Chapter 11 - Initiation 2/2

"Think this is it?" Yang asked her black haired partner as they arrived at a dilapidated and abandoned temple with various pedestals upon which rested the relics they would have to collect.

"Chess pieces?" Blake asked as she looked at a king piece in confusion.

"Some of them are missing. Looks like we weren't the first ones here." Yang adds, noting that some pedestals are indeed missing a chess piece.

"Well, I guess we should pick one up." Blake said still observing the various chess pieces lining the walls of the temple.

"Hmmmm…. How about a cute little pony?" Yang said as she held up a golden knight piece sharing a smile with Blake as the both walk to the centre of the temple. "That wasn't too hard!" she added.

"It's not like this place is hard to… find?" Blake began, trailing of near the end of her sentence as she noticed a red and black figure falling from the sky. At the same time the terrified shriek of a 'girl' could be heard, whereas in reality this was Jaune.

"Blake, Did you hear that?" Yang asked as she turned to Blake "What should we do?" she added now hearing someone shouting "Heads uuuuuuuuup!" from above her. This of course was Ruby, who was currently hurtling to the ground headfirst flailing her arms wildly on the way down.

But right as she is about to crash into the ground a white a blue streak crashes into her launching them both into a tree next to Yang and Blake.

"Oohhhh… What was that?" Ruby muttered in a daze, shaking her head to get rid of the stars circling her head.

"Eh-hem!" Ruby heard, turning her head slightly to see the owner of the white and blue blur, which turned out to be Jaune who was now hanging upside down from the tree. "Hey, Ruby…" he added.

"Did your sister just fall from the sky?" Blake asked

"I…" Yang was about to speak when from the forest she heard several crashes as an Ursa breaks through the tree line swiping its claws as soon a bright pink explosion hits its back forcing it to the ground, dead. As it was falling forward an excited "YEEEE-HAAAAAW!" could be heard coming from its direction as an orange haired girl in a bright pink skirt appeared standing atop the Ursas body muttering "Awwww… It's broken"

"Nora! Please… Don't ever do that again." Pleaded a black haired boy wearing green as he arrived next to the dead Ursa, gasping for air. Looking up from the ground he realized that the girl called Nora had vanished.

Nora, being the excitable person she is, had already arrived at the temple and had picked up a golden rook piece, and had begun dancing and singing as a small musical jingle came out of nowhere.

"Nora!" the boy shouted in exhasperation.

Nora stopped dancing, saluted while dropping the piece that had been atop of her head into her hand, "Coming, Ren!" she replied as she skipped off to her friend.

"Did that girl just ride in on an Ursa?" Blake asked Yang who once again replied with an "I…" before getting cut off once again as a screech is heard from the forest and a red headed girl burst from the foliage followed by trees shattering and a giant Deathstalker Grimm chased her.

"Jaune!" The girl shouted

"Pyrrha!" Jaune shouted

"Woah!" Ruby commented before jumping off of the tree she had landed on.

"Ruby!" Jaune w.h.i.n.ed

"Ruby!" Yang added

"Yang!" Ruby added, raising her hands to hug her sister who does the same.

"Nora!" Nora shouted appearing in between the sisters.

The Deathstalker still chasing Pyrrha around as Blake asked "Did she just run all the way here with a Death Stalker on her tail?"

Yang, finally having had enough of it shouted "I can't take it anymore! Can everyone just chill out for two seconds before something crazy happens again?!". Exactly two seconds later Ruby tapped her sisters arm as she stared into the sky pointing at Weiss who was hanging onto the talon of a giant bird Grimm called a Nevermore.

"How could you leave me?!" Weiss shouted to the ground getting a "I said 'jump'!" from Ruby.

"She's gonna fall." Blake blankly said.

"She'll be fine." Ruby added unsure if she would be fine.

"She's falling." Ren also blankly added as everyone ( Except Jaune who was still trying to free himself from the tree) watched Weiss careen towards the ground.

Jaune had now finally freed himself from his leafy confines and jumped from the tree to catch Weiss. Only for him to undershoot and end up falling to the ground face first as Weiss landed atop his back with an audible crack, even though no bones were broken.

"My hero." Weiss mocked as she inspected her nails.

"My back…" Jaune g.r.o.a.n.e.d. The Death Stalker still chasing Pyrrha in the background, successfully knocking her away with a swipe of its pincers sending her landing next to the rest of the group.

