Agent Sakuara

Chapter 37 - 36: What are you?

"And you are right about that." Yumhee said casually as she takes her sit on a nearby vacant chair beside Erik.

Erik looked at her, waiting for her to be seated first before asking what everyone in the room is thinking. "Then what are you exactly?"

Yumhee scanned her surrounding, looking at their faces before settling her eyes to Erik. "To be honest, I really don't know." She answered with a shake of her head. Seeing their confused and unbelieving expressions, she tried to explain as best she can. "I was abducted together with my father and imprisoned in a secret underground Hydra facility under the direct supervision of Dr. Arnim Zola who works for Johann Schmidt, the head of Hydra."

"Schmidt?" Erik asked curiously. "Is he related to a Klaus Schmidt, a Nazi scientist?"

Yumhee was surprised to hear the question, going through her memories if the name Klaus Schmidt rings a bell. Furrowing her brows, she replied "I apologize. I have never encountered that name during my time as an SSR agent nor at my time in the Hydra facility. Though they both are Nazi scientists."

After a beat of silence, Hank cleared his throat to gain their attention. "Sorry...you still haven't answered the original question." Hank said, awkwardly scratching his right cheek.

"Right." Yumhee nodded and continued with her story. "During my stay in the facility, the Hydra scientists experimented on me for numerous times." Yumhee shared, eyes looking somewhat vacantly on her entwined hands placed on the table.

Moira immediately interjected, knowing the gist of the story. "You don't have to explain further Yumhee. I think everyone here already understands."

Yumhee gave her a small smile of reassurance. "It's fine, really." Looking back at the group, she continued. "Before every experiment, they have injected me a light blue substance. I don't know what it's made of. But being fed up with me not showing any results despite the many months of them experimenting on me, they have decided to torture my adoptive father right in front of me in hopes that it may trigger something, anything really, inside of me. And it did."

She paused for a few seconds, letting them absorb the information. "As of now, I have used 3 abilities that have resulted from it. I can teleport, I can control the temperature and I can coat my whole body with some type of crystal like stone that acts like a bullet proof vest. But it has many limits and using my powers carelessly have severe consequences to my life. The first time I used them, to save my son and my father, I had to recover for more than two years. Even with my enhanced regeneration capabilities, it can't heal the internal injuries I sustained from that day. It might be due to the fact that my body isn't completely compatible with the power I have gained, or maybe it was because it's my first time using it. But my enhanced healing capabilities did save my life. Without it, I would have been dead long ago."

"Why were you on that wasteland? Encased in some sort of electrical force field? What happened?" Charles immediately asked after.

Yumhee pursed her lips, furrowing her brows thinking of the pros and cons of telling them the origin and nature of her power. After releasing a long sigh, she decided that it's better to tell them the truth. "The power within me is somewhat sentient?" Yumhee shook. "No, I don't think that's the right word for it. But it's alive. It can feel as well as it can think."

"Wait. Is it possible that it can take over your mind and body?" Moira asked anxiously.

"No." Yumhee immediately shook her head. "It's not like that..." Yumhee trailed off, having a hard time explaining to them what she herself is having a hard time understanding. "Although I am a trained soldier who went to war, I am still human. The trauma together with the lost of my lover...the grief almost swallowed me and the paranoia which gave me endless nightmares and sleepless nights have slowly taken it's toll on my wellbeing." Yumhee released a heavy sigh. "My son was the only reason I held on. But after a few years, we have observe that his growth development has become stagnant. He remained like a new born baby when he should have been a toddler already."

Everyone was baffled. "How's that possible?" Hank incredulously asked.

Moira answered for Yumhee, seeing that the woman is becoming more uncomfortable as time went on. "Some say it's due to him having both parents being super soldiers. Although the serum can slow down their aging process, it wasn't to the extent of someone actually realizing it. The super soldier serum's effect is negligible."

"You were pregnant when you were abducted?" Charles asked carefully, finally piecing the puzzle bit by bit.

His question garnered a mixed reaction from the others. Hank nodding his head, coming to the same conclusion after hearing what Moira said. Erik remembered his own experience in the hands of the Nazis, knowing well that what Yumhee had gone through was far worse. He became more disgusted by them. The room was plunged to a depressing mood.

Yumhee staying silent, Moira released a long sigh. "When Yumhee and her son got tested, the result was them aging seven times slower than the average."

"Oh my God..." Raven, knowing what it's like to age slower than the others, felt sad for them.

"After knowing that...I became more unstable mentally and emotionally." Yumhee continued. "The power inside me, deemed me unworthy to wield it. And I understood why. Such immense power that can literally wipe a country under an unstable host is not a good thing for everyone." Everyone nodded to that. "What happened that they is like a desperate call to me, to prove my worthiness. My awakening to what I am now." Yumhee now had a small smile gracing her lips. "I guess I have succeeded because I'm still alive." .

"Did it explain to you what you have become now?" Charles, the ever curious scientist, asked.

"It did actually." Yumhee tried to remember what it said. "Do any of you know what Infinity Stones are?"

Everyone shook their heads. Yumhee furrowed her brows again. "It said that my power was only an insignificant part of one of the Infinity Stones, the Space Stone. That's all I was able to get from it before I lost consciousness."

"Can't you just ask it?" Erik questioned.

Yumhee shook her head. "That's not how it works. It doesn't have the ability to communicate on it's own. During pressing times does a separate consciousness, that awakens due to the power's strong emotions, lends it's voice."

"Okay...I'm sure I'm not the only one confused right now." Alex interrupted, which most agreed.

"I apologize. It's confusing to me as well." Yumhee laughed a little. "Okay. Let me try again." She exhaled. "Arnim Zola was able to harness the power of the Space Stone. While doing that, he extracted a tiny portion of its consciousness. The two are separate entities I guess. But they work together. Though the consciousness extracted only awakens when it is needed. Like on life or death situations."

"So...are you stable now?" Angel asked anxiously.

"I believe so. After the incident...I can now somewhat understand the power inside me through a feeling..." Yumhee struggled to explain how it works. "I'm so sorry. It's really hard to explain."

"Were you able to gain new abilities besides the electric forcefield?" Cassidy excitedly asked.

"Hmm..." Yumhee pondered for a moment. "Well...during the painful experience of it tearing me apart from the inside...I remember that during the last moments, I seem to be able to make small scale earthquakes and then there was the electricity coursing throughout my body that I was able to emit... That's all I can remember sorry."

Hank and Charles made eye contact, then nodded to each other. "Is it alright with you if Hank and I do some tests?" Charles asked.

"Don't worry, it would be safe and painless as much as possible." Hank immediately added.

"Well...I myself want to know more about this power." Yumhee gave them a genuine smile. "But is it possible for me to contact my father first?"

Moira was startled by the request. "Yumhee..." After realizing something, a lump formed in her throat and had a hard time breaking the news. "What year do you think is it now?"

"195—..." The horrified expression on her face made Yumhee unable to finish her answer. "What year is it?" After a minute of silence, Yumhee asked calmly.

Moira hesitated for a moment before answering. "1962."

"No..." Yumhee said in a whisper. She understood then the exaggerated reaction from Moira.

After Erik guided everyone out the room, Moira and Charles went beside Yumhee.. Moira stayed to summarized what happened to her family in the decade she was gone while Charles helps stabilize Yumhee with his ability.
