Black Onyx - Forgotten Magic

Chapter 46: Fangs of a Viper, Part 1

It was already afternoon when Gerald and Sera came back. The city of Geldern was bustling with activity and the citizens were running around on their various daily tasks.

Not wanting to waste any more time, Gerald went to the Guild straight away to deliver the goods from the mission. For the twenty wolfskins that were in good shape, they received three hundred silver coins. It was the same as three gold coins, just more convenient for everyday use.

They split the reward evenly and then each went on their way.

Sera stayed and chatted with Luna, telling her of what happened on and after the hunt. She also confirmed that Gerald could use Wind magic.

"So he can use all Elements after all… Wow, that's amazing. And you said he beat five Iron 3 rank warriors?" Luna asked.

Sera quickly nodded and said, "Yes, I don't know what exactly happened because they chased him after he ran away. But, not long after, they came back and they were all bruised and bleeding, and they had torn clothes. They became submissive and timid around him. Even Adelard lost his arrogance when before him."

Luna chuckled, teasing, "It looks like you found yourself a good partner. You have known him for like what, not even a month? If I remember correctly he had some trouble fighting just one bandit when you met first, right? That's some rapid progress, we need more guys like that."

"I guess you are right," Sera sighed, "I'm just worried that Adelard will try to get revenge, you know how he is…"

Luna thought for a while and then comforted her, "You shouldn't worry about the Serrell family. They are already in a tough spot. We are just waiting for them to slip and make a mistake so we can remove them."

"I'm confident that Adelard will not try to do anything that could endanger his family even more. Older people still remember the stuff from the past and they are not going to let it happen again. Although they are a noble family and Egott is the Lord of the city, his power is greatly limited. So really, you shouldn't worry about it. I'll mention it to my father just in case anyway."

"Thanks. You are a really good friend."

"Oh come here you, you little scared bunny," Luna laughed and hugged Sera. Then they both laughed before splitting up.

Meanwhile, Gerald went to buy new clothes for himself. He just got some simple cloth attire since he had a few ideas about his new armor.

He also went and sold the damaged wolfskins for some extra silver. They were each worth less than half of the good ones. He also sold a few weapons he confiscated from Adelard and his henchmen, only keeping the fancy sword that belonged to Adelard himself.

"I have to say, this guy has a pretty good taste in swords, luckily he met me, otherwise it would be such a waste for a good sword to stay with an incompetent master, haha..." Gerald laughed as he examined the sword.

The handle was nice and comfortable, wrapped in soft leather for a better grip. The blade was straight and about a meter long, with a long groove along the middle. The crossguard had a bright red gem embedded on both sides.

With a little bit of probing, Gerald discovered that it was a Fire Crystal, a low-quality one. Although small, they both contained 25 LIS worth of Mana.

"What the hell? Adelard was just casually walking around with a treasure like this? I don't remember him being a mage…especially not a Fire mage."

Thinking deeper about it, Gerald came to the conclusion that Adelard probably took the sword because it looked cool and not because it contained Fire Crystals.

"I don't know how expensive this weapon is, but just the gems have to be worth at least ten gold coins. I really struck it rich, haha…"

Altogether, with the pelts and swords sold, Gerald now had almost seven gold coins. Now it was time to think about a new and better armor. For that, he went to the Guild's craftsmen and requested a custom made armor from the skin of the Silverback.

Because he provided the materials, the whole attire cost him only two gold coins. If he wanted to buy it without providing the materials, it would be around five gold coins. The leather from the Silverback was much tougher on the outside, while soft on the inside.

It was the perfect material for making armor for constant wear.

Gerald, of course, didn't get the armor immediately. He had to wait for a week for the whole process to be done before he could collect his new attire.

Meanwhile, in the Serrell family mansion.

Adelard just came back home, when a servant came running towards him.

"Young master, the distinguished guests Green Fang came by a few days ago. We told him that you were absent, but he refuses to leave. Your father is keeping him company, but it seems like he wants to speak to you, personally."

Adelard glared at the servant. He just came home from an exhausting adventure and he was in no mood to entertain guests. But, when he heard it was the Green Fang, an idea was suddenly born in his head. He ordered, "Tell Lord Green Fang that I will be there momentarily. Firstly, I need a change of clothes for this occasion."

The servant went and relayed the message to the guest. As announced, Adelard shortly came to the room where his father Egott Serrell and Lord Green Fang were chatting.

"Adelard Serrell humbly greets Lord Green Fang," Adelard respectfully greeted the man and even slightly bowed. The usual arrogance and haughtiness were nowhere to be seen.
