Beast God

Chapter 48 - Fierce Battle

Night slowly descended and Ben disappeared into the shadows. He traveled throughout the city, in the shadows of buildings from the moon light.

Ben saw some zombies wandering around but they seemed to be outcasts. Ben decided not to kill them and continued to make his way towards the centre of the city. Ben started to hear roars and screams, the closer he got to the city centre.

'What the hell are they doing?' he wondered as the screams got louder.

Climbing to the top of a building, Ben had a full view of the zombies and their activities.

A giant pool of red liquid was surrounded by hundred of thousands zombies. On the one side of the pool were beasts in cages. They were roaring loudly and slamming against the cages, trying to break free. Ben noticed something else caged and squinted his eyes.

He was shocked to see what he did.

Humans were stuffed into cages next to the beasts. At least ten stuffed into one cage. Ben felt angry but also confused, 'Don't they eat humans? Why are they caging them?'

A tall zombie with a large staff walked out onto a small hill, overlooking everyone else. He was 3m tall and thin, his eyes seemed to glow with blue flames and a spark of intelligence.

A spoke loudly in a language that Ben didn't understand, it sounded like grunts and gurgles to Ben.

When he finished speaking a large cheer erupted from the zombies, it was deafening. The leader pointed to the caged humans as a number of zombies climbed onto the cage and tied a rope to it. Then they pushed the cage into the red liquid.

Ben could hear the screams for mercy as the humans submerged into the red liquid. Ben clenched his fist but didn't act, he didn't have enough information yet.

The leader started to speak in a trance like voice and started to sway with his words. Some mutated zombies walked over to the beasts cages and quicker slit their throats, letting the blood poor into the large red pool.

The leader then approached the pool and took out a knife and cut his wrist. A single drop of blood fell, causing the pool to turn a deeper shade of red.

The leader continued to chant as the liquid started to boil. The chant stopped and the leader looked exhausted, holding onto his staff to stop himself from collapsing.

The mutated power zombies pulled the cage out of the pool. Slowly the cage emerged from the pool and the humans were no longer there.

In their place were 10 mutated zombies. Not just any mutated zombies though, these zombies looked stronger than any Ben had fought against before.

'They are somehow changing humans into power mutant zombies. I need to stop this.' Ben quickly merged with a shadow and disappeared from the top of the building.

The leader was guarded by 10 mutant zombies. Five of them were speed and the other 5 were power.

'They have been humans that were transformed into zombies.' Ben thought as he felt threatened by their presence.

Ben adjusted his grip on his swords as he waited for an opening.

Ben waited for him to walk into the moonlight, creating a shadow for him to attack from.

Finally Ben's opportunity came and he melded into the shadows.

The leader was using his staff as a walking stick as he walked towards the new mutants. He suddenly felt a shudder in his shadow and quickly put up a shield of blood around him.

A split second later a sword struck his shield, piercing it halfway through.

Ben was shocked but quickly attacked again with his lightning. He sent the guards flying with arcs of lightning coming off his body. Ben continued to attack the blood shield, trying to reach the leader behind it.

The shield finally broke but the leader wasn't standing behind it. Instead he was standing behind one of his guards.

"A human. Powerful too. You will make a great addition to my blood guard." a raspy cold voice came from the leader zombie.

'It can speak?' Ben thought surprised. He didn't answer and attacked the leader again. The mutant power zombie let out a loud roar and attempted to block Ben's attack.

Pushing his lightning element to the max, Ben defended himself from all their attacks and countered. He was able to wound them but not kill. He continued to attacked, pushing his sword play to the max.

The leader was watching with an ugly face and commanded two of his remaining 4 power mutants to help deal with the human.

'Takon get over here!' Ben cried out in his mind.

A loud roar came from above as a blue streak came from the sky and landed on the ground, instantly killing some zombies.

James was sitting on Takon's back, he jumped off after Takon had landed.

Not asking why they were here, he yelled, "Kill the leader James! He needs to die!" Ben was still fighting five of the speed mutants and he hardly had a moment to think.

James sprinted towards the leader. The two remaining power mutants stepped in front of the leader, facing off against James.

'Ava grab the humans in the cages and take them to camp!' Ben said as he suffered a scratch on his back, causing him to suck in a cold breath of air.

He sent a bolt of lightning at the zombie, stunning it for a moment before cutting off its head.

Ben killed 3 of the speed mutants but he was injured himself. His leg had a nasty cut on it and his back had a scr.a.p.e. If it wasn't for his armour it could have been much worse.

ROOOARRRR!*

Taken let out a painful roar as thousands of zombies were climbing on him. He was being overwhelmed with numbers.

"Use your fire and burn them all!" Ben yelled as used his Beast Imitation skill.

A pair of beautiful black wings sprung out of his back. He took off into the air and flew towards James.

James had just killed a power mutant and was attacked the second. The leader had disappeared somewhere during the battle.

Ben grabbed James by the arm and carried him into the sky.

'Forget about the humans and raze the place Ava!' Ben told her. He felt sorry for the humans still trapped in the cages but he needed to protect his city.

Both Takon and Ava covered the city in white and black flames. Burning everything they could.

After the city was set on fire, all four of them returned to camp. Ben dropped James onto the ground and collapsed himself, the wings disappearing from his back. He had very little practice with flying and carrying James was extremely difficult for him.

Ava had minor injuries as she laid down and started a fire. James wasn't injured but a frustrated look appeared on his face.

Ben was busy healing his wounds, absorbing Natural Energy.

After he was finished, the mental exhaustion set in and he could barely open his eyes. He pushed the boundaries on his powers today, causing damage to his body.

Ben soon fell asleep, unable to resist his exhaustion.
