Chapter 6: The funny servants

“U-um…”

“He is a criminal! The woman-hungry Lord has become a criminal! I must tell Mother and Grandpa!”

“Who is a criminal! I would never do such a thing! I mean, listen to me!

“I don’t listen to criminals! Damn it, why isn’t everyone here when the time comes? I’ll take care of it…”

Her eyes turn to me.

She looks at me with such a serious look that my body flinches and I naturally straighten up.

“Hey sister! I’m going to stop this pervert, so get out of here while you still can!”

“N-No, um…”

“Don’t worry about it! I know you feel threatened, but don’t worry about it! We are responsible for the Lord’s misdeeds! I will kill this monster with my own hands….

“Calm down, you idiot!”

Suddenly, a tall man appeared and tapped her lightly against her agitated head.

There was a slight thud, she held her head and stared at the man who had hit her.

“Ouch! What are you doing, Brother Shun!”

“What are you doing? What the hell …”

He looked puzzled.

Who is this now?

He’s taller than Thomas, has short hair and looks slender but strong.

He has a sword on his hip and is dressed like a knight.

Could he be the soldier guarding this house?

“Iru, you! What kind of maid kicks her master in the back? If he wasn’t Thomas, you’ll be fired.”

“Hmph! It’s bad enough that he lets you get behind him so easily! He’s diligent  working enough!”

“He is… That’s for sure.”

“Don’t be so sure, Shun!”

“Just kidding, just kidding. Welcome home, Thomas. Took you long enough this time, didn’t it?”

Shun, as he was called, spoke to Thomas in a broken tone.

To which Thomas replied, “A lot has happened…”

The girl who kicked Thomas, and the man who admonished her…. I wonder what kind of position they are in.

At least it doesn’t look like a master-servant relationship.

When Thomas notices my confusion, he changes the subject.

“I’m sorry, Amelia, for making such a racket.”

“No, it’s just…”

“You look like you’re wondering who they are.”

“I want to know who this girl is first! my Lord, tell me.”

Her eyes…

It’s like she’s always suspicious.

Thomas lets out a small sigh.

“Well, I’ll introduce her first. This is Amelia. She’s an alchemist who will be working with us from now on.

“An alchemist?”

“Seriously!? Is she the one you were talking about?

“Yes, yes. Stop it, Iru. I’m embarrassed to talk about it in front of her.”

He’s embarrassed.

Apparently he’s been talking about me for quite a while.

The way she reacted, it seemed like he complimented me a lot.

I’m a little embarrassed too.

“Hey Thomas, how did she get here? I thought you said she worked at the palace…”

“She’s been through a lot. I’ll explain it to you. Why don’t you come into the room first? Iru, go get Mr. Clavell and Mrs. Loren, please.”

“Is the reception room okay?”

“Yes, please.”

She nodded, turned away, and ran up the stairs.

He continued talking to me and Mr. Shun.

“We’ll wait in the room first.”

“Oh.”

“Yes.”

Ara?

I guess he didn’t introduce the two of them after all…

I didn’t know what was going on, but Thomas led me to a reception room on the second floor.

In the middle of the room was a long, horizontal table.

There were about ten chairs evenly spaced, I sat on the left side and Thomas sat next to me.

Mr. Shun took the seat opposite me.

A few minutes later, the door of the room opened and a girl named Iru brought in an elderly man in a black butler’s uniform and a woman with peach-colored hair wearing a maid’s uniform.

The three sat down at Mr. Shun’s side.

“Everyone is here! I’ll introduce you all first. Wouldn’t you like that, Amelia?”

“Yes, I would like that.”

I’m especially interested in the relationship between them and Thomas.

“Okay, from right to left. This is Shun, my bodyguard and advisor.”

“Pleased to meet you, Miss Amelia. Thomas has told me many times how proud he is of you. I’ve always wanted to meet you.”

“Pleased to meet you. Oh, I see… hahaha.”

“That’s okay.”

I don’t know what to say to that.

What did you tell him that you were proud of?

“Let’s move on. Next to her is Irumina, the punk maid who just kicked me in the back. We’ll call her Iru.”

“What part of me is a punk maid!”

“Everything. Where in the world is there a maid who kicks her master in the back? There is only one in the whole world.”

“That’s right! I’m the only one!”

Thomas sighs loudly in the face of her confident boast.

“She may be like that, but she’s a good girl with a heart of gold. Amelia, please be good to her.”

“Y-yes. Pleased to meet you. Um, Irumina-chan?”

“Iru is good! You’re Amelia… I’ll call you Big Sis Lia.”

Big Sis Lia?

I’ve never been called that before…

Is that what people call?

You call each other “good friends”.

That would make me happy.

“Nice to meet you! Big Sis Lia!”

“Yes. Nice to meet you…

“Irumina. Be polite to our guests.”

Interrupt her from next to her.

She gives her a slightly cold look, and Iru-chan shrinks back.

“M-Mother…”

“Didn’t I tell you? You’re supposed to be polite, especially when you meet new people.”

“Well, that’s…”

“I’ll teach you again later. You need to be punished.”

“Ouch, I’m sorry.”

Iru-chan, who was so full of energy and strength earlier, looked like she was about to cry?

Her mother?

Maybe she’s a scary person…? I wonder?

Then a man dressed in black next to her opened his mouth.

“She’s just a little upset. I’m sure Irumina was overjoyed to have a visitor after all these years.”

“Grandfather…”

“Don’t do that, Father. It’s not in Irumina’s best interest to spoil her.”

The conversation between the three continued.

Iru-chan’s mother is here, and her mother’s father?

As I am dumbfounded, Thomas says to me.

“The three of them are related by blood. They come from a family of servants who have served our family for generations.”

“I see.”

That made sense to me.

The conversation that was taking place in front of me was very family-like, and I had to smile when I heard it.

I wonder if Thomas felt the same way.

For a while, no one stopped them, and we watched the three of them.

But still…

They look like they are having fun.
