Asgardian Sword God

Chapter 31 - Vanguard

Vali and Vitra continue to train themselves following the same routine every day. With each passing day, Vali grew stronger and stronger.

Though, Vitra too experienced an increase in his strength, since his power level is already over 10,000 and the fact that he is not like Vali, the amount of increase in Vitra's power level is almost insignificant in front of Vali's growth.

And during those days, Vali remained extremely vigilant. He did not want to face something unexpected like the assassination attempt on his life that has taken place on the battlefield.

As such, he had spared some time every day to search and look into it by himself. Despite his efforts, Vali is unable to find a single clue. It seems like the assassin has vanished into thin air.

Vali knows that if he had detected the assassin using his Haki previously, he would not be in this predicament. Knowing that the assassin is way better at covering his tracks than his ability to track down the assassin, Vali decided to take a short rest from his search.

During their training, as Vali wish to change his habit of flying without much thought.

Vali realised that being more versatile would be a gain for him. With that in mind, whenever he practises his domain skills with Vitra, Vali would use his flying ability.

At first, Vali found it extremely hard to just hover only about a foot from the ground as he had picked up the habit of flying however he wants to fly.

Since he only knows about people capable of flight from his previous life through fiction, he had trained himself based on that information.

Besides, from what he could remember, all the character he read or saw in his previous life that possesses the ability to fly rarely face the problem he is facing right now.

But now, since the situation he faced currently urged him to be able to adapt and alter his habit, Vali determines to train himself again.

In the beginning, whenever Vali felt threatened, he would instinctively fly up. But, as time passes, Vali experienced an improvement. He had completely change this habit of his. Now, he is able to hover without changing his altitude even when Vitra throws several weapons towards him at once.

Before long, two weeks had passed since Vali came to Svartalfheim.

Observing the same routine they had always diligently followed for the past two weeks, Vali and Vitra quickly went to the armory and carried out several weapons.

After that, the two of them immediately went to the place where they usually train. Before they train to increase the proficiency of Vali's ability, like always, they agreed to have a quick spar without the help of any weapons.

Unlike the first time they clashed and fought against each other, without any help from his skills, Vali could now last about a minute before his eventual defeat.

"How is it that you are weaker than our first fight?" Vitra scratches the back of his head as he asked in confusion.

"Uh.... What happened the first time is because you are still a bit drunk and had a hangover." Vali darted his eyes and make minimal eye contact with Vitra. He did not want to say the truth due to embarrassment.

"Oh... that make sense." Vitra said as he nodded his head.

"Shall we move on with our training?" Asked Vali.

"Sure." Replied Vitra as he went and pick up the weapons.

"I will throw this axe first." Vitra muttered to himself. Then, he picks up a two-handed axe.

Holding the axe with both of his hands, Vitra begins to swing his arms backwards.

But, before Vitra could complete the swing, a voice suddenly yells out from behind him, "Vitra, stop what you are doing right this instant."

Hearing this, Vitra quickly stops the swing and turned his head to see who is the person that yelled at him.

"Sigfried, what do you think you're doing?" Flaring his nostrils in anger, Vitra yells out.

Ignoring Vitra, Sigfried quickly approaches Vali.

"What do you want?" Seeing the man before him, Vali asks.

"General Kriger has summoned you. Follow me." Said Sigfried in a commanding voice.

Hearing that the General is asking for him, without any further questions, Vali quickly follows Sigfried.

As he passed by Vitra, Vali said, "I'm sorry. But it seems like we have to skip our training today."

"Don't worry. It's not a problem." Replied Vitra, then he continued, "You go meet the General and I will put back the weapons in the armory."

"Thank you."

Vali and Sigfried left the place and went directly to General Kriger's tent.

"Vali, come in and take a seat." Instructed Kriger from behind his desk as soon as he saw Vali walking into the tent.

Hearing this, Vali quickly sat down in front of Kriger and ask, "General, why have you summoned me?"

Rubbing his palms together, Kriger said, "Here's the thing, from our investigation, though we are not able to find out the culprit behind the attack, we believed that it might be a dark elf capable of shifting himself."

Vali narrowed his eyes as he asks, "Is that true?"

"We are not sure. But, as there is no other explanation, we came to that conclusion." Replied Kriger.

Vali quickly suggests, "Maybe it is a dark elf conspiring with an insider."

"We have thought of that possibility. Since we cannot investigate outside of the camp thoroughly, we cannot proceed any further." Replied Kriger.

"Oh..... Guess I will have to wait for some time then." Vali felt a bit disappointed that he would not be able to obtain the evidence to incarcerate Angerboda as soon as he would wish it to be.

Tilting his head downwards, Kriger says, "I apologise."

"Don't worry, I understand the problem." Replied Vali. Then he continued, "Is that all?"

Crossing his hands, Kriger leans forward and say, "No, there's another reason why I summoned you."

"What is it?" Raising his brows, Vali asks.

Leaning back in his chair, Kriger answered, "I have learned that you possess several magical powers. I was hoping you would teach the warriors in the legion."

"I'm sorry to disappoint you, but, those powers are something I am born with. I do not know a way to teach them." Replied Vali.

"Oh... " Kriger sigh out in disappointment,

Deeply thinking for a minute, Vali continued, "But, I have a skill that I may be able to teach. "

"That's great." Kriger's face brightens up as he hears this.

"What do you need? " Excitedly ask Kriger.

"Give me one person. I will test and see if they would be able to learn the skill. Then, we will discuss how to proceed. But don't get your hopes up." Replied Vali.

Hearing what Vali said, Kriger immediately called out, "Siegfried!"

Hastily entering the tent, Sigfried answered, "Yes General, What do you need me to do?"

"After we finish our meeting, follow Vali from now on and do as he tells you." Ordered Kriger.

"I understand." Immediately replied Siegfried.

"Is there anything else you want me to do General?" Asked Sigfried.

Waving his hand, Kriger says, "No, that's all. You can leave."

Hearing this, Sigfried immediately left the tent to stand guard outside.

Turning his gaze towards Vali, Kriger resumed, "One more thing. I made you a vanguard for our legion."

Widening his eyes, Vali blurts out, "What!?!"

"You don't want to be a vanguard? Are you thinking of defying the order of your superior?" Kriger says as he cracks his knuckles.

"Of course not." Forcefully forming a smile on his face, Vali reluctantly agreed.

"That's all, you can leave now." Said Kriger.

Vali immediately stood up and begin to walk out of the tent. As he is strolling out, Vali muttered, "Why does that Kriger have to make me a cannon fodder? If only his power level isn't that insane."

As his mind is preoccupied, Vali forgot to inform Sigfried to follow him.

Noticing that Vali is walking past him, Sigfried calls out, "Vali, wait!"

Hearing this, Vali immediately halted in his path and turned his head. Seeing that Sigfried is jogging towards him, Vali suddenly recalled that he had promised to teach Sigfried a skill.

"Go and search for Vitra and tell him to come to the place where we train." Immediately, Vali told Sigfried as soon as he reaches him.

"What for?" Raising his brows, Sigfried asked.

" Just do what I tell you. Or did you forget what General Kriger ordered you to do?" Sternly responded Vali.

"I understand." Saying this, Sigfried left to search for Vitra.

Following Sigfried, Vali then left the vicinity of the tent and begin to walk towards the training ground.