"Great! The gang's all here! Now we can die together!" Yang in a sarcastically enthusiastic voice.

"You're forgetting about Arthur…" Ruby reminded as she turned her head towards the forest hearing the sound of hooves hitting the ground.

"Coming through!" Arthur shouted in panic as he rode in on the back of a large black horse Grimm before he pulled out his sword and stabbed the Grimm in its neck as it was running, killing it instantly but still sending it skidding to the floor, coming to a stop in front of the group with Arthur still sliding a bit further on his back.

"Owww…" Arthur muttered as he looked up and saw Ruby peering down at him "Oh, hi Ruby" he added with a small smile.

"You know, this day is getting real tiring now." Yang blankly stated.

"Yeah, you don't know the half of it…" Arthur replied as he remembered his meeting with the Tiger Grimm, as well as the situation that lead up to him riding a horse Grimm to the temple.

"Oh, Come on!" Arthur shouted as he ran away from a stampede of the horse like Grimm's. Scaling a tree to dodge them all, but getting knocked out of it a few seconds as a particularly feisty mare kept ramming into the tree, with him landing on the back of the mare sending it bucking trying to knock him off, only to start charging into the forest when its attempts proved futile.

"you don't know the half of it…" he repeated as he sat up and asked "So, what I miss?". Soon being answered when he heard a screech from the Death Stalker that was now charging towards them. "Right, that…" he added wide eyed at the sight of the giant scorpion.

"Don't worry, I've got this!" Ruby shouted as she charged the Death Stalker.

"Ruby, wait!" Yang shouted as she watched her sister get punted backwards as the Death Stalker knocked her away.

"D-Do-Don't worry! Totally fine!" Ruby shouted to confirm her safety as she turned around and shooting the Death Stalker in its face causing it to start chasing her.

"Ruby!" Yang yelled as she rushed to her sisters aid only to be interrupted when the Nevermore flapped its wings sending a barrage of giant feathers careening towards Ruby and Yang in a straight line.

Turning around as the feathers fell towards her Ruby saw one heading on a path towards her c.h.e.s.t, just as she was about to dodge to the side two feathers landed either side of her blocking her exit. Turning around in panic Ruby brought up Crescent Rose in an attempt to block it.

"Ruby!" Yang screamed in fear as she watched the feather fall towards her sister. At this point no one had noticed that Arthur had disappeared and was already a few meters away from Ruby as he jumped in front of her bringing his right arm up into a defensive posture transforming it into it 'Cross' state seconds before the feather arrived.

When the feather collided with his arm a cloud of dust filled the area blocking everyone's views of what happened. "No! Ruby!" Yang shouted as she ran towards the dust cloud that was slowly settling revealing two silhouettes, the first being Ruby who was sitting on the ground staring up in shock at Arthur crouched down on one knee, his transformed right arm raised, with a giant feather piercing straight through it and entering his side.

"Ar-thur?" Ruby muttered in shock as she stared at his unmoving body that was rooted to the spot by the feather.

Yang seeing this sight stopped as she gaped at the sight of Arthur with a feather piercing through his body spearing him to the ground.

Turning his head back to look at Ruby with a small smile as blood began to trickle from his mouth before he began violently coughing up even more blood, splattering some on Rubys shell shocked face as his body slumped and the power was lost from his body.

"Arthur, no… nonononononono!" Ruby screamed as her eyes began to glow a silver light as a bright beam of silver light shot out from them, landing on both the Death Stalker and the Nevermore, petrifying them both in spot, with the Nevermore crashing to the ground and shattering into pieces. The light soon died down as Ruby as she slumped to her knees and fell to the ground, in exhaustion.

"Ruby!" Yang yelled once again as she arrived next to her sister, still in shock at the sight of Arthur and that her sister could fire lasers from her eyes. The others soon coming to her side as they all stared in a daze at Arthur, some staring directly at the giant black arm that had a feather piercing through it, others noting the pale green flame on his shoulder that was slowly sputtering out.

"I'm fine! Help Arthur!" Ruby pleaded as she looked up at her sister with watery eyes.

"Ruby…" she replied downcast as she shook her head to imply there was nothing she could do.

