Opening the Sect’s Doors (1)

[ Guixu Sect, Xuanqing Peak ]

The instant Li Siyi stepped off his sword, he seized a disciple at the door and asked, “Have you seen Li Wei Zhenjun?”

“Li Wei Zhenjun is sparring with the section leader at Xuanyu Peak.

With a flicker of thought, Li Siyi casually threw a jade bottle, and his sword went straight to Xuanyu peak. There, Tian He Xianjun was standing at one side to keep a hold on the situation as he watched his little disciple’s sword fight with the Pure Veracity stage’s section leader.

Clouds of sand and pebbles billowed around the arena, and everywhere was dark and murky.

Li Siyi was unbothered. When he arrived, he jumped off his sword straightaway and shouted,

“Little Junior Brother, did you really make a lifelong commitment with a mortal woman in the mortal realm?”

Cui Wang practiced the Way of Impassiveness, and his sword, too, was extraordinarily unfeeling.

With one slash of the sword, a storm raged with full force in the enclosed space, and not a trace of either the sun or the moon’s light could be seen. Even the Pure Veracity’s section leader who was one cultivation stage above him broke out in rolling beads of cold sweat. When a sword light, as blinding as snow, slammed into his eyes, the section leader nearly believed he was about to be sliced into two by the sword light.

It was at this moment that Li Siyi’s voice interrupted at just the right time. The swath of dazzling frosty light actually froze; the section leader seized the opening and was in the midst of extricating himself when he saw that swath of light suddenly enlarge. In its brilliance, it actually lashed out at the Li Siyi who had abruptly appeared.

“Ahhhhhhhhhh—— Junior Brother, Junior Brother, have mercy, have mercy!”

Li Siyi fled desperately. The scholar’s headdress was pulverised by the sword’s Qi, and this swordsman who had come out of the dust looked as if he was being chased by ghosts, crying out to the heavens.

Tian He Daojun put his hands together; waves of Qi swirled into a whirlpool and swept out. The three in the battle became like sails in the wind, scattered apart in an instant.

The wind stilled, and the clouds stopped.

“That’s all for today’s match!”

Not finding anything beneficial for himself here, the section leader somersaulted and left leisurely.

“Little Li Wei, let’s spar again another day!”

Frightened witless, Li Siyi hid behind Tian He Daojun and stuck his head out.

“Little Junior Brother, you were the unfaithful one, what are you chasing me for?”

“Li Wei, your Qi was disturbed for a moment just now,” said Tian He Daojun.

No one knew better than him how strong-willed his little disciple was. At fourteen, as a Centring stage cultivator, he was able to sit in the Thunderclap Net for three days and three nights; an average Accomplisher stage cultivator couldn’t even last for half a day.

Cui Wang stood there, straight-backed. The winds at Xuanyu Peak had always been fierce, causing his robes to rustle noisily about him. He recalled his sword, and answered solemnly, “Yes.”

“Could it be——”

“Nothing of the sort Master is thinking about has ever happened,” said Cui Wang categorically.

Tian He Daojun looked at him.

“If you’re tired, it’s all right for you to not attend the recruitment of new disciples that’s happening in two months.”

“It’s all right.”

“I’ll go with Little Junior Brother!” Just then, Fourth Junior Sister Luo Xue walked slowly towards them along the other path that led to Xuanyu Peak. Her skirts fluttered behind her, and her beautiful face was all smiles, “Second Senior Brother, you’re just so susceptible to rumours. What are we going to do with you?”

Li Siyi choked; but thinking about Fourth Junior Sister’s designs, he swallowed his words and laughed.

“I’m just teasing Little Junior Brother.”

Luo Xue lifted her eyes towards Cui Wang. Only when she saw that his eyes were like frosty snow, seemingly uninterested in anything in the world except for the sword in his hand, did she relax.

“Farewell.” Cui Wang nodded and bade his Master goodbye; with a single movement, his body turned into a swath of light and disappeared from the spot.

Li Siyi said enviously, “Little Junior Brother’s sword Qi is already at the highest level.”

“Still not going to practice?”

Tian He Daojun shoved him onto his butt, sealing him off in Xuanqing Peak for closed-door cultivation. When he passed his fourth disciple, he paused. “Ming Luan1, one’s heart is like the boundless sky, it should not be encumbered. Do not let your heart’s mind be confused by the scenery before you.”

“Yes, Master.”

When Luo Xue lowered her head, she glanced unwittingly at the spot where Cui Wang had disappeared from, and suddenly felt that something… was quietly becoming different.

Two flowers bloomed, one on each branch.

While Cui Wang was clashing swords with the section leader, Zheng Wan had already led Zheng Zhai, Madam Wang, and Ji Wang all the way back to the rented house in silence.

The mortal servants she bought were a middle-aged couple. While they were away, they had already quickly cleaned the small house and were standing guard at the door.

“Ji Wang, you may just rest here.”

Zheng Wan was unwilling to see the glee on Ji Wang’s face. Listlessly, she led her parents to the main courtyard, crossed the atrium step by step, and went up to the corridor, under which the hanging lanterns were swaying faintly.

The place was just way too cramped when compared with the Zheng family’s ancestral home, not to mention the Senior Grand Secretary’s residence.

The red paint was dark and dreary, and there was a musty smell. Upon entering, there was a courtyard with two main houses, a left-wing, and a right-wing. After allocating the rooms, there was only one spare right-wing left.
