Becoming Immortal

Chapter 1 - Rebirth

Waking up in the body of a ten year old boy with memories not my own, in a completely different room than i fell asleep in the night before was terrifying to say the least. I had died, or at least I think did, and then I was reborn.

Surprisingly, that terror went away relatively quickly, a sense of peace and acceptance washing over my mind in an instant. Not natural, but something to worry about latter. That left me pacing around my room calmly going over my new memories. I discovered a few alarming facts quickly, I was no longer living in modern times. The level of technology, and current common knowledge all pointed to this being a Bronze Age civilization.

The name of the Island I now call home is Crete, and the city I reside in, Knossos. The very heart of civilization for the part of the world, and time period I'm in.

It seems my new family makes their living as beekeepers. or more accurately as beekeeping overseers. Apparently its a very lucrative industry, and we enjoy a high standing as a result. My name was Aster, no last name just Aster, or more formally Aster son of Baerius.

The most worrying fact I learned is the name of the ruler of this land, and the myths and legends surrounding him.

Minos.

As in the son of Zeus. First King of Crete. Likes to regularly sacrifice fourteen children to be eaten by a monster. That Minos.

Besides superstitious stories of men turning into animals, and demons killing you for your blood, there doesn't seem to be any evidence that this is a Mythological Greek world. I'm still going to keep an eye open for anything suspicious, but it seems from all my memories I'm just in the ancient past and not some other world.

No Gods, monsters, or supernatural beings. Completely mundane.

It's of course at this point in time when my entire body bursts into flames.
