Chapter 42: Ex-Party’s Perspective(3)

“Now then, let’s get this done quickly! Hey, Quella?!”

As Roig continued to pound on the massive dragon skull without reservation, he spoke out.

“Roig? What are you planning to do?!”

Their purpose in coming here was supposed to be for investigation, but Roig’s behavior didn’t seem like someone who came for that reason.

“Oh, Fade, think about our current situation.”

“Our situation…?”

“Thanks to that damn Land, we’re now in danger of losing our S-rank party qualification.”

“No way…”

To Fade, Roig’s words were unthinkable, something he didn’t want to consider and had intentionally removed from his mind. It was only now that he realized he had been consciously excluding the possibility.

“Umm… if that were to happen Roig, you can no longer be an adventurer.”

“What?! You’re kidding me! Anyway, without me as the vanguard, you guys won’t be able to do anything worthwhile. Am I wrong?”

“Well, that’s…”

Fade fell silent as he thought. He had naturally been aware that Roig’s position was precarious, as Meiru had pointed out. But on the other hand, there was a part of him that thought they would be okay.

Without Roig…

In the absence of Land, who had been holding the front line to some extent, if he were asked to protect the two of them as the vanguard, he wouldn’t be able to fully demonstrate his strength. The same would be true for the other two. They had painfully realized during that dungeon escape that an unstable vanguard could not fully unleash their potential, even without Land.

Even on the way here, they had been forced to struggle in various situations, including non-combat tasks, and couldn’t help but be reminded of the need for Land’s presence.

Fade had stubbornly taken on those tasks, in order to prevent the party members from recognizing the need for Land.

“I understand the situation, but what does that have to do with right now…?”

“Damn… You really would still be stuck at B-rank without me, wouldn’t you?”

“Tch…”

Fade knew it too well. Roig had the overwhelming know-how and techniques to climb the ranks. He had the wisdom to choose quests that would raise their evaluation, prioritize quest completion, and even delay progress in order to achieve greater results.

That was knowledge and means that Fade didn’t have, and it was a method he wouldn’t have even thought of executing alone.

With this hesitation, complete control had already shifted from party leader Fade to Roig.
