Chapter 17 - Rice

"It's perfect!" Summer shouted as she stared at the red and black ring that was now on Ruby's left hand ring finger. Ruby at this point had completely given up as she stared at the ground with blank eyes, letting her mother hold her hand and inspect it.

"It really does fit you." Pyrrha added, getting a 'why have you betrayed me' stare from Ruby causing her to wryly look away.

Then came Blake who stared at Ruby's ring in fascination, almost hypnotized by the ring, earning her a 'I thought we were friends' glare.

After Blake was Jaune, who only glanced at it for a moment and yawning, getting hostile glares from both Summer and Blake causing him to freeze as he said "Beautiful! Absolutely amazing! Please don't kill me"

Once Jaune was done pleading for his life, Weiss had finished in the bathroom and had come out wearing her chalky blue nightgown as she let her hair hang loose. Her eyes locked on Ruby's hand, a wide smile crept up on her face as she too grabbed Ruby's hand and began inspecting it "It is truly an amazing ring, simple, much like yourself,"

"Hey!" Ruby yelled in defiance

"Yet, somehow it fits you perfectly. Now, if only you stopped acting like a child." Weiss finished. As she turned to see that Yang had awoken from her fourth concussion of the night.

Yang at this point, felt like she had been hit by a truck, stampeded by a herd of Goliaths, and dropped from an airship. Yet all of that pain faded away when her eyes much like all the others locked on her sister's hand. Her mouth hung wide as she began looking between her sister pleading eyes begging for a saviour and her hand. Only for her to snap out of her daze moments later, as she attempted to make another dash for the door, leading to predictable consequences for herself, now racking up a record of five K.O's in a single night.

"She, is persistent to say the least…" Weiss muttered as she stared at the unconscious Yang that was now being forced into a strait jacket and was having her legs bonded closed by leather straps, that Summer just seemed to have on her.

"That should hold her for a few minutes, at least." Summer commented as she wiped her brow of sweat.

While this was happening Ruby had begun to inspect the ring herself, and honestly, she had no words, she began to play with it trying to rotate it around, only to find that it wouldn't budge. She began to rotate it harder, the only thing budging being her own skin. So then she tried to take it off. Nothing. Pull even harder. Sore finger, and nothing. Her eyes dilated as she began to try even harder, only causing her more pain. Until finally she gave up and turned her eyes up seeing that no one had seen her previous actions as they were all watching her mother restrain Yang, who soon awoke and began struggling against her restraints.

"Sorry, Fireball, this is for my son in laws safety." Summer announced, shocking everyone in the room, as she had just accepted that Arthur was now her son in law. Of course this caused Yang to struggle even more as her eyes now turned even more crimson than before, affecting even her sclera. The sounds of straining leather could be heard coming from her only for it to suddenly stop surprising everyone except Ruby, who at this point was attempting to remove the ring, with Yang being the only witness as she stared wide eyed at her sister.

Everyone feeling something was wrong turned to follow Yang's line of sight, reaching Ruby, whose eyes were shaking and in panic as she forced out "It won't come off…" as she pulled on it to show that it wouldn't come off.

The room went silent for almost a full minute before a resounding "Eh?" was heard throughout the room, followed by tearing of cloth, leather, the roar of an angry Grimm and another meaty 'Thwack!' bringing the total to six in one night.

Back in the infirmary Arthur was awoken by a light glow and the sound of paper flipping. Opening his eyes he noticed that his Tome had once again opened itself onto the 'Sperata' page and witnessed as a new line was written on the bottom of it.

"Please… stop, I just want to sleep…" Ozpin muttered as he had heard the same sounds of a roar of anger and a loud 'whack!' after for what he predicted as being almost the fifteenth time that night. As he stared over the courtyard of Beacon he could faintly see a bright yellow light darting around the campus followed by a red and white blur every time a roar was heard.

"This is going to be a long year…" he w.h.i.n.ed as he picked up a pair of ear buds and a noise cancelling headset, hoping that these would alleviate the horrors of the rumoured 'Grimm night of Beacon'.

The light had begun to shine through the curtains of the infirmary that Arthur had called home for the night (plus week, but he was unconscious, so that doesn't count). Stretching his arms out he felt his side cramp as a bolt of pain coursed out from both his arm and abdomen where he had been impaled. "Owowow, oh… remind me to never stretch again" he muttered to no one.

Once he was done clutching his c.h.e.s.t in pain Arthur inspected the now empty room, fearing that this may be his last day on remnant if Yang had anything to say about it. As his eyes glanced around the room the fell upon his Tome, the accursed thing, that harboured a devil so evil, it can trick someone into signing a near unbreakable marriage contract.

Picking up the Tome, Arthur flipped it open thinking 'After last night, I really need to figure this thing out' as such he began to flip through the various pages, eventually coming up empty as there seemed to be large gaps between the different sections.

"Well, Ashe, considering you seem to have more control over MY book then I do, you want to give me an index page?" he asked, not so politely. The book shined as a third page appeared above the left hand page, this one being more rigid than a usual page and was connected to the cover and not any other pages.

Of course, Ashe couldn't make things easy for him as this page wasn't an index, instead it was a page connecting to the inner world of the Akashic Tome and revealed Ashe who was rotating her hand in front of herself as if saying 'What's the word…?'

