

“What a coincidence, young cultivator.”

Fu Sheng Zhenjun was now very interested in her; even the twelve long chimes still seemed to be echoing in his ears. “I’m going for a drink with Li Wei. Young cultivator, will you come along?”

Zheng Wan glanced at Cui Wang; seeing that his expression was frosty, she wasn’t willing to touch this coldness, and shook her head resentfully.

“I won’t.”

“Eh——” When Fu Sheng Zhenjun passed them, he glanced at Liu Yi and stopped in his tracks. “This young cultivator, you’re the one who killed many Li Weis in the trial?”

Liu Yi’s face flushed crimson; she looked nervously at Cui Wang.

“Y-yes.”

There was not a flicker of movement in Cui Wang’s expression. He seemed to be unaware of all around him, and only stood silently at the side, listening as Fu Sheng Zhenjun spoke with others.

In his sea of consciousness, the old ancestor was making an incessant din.

“You are not present in the little miss’s obsessions, so you’re upset, right?”

“Or are you thinking, that little Liu lassie keeps saying she loves you deeply, yet she was able to kill you over and over again; that little miss Zheng says she admires you, but turned around and planted a love gu in you—so is that love real, or fake? So you’re upset again, right?”

The silent sea rippled slightly; Cui Wang lifted his eyes, only to see the orderly rows of wine jars on the inn’s counter.

He was actually a little thirsty.

“Let’s go.”

Fu Sheng Zhenjun put his palms together and bade Zheng Wan and Liu Yi farewell, but before they could leave, he saw the teary-eyed woman in red suddenly rush in front of them—to be precise, she rushed in front of Cui Wang.

Liu Yi clenched her fists, gathered her courage, and said, “May I ask Zhenjun to step aside for a word?”

Cui Wang raised his eyes to look at her and frowned slightly.

“The karmic cycle between us has been resolved.”

“Yes, it has.”

Liu Yi wiped away the rouge on her lips with her fingertips. “I only have one question for Zhenjun. If Zhenjun answers me, I will not pester Zhenjun anymore.”

“Go ahead.”
