Betray The Ill

Chapter 8 - Long Week - 8

With her last day off for the week, Roma decided that she should visit her mother. Kassy's mention of her made sure that there was little else that Roma could think about. She ate her breakfast slowly, trying to think about what she would talk about with her mother. Nothing ever changed in Roma's life so there was little she could bring her up to speed about.

Ruckus gave his owner a curious look. He could tell that she was upset. He had received a lot less love than he was accustomed to. Rather than complain, Ruckus simply stayed by mama's side in support.

Roma noticed him sitting on the floor by her feet. With her mind as busy as it was, she had simply eaten her food standing up in the kitchen right after she made it.

"Don't worry, boy," Roma told Ruckus. "Everything will be okay."

The weather outside was nice again. A light breeze with a warm glow to the day invited her out for another journey into the world. Although, she was going much farther than she had the last two days.

The train ride would take her the better part of half an hour. Leaving the concrete and steel of the city, Roma raced along the railing into the green countryside of the nearby mountains. She always enjoyed the lush nature when she had the opportunity to see it. Roma had always wished she could afford to live out in the country, but the prices for homes and land were high. A life in the country would happen someday, but not any time soon.

It was a lot more comfortable, the train she rode in. It was a step above the usual trains into the city that she frequented. Not many people traveled into the mountains and because it was a much longer journey, the cars had been made a little more luxurious by comparison.

A young lady in a uniform came by a couple times to make sure she was okay. She had offered her a complimentary drink or snack but Roma declined. Too much was going through her head to make her want to relax fully. She felt stressed out by the life she had made for herself, but was it really all that bad?

'Nothing is wrong with my life. I'm just being a w.h.i.n.er.'

Eyes heavy with sleep creeping in, Roma stepped off the train after it came to a halt at her station. The basic elevated platform with tiny ticket booth was open to the air and falling victim to creeping vines. She loved how nature was everywhere.

From where she stood she could see over the partial roof of the station and up the mountainside. Clinging to the side of the green giant was a large building of glass and stone. Roma would need to hire a driver to take her up the dirt road or she would never make it up on her own.

It had been a longer stretch of time than usual since she had visited her mother. So much so that she couldn't accurately count the days. Mother would probably be very upset with her about it, if she remembered who Roma was.
