Asgardian Sword God

Chapter 25 - Battlefield

The next morning, Vali put on his remodelled version armor of the official Asgardian Army, the Einherjar.

And back when Vali first received the normal armor, he put it on to test it out.

Vali found out that it is a lot harder to move when he wore the normal armor. As such he began to tinker and modify the suit to in such a way that he could merge it with his body.

Though this might seem impossible, with the merging ability of his devil fruit powers and his increase in knowledge about the energies present in the universe, he could barely achieve this feat.

When Vali first had this idea to merge the armor with his body, he first tried it out in several other things to see if it will be possible to do so.

As he observed from his experiment that the idea is attainable, he quickly went ahead and heated the metal that made up the armor. And Vali strikes the metal continuously until almost all the impurities are not left in the metal.

Since the amount of impurities is almost non-existent, this made it to be completely malleable.

But that's not all, after this, Vali begins to melt the entirety of the metal once again. And before the melted metal could harden, Vali quickly senses and detect the properties of the energy present in the metal.

Learning the properties of the energy and metal, Vali then immediately wrote runes on it to match the properties of his own energy.

As such, Vali made the armor in a way that he could merge with it and change the shape according to his d.e.s.i.r.es.

Additionally, Vali added some runes on the armor that will help increase the absorption of energy of his passive skill.

Though Vali did this, he found out that the armor could not conduct the intake of energy properly. Even if the armor is better than what he was assigned with due to its malleability and merging ability, Vali is not content with the conductive properties of the metal.

Although Vali could change some of the properties of the metal, there is a limit to what he could change. As such, he could not increase the amount of absorption of energy and change the properties of his own energy at the moment.

But, this low absorption conductivity of the armor did not affect the output of Vali's skills in any way.

Since Vali knew that he could perform this feat with his armor, he also naturally made it in such a way that his clothes are able to merge the armor.

With this, Vali did not need to get new clothes every time he retracted the armor to make it appear like he is wearing the designated Einherjar armor suit.

_________

Retracting the armor to make it look like he is wearing the designated suit of the Einherjar, Vali then approached the Bifrost to get transferred to the battlefield.

Though Vali is excited that he could increase his strength, he felt sorry for those people that will be affected by the war as a bystander.

And even though he isn't scared, as he had never participated in a true life and death war, Vali felt nervous.

Just outside the Bifrost on the rainbow bridge, Vali stood among one of the three rows of people that are waiting to get transferred.

After about half an hour of waiting, a man walked out from inside the Bifrost and begin to address the crowd, " All of you will be sent to the battlefield in Svartalfheim. Some of you are new and this is the first time you will participate in a war. Do not be scared, you are all the proud warriors of the Einherjar. Dying a glorious death in battle is what a warrior should experience and wish for. "

After saying this, the man lifted his fist up in the air and said, " For Asgard and for Valhalla. "

Hearing this, the crowd shouted in unison as they all lifted their fist up in the air, " For Asgard. "

Then, immediately, all of them begin to get transferred one by one through the Bifrost.

And within a second after Vali got transferred, he is standing right in front of what seems to be an army encampment.

Vali saw that the environment around him had completely changed. He saw that the scenery is completely different from Asgard.

Within his sight, Vali could not see any buildings or ruins of them. And below his feet, he saw that he is standing on top of the gravel that is dyed light red in blood that resembles a rusty look.

Even the hills and the mountains are all covered in the same gravel. This is gravel due to the obliteration of the existing buildings after a long war. And the discolouration of the sand is due to the sea of blood that has been spilled over the course of several millennia.

And even the sky and the atmosphere, the light of the sun of Svartalfheim was not able to properly shine on the realm since even during high noon, it seems to look like the evening sky.

Not only that, most of the clouds possess a rusty red appearance which makes it harder for all the other colors of light to pass through. As such, only light from the higher wavelengths could permeate the rusty clouds.

As Vali is scanning his surroundings, a man not far away from him called out, " You? Who is your commander? "

" Commander Kriger. " quickly replied Vali.

" Go to that tent and report. " said the man as he pointed at a huge tent in the distance.

As Vali approached the tent, he saw close to 500 warriors assembling in front of the tent.

And in front of the huge crowd stood around 5 people who seem to be the officials. Three of these people stood in the middle while the other two stood at the corner opposite to the warriors that assembled.

Vali then swiftly approached one of the officials that stood at the corner and say as he stood at attention, " Vali Reporting for.. "

But before Vali could finish, the man interrupted, " Get in line, there's an urgent matter. You can report when it's over. "

Hearing this, Vali joined the legion of warriors standing in front of the tent.

Then, one of the people that are standing in the middle in front of the crowd started to speak up.

" We received a report that the dark elves troops are advancing. Everyone, prepare for battle. "

Said the man who looks like a 6 foot 5 inches tall mini-hulk wearing a golden suit of armor.

After he said this, the man scans the crowd of warriors before him.

" March out. " the man said as he put on his helmet and grab a ranseur, which is a three-pronged spear like a trident except that the one in the center is at least twice as long than the ones on the corner.

Hearing the order of the man, the troops immediately turned around and marches forward.

As they are marching Vali then asked one of the warriors beside him, " Who is that man speaking before? "

" He's General Kriger, the commander of this legion. " replied the warrior

" Are you new here? " the warrior then continue to ask as he is surprised that Vali did not recognise him.

" Yes, I just got assigned and transferred here today. This is my first time in battle. " replied Vali.

" Don't worry. I'm a veteran, follow me if you want to live. " said the warrior as he laughed.

" I'm Vitra, what's your name?" the warrior asked Vali as he keeps on laughing.

" Vali, Son of Odin. " replied Vali.

Vitra eyes widen a bit in surprise, then he patted Vali's back as he said, " Awesome! Right as the King left, they send his son. "

With Vali going to the battlefield, he obtained the chance to increase his strength. Not only that, he now has the chance to gain the respect of the true warriors of Asgard which could help in obtaining his promise with Idun.

Vali leaving Asgard and going to the battlefield, he is not the only one who saw this as a fortuitous event. Since Vali is now out of Asgard and would be at the risk of dying every day, Angerboda could not risk to let this kind of opportunity slip away from her hand and remove one of the biggest obstacles in her plan, Vali.