Sighing, Arthur deciding that arguing would be more of a hassle than just saying "Please" and when he did a page appeared at the front of the Tome, titled 'Index'.

"Okay, that's much more helpful, thank you." He said getting a thumbs up from Ashe.

"Okay, what first, any recommendations?" he asked as Ashe put her hand on her chin and began to think, before having a light bulb moment as she flipped to the 'Quests' page.

"Huh. Maybe I should have checked this sooner" Arthur muttered as Ashe gave a 'you don't say' look.

"Okay so, how do I accept these then? I really need that repair kit, and what is Akal?"

To respond to his first question Ashe mimed using her hand of her raising her index and poking her finger onto her palm. "Okay, simple enough." He said as he copied her motion and raised his left right hand, still wobbly from the apparently still there hole that he could look through if he removed the bandages that were essentially preventing his arm from falling off. Pressing down on the quest 'Awakening of Innocence' a light burst from the book as a small… Drill appeared from it.

'Oh god' he thought as he remembered a scene from early in D.Gray man, where Allen had gotten his arm damaged and had to get it repaired. Which ended with screams of agony. "Staring at the small, probably going to hurt, drill. Arthur pressed down the trigger causing it to release a menacingly loud whirring noise as he stared down at his arm and back at the drill.

"I am going to regret this, aren't I?" getting a nod from Ashe's picture in response as he transformed his arm to its cross state, and saw the large circular hole in it. Deciding not to waste to much more time Arthur held down the trigger and started to place the drill bit against the 'Skin' of his arm. Immediately he regretted his decision as he let out an agonizing scream, almost as loud as Yang's roars from the previous night, causing him to let go of the drill, which didn't actually fall and instead floated as leather straps appeared out of nowhere and held Arthurs arm down as it began to rapidly run across the damaged sections of his arm releasing sparks and guttural screams in its wake, which surprisingly, didn't attract any attention, even from the supposed nurses that worked in the infirmary.

The process took in total about ten minutes at which his arm automatically returned to its sealed state revealing the undamaged bandages had returned to their spot. He also noted the his arm wouldn't move, most likely from the trauma of having a drill violently dragged across it, in a successful attempt to fix it. "Would, have, appreciated, the, warning" Arthur panted out as he stared hatefully at Ashe who held her hands up mimicking a 'Not my fault' gesture.

"God you are so lucky you are a book." He muttered as he collected the rewards from the other quests, noting that the last quest 'A Grimm Future' indicated that he had at some point contracted with a Grimm egg. 'I'll have to check that out with Ozpin'

"Okay and now can you explain what 'Akal' is?" she didn't respond "Haa, please?" to which she smiled and rubbed her thumb on her index and middle finger, the universal sign for 'Money'.

"Okay, so it's money, I'm guessing for the store page?" he got a nod in return. "Okay, I can check that out later, I'm more interested in the gacha" he said as he rubbed his hands together with Ashe who did the same as he flipped to the 'Gacha page' which really was just two pages the left one showing all the tickets he currently had, which in this case was only three {Beginners Luck} tickets. The other page instead showed a big button with writing above it which showed what the current selected ticket was.

"Okay, simple enough…" he muttered as he looked to Ashe who now had pleading eyes, begging him to let her have the honours "One time" Arthur said as he raised a single finger getting what amounted to a squeal of delight in mute moving picture form. As she lifted her hand and pressed on what Arthur assumed to be her version of a button even though he couldn't see anything.

The button of the Tome began flashing white and yellow lights, more often flashing white than yellow, yet every now and then there would be an orange flash, but this seemed to be a very rare occurrence, at least with this type of ticket. Soon the flashes began to slow down until it finally stopped on a consistent yellow glow, writing appeared beneath the button saying 'Calming incense x5'.

"Really? Incense? Of all things. I get incense. Okay, let's try again." He said as he pushed the button this time, much to Ashe's dismay. As before the button began flashing white and yellow and occasionally orange. This time it stopped on white, as under the button it said 'Cream Puff x 10'

"…" Arthur had no words, and he was sure if he could hear Ashe, he would hear raucous laughter judging by how she was keeled over clutching her belly as she wiped a tear from her eye. 'These better be, bloody good Cream puffs' he thought as he summoned one from the storage of the Akashic Tome.

And by god was it the best Cream puff he had ever had. "God dammit" he muttered as he took another one out, noting there were only seven left, as he watched Ashe also eat one, confirming that she did indeed eat, within the Tome.

"Okay, third times a charm" he muttered hopefully pressing the button for a final time, it rapidly flashed white and yellow, slowly but surely the flashes grew longer until finally it stopped on a soft orange glow.

"Yes!" Arthur shouted in glee as he read what his penultimate prize for this round of Gacha was, 'Bale of Inexhaustibility'

"The hell is that?" Arthur asked as he noticed Ashe was having another laughing fit even worse then the previous one. Turning back to the Tome he saw that it had flipped to another page, the 'Storage' page with the left page being a list of all currently stored items with a little scroll bar to the side while the other page had a small 'window at the top with empty space beneath it.

Selecting the 'Bale of Inexhaustibility' from the list an image of a golden bale wrapped in rope appeared in the window on the right hand page while under it text could be seen. He screamed "God Dammit!" this time alerting the entire school to his presence, not that anyone came to check on him.

"Oh, King of Knights, you have a good appetite. Here, keep eating. I have an infinite amount of rice. Tawara Tōta"