"No, please! Yang!?" Ruby begged the tears finally falling from her eyes as she soon found her vision turning dark as she passed out. Her body being caught by her sister. Who turned to look at the horrific sight of Arthurs impaled body, with his left arm slumped, falling at his side.

"We… we should go…" Yang added as she looked away from Arthurs body as she picked up her sister and turned south towards the cliffs that they had been launched off of.

"We can't just leave him here!" Jaune shouted.

"Jaune…" Pyrrha muttered sadly as she walked up to him and hugged him. "There's nothing we can do for him, he's gone. We need to get to safety, I'm sure the headmaster is already on his way to bring him back."

"Damnit…" Jaune w.h.i.n.ed as he looked towards Arthurs body, his body soon freezing when he notices a dark figure coming from the trees behind Arthurs body. The figure soon revealed itself to be the same tiger Grimm that Blake, Yang and Arthur had encountered.

"Grimm!" Jaune shouted alerting everyone there to the large tiger shaped Grimm who was inches from Arthur's unmoving body, sniffing it gently. Turning around everyone froze at the sight of the Grimm, with Ren, Nora and Blake staring at it with unconcealed fear, while Nora was the only one who had begun to hug herself as she collapsed to the ground as her eyes began to waiver.

'Man spawn… such a strange one… on the verge of death… yet so full of life…' the voice of a young woman said, filling the surrounding area, most of the group began to quickly look around for the origin of the voice, finding nothing.

The dull green glow on Arthurs shoulder soon faded to nothingness as his body started to dissolve into particles of light, originating from where he had been wounded.

'I see… Man spawn… you intrigue me… I shall let you live…' the voice said as the body of the Grimm began releasing a dark fog that began to revolve around him, forcing the particles of light to return to his body as the fod also began to enter his wounds, as well as around the feather that had begun to dissolve when it came in contact with the fog.

Arthurs body soon fell onto his back, his wounds slowly began to heal, before stopping as a dark liquid started pulsating from the wound in his c.h.e.s.t and fell to the ground in a puddle next to him.

"What… is going on?" Yang asked in confusion as she turned to her partner who also looked at her in confusion, "Anyone?" she asked again looking to the others who only replied with shaken heads or not at all.

'Man spawn… we shall meet again… one last time…' the voice said as the Grimm stood and turned towards the others, its eyes roaming over the group before landing on Ruby who was held in her sisters arms.

'Silver… Eyes…' It muttered it glowing red eyes squinting as at released a growl before turning away from the group and disappeared into the forest.

It took everyone a minute to process what had just happened, only to be snapped out of their daze as they heard a gasp coming from the unconscious Arthur who had begun to breathe once again, his wounds still open and bleeding, his arm had transformed back into its dormant state revealing the torn bandages and gloves that hid the dark red skin underneath.

"He's alive!" Blake shouted as she ran up to Arthurs body and checked his pulse as well as began to stem the bleeding coming from his c.h.e.s.t and arm. "A little help here!" she yelled to the frozen group breaking daze as Ren, Pyrrha and Jaune ran up to her and began to field treat his wounds.

"Guys!" Yang shouted getting everyone attention as she nodded towards the dark pool of black sludge that had come out of Arthurs body, which was now slowly congealing as a figure rose out of it, from which emerged the recognizable shape of a pitch black egg with white markings over it.

"An… egg?" muttered Yang as she stared in confusion. But not getting much further as in the distance she could hear the sound of engines as a bullhead approached their position. Son landing in the clearing as Ozpin and Goodwitch hurried out of it followed by a group of medics who immediately dashed towards Arthur and lifted him onto a gurney and pushed him into the Bullhead.

"ms. Xiao-Long, please lay Ruby down inside, we shall be escorting you back to Beacon." Ozpin said getting small nods from everyone there.

Once they were all inside Ozpin as well as Goodwitch walked off towards the large black egg and looked down at it.

"What do we do about this?" Goodwitch asked as she brought out her riding crop.

"Hmm, for now. Bring it with us." Ozpin said, shocking Goodwitch

"You can't be serious! It's a Grimm egg! Once it hatches it's going to be a danger to the students!" She argued.

"That may very well be. But I feel that that will not be the case… strange…" Ozpin admitted as he looked off into the distance at where the tiger Grimm had disappeared.

"I can't believe I'm saying this. But fine, but I shall be keeping it under close observation." She added getting a nod from Ozpin.
