Chapter 22: The Alchemist also helps

The fight went well, even to the untrained eye.

The strength of the two men was overwhelming, and the Drake was on the defensive.

Apparently, my fears were unfounded.

In fact, I almost felt sorry for the Drake getting beaten.

I was so relieved.

I’ve been slacking.

Maybe that was a good thing in this situation.

It gave me perspective because I was looking at the situation from the outside.

It made me more aware.

I noticed that besides the Drake they were fighting, there was another one with red eyes.

“Thomas, Mr. Shun! There’s another one!”

“What?

“Where is he?”

I point in the direction of the red eye.

The distance between where they are fighting and where I am standing is about the same.

A Drake of the same size is hiding on the right side of the hollow.

Drakes are fierce and cunning monsters.

It had watched his comrades being attacked and was waiting for an opportunity to strike.

And now one of them comes out of his hiding place.

And It’s after me.

“Damn it, it’s after Amelia!”

“It’s all right!”

“What?”

“Thomas and Mr. Shun, hold on!”

My body and mouth move with surprising smoothness.

I rummage through the contents of my bag slung over my shoulder.

Ahead of me, the Drake comes at me with breakneck speed.

“What are you talking about? I’m going to help you now…”

“Focus on that!”

“Hahaha! I think she’s serious.”

“It’s not funny!”

“Focus on what’s in front of you. You’re too late anyway. Trust her now.”

“A… Amelia.”

I can feel Thomas’s worried gaze on me.

Don’t worry.

I know words like that won’t get through to you.

I was worried, too, until I saw the two of you fighting.

Then I will have to show you by my actions.

I will defeat the Drake in my own way.

That is what I have been preparing for.

I will not be a burden to you if I follow you.

What if I am attacked?

What if there is a situation where they can’t help in time?

I don’t have the strength to fight.

There is only one thing I can do…

Alchemy will get me through!

I took out two things.

A yellow crystal the size of my palm and a piece of paper with an Alchemy circle drawn on it.

I place the crystal on the Alchemy circle and activate the magic.

The yellow crystal is a mixture of a plant and liquid.

Both effects are neurotoxic.

When absorbed into the body, they disturb the nerves and deprive the whole body of its freedom.

When the liquid is melted, it turns into a mist that spreads around the body.

“Oh…”

I hold my breath to keep from inhaling.

The paralyzing mist dissipates in about five seconds.

After inhaling, you can’t move for a while.

After inhaling a large amount, Drake collapses and convulses on the spot.

“—Pwa! I stopped his movement, but only temporarily!”

“Wow, you really stopped him.”

“That’s great… Amelia.”

“Hehe, what did I tell you? I’m fine.”

But inside, I was scared to death.

I’m so relieved that I made it.

I have to admit, being that close to a Drake was… terrifying.

“The effect only lasts about five minutes. There’s nothing I can do, so you better take it down fast.”

“You’re so right, Amelia. Let’s finish this, Shun!”

“Yes!”

Now that they know I’m okay, they both focus on the fight.

One of them, already battered and bruised, is quickly finished off, and they move on to the other, who is too stunned to move.

A rain of ice and a whirl of fire.

Two spells are cast simultaneously to the stuned Drake.

The final blow: a sword through the head.

“Huh.”

“It’s over.”

“Aah.”

The two men breathe a sigh of relief as they sheathe their swords.

I, too, relax my shoulders as the tension drains from my face.

It’s over.

We’re alive and well.

“Good.”

“Not good!”

“What!”

It was Thomas who shouted.

His expression is full of anger, something he has never shown before.

“Hey, why are you angry?”

“Of course I’m angry! Why did you do that?”

“Because I prepared for it, and it worked.”

“That’s true, though. If it hadn’t worked, who knows where you’d be right now.”

Thomas says this out of concern for me.

I can understand that.

But then I also have something to say.

“Thomas fought the Drake, just like I did.”

“I can fight.”

“And I can do alchemy, too, you know. Did you see that?”

“What do you do when it doesn’t work?”

“It’s the same as Thomas!”

The argument came to a head.

I was surprised at how persistent I was.

Then Mr. Shun interfered.

“Well, you’re both safe. Besides, you’re both angry for the same reason, so if you’re worried, why don’t you look out for each other? Don’t be reckless.”

“That’s also true. From now on, when you go to a dangerous place, you take me with you. I’ll be there to protect you.”

“That’s my line. I’ll follow you so nothing happens to Thomas, okay?”

“You guys… You already look like you’re flirting from the outside.”

“”Huh.””

Is that what it looks like?

That’s weird… I’m angry though.

But now I have the last material.

Now it’s time to create something!
