Being Summoned Isn't Easy At All

Chapter 30 - Prelude To A Real Fight

The fire burned brightly under the fuel of dried leaves and sticks. A spit with a large one meter dead boar rotated above it. Deck was attentively watching over the boar for our breakfast and the other two on the other hand.

Dean and Dandy were having a scuffle. They had told me through gestures that it was just a friendly spar. Yeah, they do that when boredom hits them.

Clang! Two-headed axe met with a worn-out buckler. The results were unsavory for Dandy.

He had blocked it but his buckler gained a new dent. Dandy deflected With narrowed eyes, the buckler was used as some sort of cestus. An uppercut had pained Dean who fell back on his bum. Rubbing his chin to alleviate the pain.

They kept at it until Deck conjured two fireballs that intercepted both of the gobs. The food was done and I dug in.

Ehew! The food was good but it caused me to gag and lower my spirits. It's trash compared to that girls cooking.

I do wonder. How are those two doing? For one, I can tell that my mysterious master is worried about me. And the girl with daddy issues is concerned about my whereabouts.

My thoughts wandered to Stella.

Her braided silky smooth golden hair, rosy satin white skin, and clear blue irises had me guessing about her real identity. For one I do not believe that Stella White is her real name.

The name felt too off for me and the way she paused before saying it had me doubt more.

"The eyes are the window to a person's soul." That was a saying my father used to tell me.

I sighed... He might be gone now but his memory is burned into my mind. No matter how calm nor how great my d.e.s.i.r.e to forget him, I simply can't.

He was kind he was strong and he was a mystery. Hector Xindam Simmons. He taught me everything he felt that I should know. How to succeed, true proper judgment, a mind that thirsts for knowledge. And the ability to read and discern other people's natures.

I can tell that my master is kind. But just as Beatry has resentment hidden deep inside her eyes, That woman was the same.

Fear, Uneasiness, Guilt?

Ah, there was one thing that made me wonder more.

She was troubled. Anxious of something like a burden was heavily pressed behind her, as heavy as a mountain. She carries some sort of huge responsibility behind her back.

She concealed all of it under her kind and warmness that even made me favor her gentle character.

She was rich I could tell. Her reserved manner of eating, a straight posture that never falters. Her hands were devoid of calluses.

I frowned. Who was she really?

She is an adventurer but that doesn't explain why she knows magic and is very proficient on it.

In this world that is ruled by swords and magic. Magi would not easily spread their knowledge nor just teach them to just anyone. Everyone is selfish in a way after all.

You have to bribe them with money to teach you, be extremely talented or be a special person. Someone of high status. Or you could find someone as kind as Stella who wants to teach talents.

Admit it. Such types of people are extremely rare.

Now tell me, Stella... Why would you want to go into the so-called dungeon of Arus?

A bear which I suppose is the rock Ursa Athal spoke of came from the bushes and charged at us. The three gobs were unsure about what to do as they were outmatched.

Roar! Sharp claws came bearing down on us. Well, this is irritating.

Boom! With a casual punch, the bear practically flew into the air, broke through two threes and have itself be embedded in the third one.

The trees were a meter and a half thick and the lowest was six-meter minimum. I don't understand how I was able to uproot one of these in the past.

I stared at the broken figure of the Ursa. It sagged down while the c.h.e.s.t caved in.

I don't know why every time I kill a monster I feel like it is such a waste. Unluckily for this Ursa, if it had known that my raw attributes were approaching three thousand, it wouldn't have gotten the guts to attack us.

A pity indeed. Monsters struggle to level up. And this one just had its efforts in becoming stronger to go down the drain.

Do not disturb me when I am deep in thought.

Gobs cheered and I told them to quiet down. We left the area, looking for needed things so I can complete the quest.

Still... What could Stella so possibly seek in that dungeon? From her own words itself. If the two of us were to enter as we were right now, would be crushed like bugs.

That statement, coming from someone who can nearly kill a juvenile dragon albeit the lizard being injured is enough to be able to gauge how deadly the dungeon is.

That reminds me. When will my damn level rise? My raw base attributes are still shooting up. Having such an absurd foundation is nice but I need some levels. And I don't have a class yet!

The only ones available to me are the basic tier ones. I don't want that. That won't suffice.

A bush with strangely red-colored bulbous small leaves caught my attention. Wait what is that?

=====

Red Rose Mary

- Slight healing properties

- Edible

Description:

A Red Rose Mary could be used in cooking delicious dishes if used well. Beginner Alchemists love practicing making healing salves out of such plants. A Red Rose Mary is born from a rosemary that had absorbed enough blood for three weeks.

=====

Isn't that lovely? I went to it and picked it up. A paper from my pocket flew out and s.u.c.k.e.d the herb into it. Another quest is done.

Let's see... I only need to find that missing staff and get everything that Athal wanted.

I have to find and kill a tree person for their heart. Get the skull of a Shadow Leopard, a Hobgoblin and whatever a Blood-Soaked Badger is.

Focusing more on my senses, my nose picked up a scent of a wild beast from far away. There were multiple. This one smelled like aromatic flowers. A herbivore?

Wait I could smell blood. It reeked of a fishy smell and the thing was passing near us. If I didn't do anything then the monster would just pass us without any trouble. Judging from the smell, it seems to be a carnivore.

Perfect.

"Let me have this for a second." My two hands took hold of Dandy's shield and Dean's two-headed axe. Bringing them together I made a ruckus so that the Beast would come at us.

Clang! CLang! CLANG! Banging the metal equipment together, loud sounds surely attracted the thing.

I sensed the thing stop. It's footsteps and the crunching of dried leaves halted.

Growl! I heard growling and gave the two dumbfounded goblins their things back. Crack my knuckles and readied myself. The moment a dark shadow came from the bushes, I inspected it immediately.

=====

Leveling up the observation skill and throwing up for it came with benefits huh? Neat.

I looked at my gobs and then at the badger who was growling aggressively at me. A mix of red and white fur covered the body of the small giant before me. It was quite large.

The red fur-lined its eyes well and it looked like war paint. I glanced at the gobs and part of me wanted to pit them in against this thing.

I firmly suppressed that d.e.s.i.r.e. As much as I want to train the three and strong opponents are needed to level them up quickly, that badger would have enough strength to kill them ten times over.

Being torn to shreds would be the only fate for them if Dean, Deck, and Dandy fought that thing just by the three of them. But I was here and I can contend with the thing.

"All of you stay behind me. Dandy don't even try to block an attack from that thing as much as you want to. Everyone maintains your distance and I'll make sure to keep it occupied." I fired off a string of commands.

The thing was strong due to the enraged state it was in. But it was still slower compared to me. We can win this but it would be a real struggle.

Up until now from being summoned, I haven't been able to fight anything really strong and this badger is the first.

I leered at the thing who was prepared to lunge any moment now. Alright, little thing.

Let's dance.
