The Transient Realm (End)

In a flash, a ray of blue sword light passed through the pack of wolves and came before Zheng Wan. It came faintly and quietly, dispelling the dense darkness. Although it was neither violent nor conspicuous, the wolves were annihilated the moment it passed through them.

It was as if it were a flash of omnipotent light.

Zheng Wan knew that this was Cui Wang’s secret killer move. He had refined the primordial sword Qi that was borne from the creation of the Universe into his own body. However, if he forcibly used it when his cultivation rank wasn’t high enough, there would be consequences——

Within two hours, all four of his limbs became powerless, and he was completely at the mercy of others.

Cui Wang fell from mid-air like a rag.

Even though the danger had been removed, Zheng Wan’s angina grew increasingly severe. It felt as though a fierce beast was hiding in the dark, wanting to land a fatal blow.

She couldn’t care about that now.

Zheng Wan raised her head; when she saw that was happening, she lunged over to catch Cui Wang. “Mister Cui——”

Cui Wang glanced at her through his half-hooded lids. That glance was like that of a sorrowful Buddha—benevolent, yet hiding an unending coldness.

Zheng Wan almost thought she had misread it.

Caught him!

Her heart gave a jolt of joy. The bones in her arms cracked from the impact and her arms fell limply, apparently broken. Still, she refused to let go, and used herself to cushion his fall. Who knew——

A huge force hit her in the chest—Zheng Wan was knocked away, rolling several times on the ground before coming to a stop.

“You! Cui Wang——”

Zheng Wan was half-sprawled on the ground; her arms were broken, and her sternum was half caved in, rendering her completely immobile.

“W-why?”

As soon as she opened her mouth, blood spurted out.

Zheng Wan didn’t understand why Cui Wang would hurt her. He had been… so nice earlier.

“Sorry.”

Cui Wang resumed a seated position, and began to recuperate while exhaling deeply. His eyes were neither sad nor happy, as if the woman sprawled in front of him was just an ant.  “I’m just protecting myself.”

“How would I even be able to hurt you?!”

As she spoke, she coughed up another mouthful of blood.

“Lovers’ Gu.”

In a tone that was impossible to distinguish between joy or anger, he enunciated each word clearly:

“I can’t trust you.”

Zheng Wan suddenly understood.

When the faceless monster told her about the lovers’ gu, it must’ve also told him about it too.

“You’re afraid that I will use the gu on you?”

“Yes.”

“So, from the beginning… you never believed that my feelings for you were sincere, and never believed that I really wanted to save you. Then, why did you keep on helping me out?” Zheng Wan didn’t understand why a faint stuffiness rose from her heart, and when it went through her nose, it actually made her eyes and nose sour.

She realised that she was actually a little sad.

She thought she had grown closer to him.

But who knew, it was all fake.

Cui Wang cast her a look, and Zheng Wan suddenly understood what he meant.

Buddha has said that when sweeping the floor, one should take care not to endanger the lives of ants. Therefore, to the best of his abilities, Cui Wang would take care of the “ants” within his lands. He would watch them as they scurried about busily, and suck up to him in order to survive. He treated it as a form of entertainment to alleviate his boredom. But the instant an “ant” had a means to hurt him, he would cut off any possibility of it hurting him.

What a hypocritical and cold form of love and kindness.

It was truly chilling.

Zheng Wan lay on the ground, gazing into the depths of the forest. She felt that the ground was as cold as her entire being—body and mind. This ant was so stupid; it had developed a delusion and mistakenly thought that it was being cherished, and wanted to feel the warmth of the immortal——

Stupid, utterly stupid.

It was blinded by the immortal’s glorious radiance, and mistook it for a warm source of fire.

“Zheng Qingwu, you’re full of lies; how can I trust you?”

Cui Wang looked at her condescendingly.

Zheng Wan lifted the corners of her lips, “But I rejected that monster.”

She repeated, “I rejected it.”

Two lines of tears trailed silently down her face; in her heart, Zheng Wan said to the monster, “Deal.”
