Ch2 - Date Me?

After taking a long bath, Bai Xi finally wore Qi Xun’s bathrobe, then dried his hair in front of the mirror. The robe was too large. It failed to surround his frame, which caused his slender neck and chest to be revealed.

As a matter of fact, he is a dashing man. Chestnut medium length hair, pale skin, exquisite facial features, and two round glittering eyes. His dimples would appear when he smiled, which would cause anyone to have a favourable first impression.

He had many admirers, both men and women, over the years. If he wasn’t dead set of hanging on this tree called Qi Xun, he would have dated at least seven to eight times.

But no matter how many people admired him, none of them could seem to diminish his admiration from that certain someone.

He put down the hairdryer and stood in front of the mirror for a long while. He walked out begrudgingly and thought that he could not further delay his judgment. He could only face it.

When he went inside the dining room, Qi Xun had changed into grey loungewear and sat at the table, waiting. The morning light lit his unworldly amber eyes. If he is not smiling or laughing, he could be compared to the high-class judge at court.

On the table are two portions of chive garnished snowy-white porridge with a variety of side dishes. Bai Xi noticed that they were takeouts from his favourite Cantonese restaurant. He likes the food from that place because of its refreshing flavour.

Bai Xi sat down quietly in the chair opposite to Qi Xun. There were cushions on this seat, seemingly as a consideration for him.

“Have some breakfast first,” Qi Xun looked at him. “Or you won’t have the strength.”

Bai Xi agreed with him and obediently scooped a spoonful of porridge.

He was sending the helve after the hatchet, even just a little bit. He had never taken the initiative in front of Qi Xun anyway, he could just wait for judgment.

When Bai Xi was almost done with his meal, Qi Xun placed down his chopsticks and wiped the corners of his mouth with a napkin.

He asked, “Is there anything you want to say to me regarding last night?”

Here it is. The topic that Bai Xi dreaded.

Qi Xun still asked him in the end.

Bai Xi lay down his spoon as his heart pounded rapidly against his chest. He didn’t have the courage to meet the gaze. He looked down and pondered what he was going to say. He thought about it over and over, but he still did not know how to make it clear.

“Last night was an accident. I drank too much, you also drank too much. Why don’t we just let this thing pass,” He bit his lips, saying the next sentence in a smaller voice, “Just pretend last night didn’t happen…”

This might seem selfish but he hoped that they could turn a blind eye to this matter. He wished Qi Xun would completely forget it so they could live their lives peacefully.

Even if the affair wasn’t a coercion, it couldn’t be said to be tender either. He knew that he was not gentle, exceedingly rough even. It was completely Bai Xi’s right to ask him to take responsibility as well.

Yet this lad wanted to pretend nothing had happened.

He looked at Bai Xi helplessly.

“Bai Xi, don’t lower your head like that, look at me.” He said.

Bai Xi hesitantly lifted his head, like a timid student hearing his name on a roll call.

Qi Xun met Bai Xu’s eyes. “About yesterday, it was an accident indeed. We were both drunk, but I won’t escape my responsibility.”

When Bai Xi heard this, he hurriedly shook his head in an attempt to correct him. He carried most of the responsibility. He was the one who coveted Qi Xun’s beauty, the other didn’t have to take it on himself.

But before he could speak, Qi Xun dropped the bomb, blowing him out of his wits.

“Maybe you don’t remember it, but when you held me yesterday, you said you like me.”

Qi Xun was very calm when he said these words. There was no doubt or disgust in his voice.

Bai Xi was completely dumbfounded. His lips opened slightly and his eyes widened.

Because he really didn’t remember. If he still had a trace of sanity at that time, he would definitely stop his drunk self from saying those words.

Why would he spew out his deepest, darkest thoughts as simple as that!

Alcohol was indeed very harmful! Not just to your kidney and stomach, but also to the brain.

He mumbled, trying to reason his way out, “No, that was, I was drunk…”

But Qi Xun didn’t give him a chance to lie, and added, “You told me you like me since high school, for six years. You asked me why I didn’t notice your feelings.” While speaking, Qi Xun kept their eye contact. “I’m sorry. I really didn’t notice it.”

