Alyssum: Journey Of A Queen

84 'Run Jacob, run.”

"What did you say?" She thought she had heard him wrong.

"Ah, so you are only afraid of me when I hurt other people. That's very interesting."

"Take this blindfold off and show yourself, you coward." Alyssa hissed.

"Not yet, princess." He said in a sing-song voice.

"Stop calling me that." Alyssa spat angrily.

"You are in no position to be making orders." He said flatly as a matter of fact.

Alyssa sighed heavily.

These conversations were not going anywhere.

The man before her was so dense and alert that not a single clue slipped from his mouth.

She could hear his footsteps echo through the room, growing further and further away from her.

"Don't run away from me, you sick son of a bi*ch. You are going to pay for-"

She stopped speaking when she heard a knock on the door.

"Hello? Is anybody home?" she heard a voice coming from the other side of the door. Because of the partition, the voice was faint and a bit muffled.

"What a creepy place." The owner of the voice sighed.

"Hello? Does anybody live here? Can you help me? Actually, it is my car. It broke down on the way. Could you help me?" the voice pleaded.

This time the voice was a bit clearer to Alyssa. And when the owner of the voice said so much, Alyssa figured out who does the voice belonged to.

Her heart seemed to stop cold in her chest.

Outside of the door was one of her friends, or used to be. He can be his savior. But now Alyssa was conflicted. She knew a criminal was beside her, hiding in the dark. He can kill him anytime.

The door was unlocked and it creaked open.

"A… Alyssa? Is that you?"

The owner of the voice said recognizing Alyssa who was tied on the chair.

"Jacob," Alyssa whispered.

Suddenly the laughter of her abductor rang in the closed space. "We have company." He said joyfully.

Alyssa's heart dropped in her stomach.

"Run Jacob, run." She screamed at the newcomer.

"No, Don't you dare hurt him, you sick-minded criminal," Alyssa screamed at her kidnapper to gain his attention at her. this can make time for Jacob to run away.

She struggled against the ropes that bound her to the chair. She couldn't let that criminal hurt anyone innocent.

"Jacob, get out of the-"

A thick piece of cloth was shoved in between her teeth before she could finish her sentence.

But that didn't dampen her will to save Jacob.

She struggled more and screamed into the cloth, but she could hear the creaking of the floor as Jacob entered the room.

"W… Who are you?" Jacob said.

From the look of his eyes, it seemed that he was standing in front of the abductor.

"Oh my God!"

All Alyssa can hear was a scream. Jacob's scream.

Alyssa was blindfolded. All she can rely on was her senses and the sounds that she was hearing.

"W.. What are you doing? H… Hel… mmmph!!!"

His screams were muffled and there was a terrible commotion in the background.

From the sound, Alyssa guessed that the abductor and Jacob were fighting.

Objects kept falling on the background and heavy bodies seemed to be slamming against the walls and the cupboards.

Alyssa continued to struggle uselessly until she heard the sound of something hitting hard on the floor.

It was a body.

"Jacob? Jacob? Answer me." She said. Her voice was not clear and muffled due to the piece of cloth.

A small hope lit inside Alyssa thinking that the body may belong to the abductor.

She had never seen her kidnapper but she had felt his touch on her skin. His palms were calloused and his hand seemed to be of someone who had done some trainings. She had felt the force produced by those hands.

Even if Jacob used to be on the athletic team during high school, he was still nowhere near her kidnapper in terms of fighting.

And hearing those muffled groans coming from Jacob, she knew that it was the killer that had the upper hand.

But she hoped for some miracle to happen and Jacob to turn the game.

She felt a figure approaching her and in her muffled voice she asked, "Jacob, is that you?"

In response to her question, a cold metal touched the side of her left cheek making her freeze.

The hope that had lit in her heart died instantly.

The body that had fallen on the ground was Jacob's body

He was probably dead.

Tears stung her eyes and they came out freely.

Alyssa sobbed when she heard the body of her friend fall down to the floor. She had known him through her high school. Even though he made some stupid mistakes and they have separated on bad terms, Alyssa had never hated him. There were days when he had protected her against Violet and her schemes and she still missed their friendship.

And now he was dead because she allowed herself to fall into such an obvious trap. It was all because of her.

If Alyssa could see, she would have surprised to see hesitance and guilt in the eyes of her kidnapper.

"You son of a bi*ch." She muttered knowing exactly that she should not curse her captor. And although her words were muffled by the cloth stuck between her teeth, the abductor understood him perfectly.

"Why do you care about him?" The abductor asked her in a surprised tone.

"Because he is my friend, you bas*ard," Alyssa screamed at his face, still crying.

"But as much as I know, you stopped being friends with him during your high school. He had even sent some goons after you too. How could you pity someone like him?" The killer questioned.

"That's none of your business." Alyssa spat.

It was something between her group of friends and she won't allow a sick-minded bas*ard to make comments on her friends and their friendships.