Bai Xi was thinking of digging a hole then burying himself in.

He didn’t even have a fig leaf to cover himself with. Having a crush on Qi Xun wasn’t the shameful part, but it felt disgraceful to have Qi Xun play the hole he poked through the paper screen as if all of his secrets were displayed under the sunlight.

“Bai Xi, do you really like me? The kind where you desire to be in a relationship with me?”

For Bai Xi, being asked such a question made his heart hurt.

He looked at Qi Xun and pursed his lips. Compared with his embarrassment and uneasiness, there was no defiance or rejection on the other’s face, just calmness.

But because of that, his heart sank even more.

Bai Xi nodded after a brief silence.

Since things had come to this, he had nothing to hide. Qi Xun didn’t even give him a chance to argue.

“Correct, I like you.”

Bai Xi’s hands clenched on the bathrobe, then suddenly loosened. He felt sad, but at the same time, relieved.

After all those years, he can now express what he has kept and taken care of.

But these six years had been so long and hard that he didn’t know where to start.

He forced out a smile and said, “Of course I wanted to have a relationship with you. I often dreamed of it. It’s true that I have liked you for six years. I have liked you since high school. You were the reason I applied and attended S University. I wanted to get closer to you. I deliberately befriended you, but I knew you wouldn’t have accepted me, so I never thought of taking the next step.”

“I thought for a long time that one day I would stop liking you, but I myself don’t even know when that day would come.”

He pursed his lips and gathered the courage to meet Qi Xun’s eyes. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean for it to happen. I…didn’t want to win you over this way.”

He was embarrassed to utter those sentences, but the other has to know his sincerity..

He really didn’t mean it, but was afraid that Qi Xun would misunderstand him and think he had deliberately used alcohol. He nervously glanced across the table in fear of seeing disgust on that handsome face.

Fortunately, Qi Xun just seemed to be surprised by the truth.

Bai Xi sniffed and had the urge to cry. If he knew that his secret would be revealed today, he would prefer it to be in a romantic place, with clear skies and calm seas. Even if he will be rejected, it would be a satisfying and delightful ending.

He whispered, “Do you dislike me now…?”

He didn’t have the heart to use ‘hate’, he did not think he could bear it.

Qi Xun looked as if he didn’t know why he was asked such a question.

“No,” He shook his head. “You didn’t break any law by liking me.”

Bai Xi almost laughed at this sentence, for this was such a Qi Xun like answer.

He picked up the cup of water on the table and took a drink. Although his biggest secret was exposed, he actually felt a bit calmer.

The worst outcome was that he and Qi Xun couldn’t be friends anymore.

From the day he fell for Qi Xun, he actually made such mental preparations. Only a few people could be in a relationship with their crushes after all, since commonly, they lead to a tragic ending.

It might take a long time for his heart to recover from the heartbreak…

His mind was in complete chaos and his thoughts drifted. Before he could finish thinking, he heard Qi Xun call his name again.

“Bai Xi.”

He came to his senses and caught the others’ gaze.

The light outlined Qi Xun’s body with a layer of soft glow. His strong facial features have this charming laziness. When he feels satisfied, he emits tenderness.

Suddenly, Qi Xun asked seriously, “Do you want to have that relationship with me? The one that leads to marriage?”

For a moment, Bai Xi thought he was hearing things.

He fell into a daze and suspected that the impact he experienced this morning must be so intense that his imagination became reality.

He asked thoughtlessly, “Did you say something?”

“Indeed,” Qi Xun said calmly before repeating, “I asked you if you want to date me.”

A crisp crack emitted into the living room.

The cup in Bai Xi’s hand fell to the ground and broke into pieces. The water spilt and spread throughout the wood floor.

He coughed violently and his face reddened.

Five seconds ago, he thought he would face the bitter end, but now the scene was beyond his expectation.

This was something so ridiculous even he wouldn’t dream of!
