After completing his rigorous training with Yoruichi, Mei, and Yūshirō, Yuichi knew it was time to take the entrance exam for the Spiritual Arts Academy. Amidst this sea of individuals, one young lady caught his attention. Her captivating beauty was undeniable, with flowing blonde hair and striking blue eyes. Her fair complexion and ethereal charm made her stand out from the rest.

 

His focus shifted when an examiner emerged, beckoning everyone to enter the Academy grounds to commence the exams.

 

The entrance exam comprised three main segments: the written test, the physical test, and the practical test. The candidates were divided into groups, with Yuichi and the enigmatic young lady placed in the same group, while Mei found herself in a different group.

 

Written Test: This section tested the applicants' knowledge of various aspects of Soul Reaper culture, history, and abilities, primarily through multiple-choice questions. Yuichi managed to navigate through about 70% of the questions confidently, thanks to Mei's prior discussions on these subjects during his training. His attention often strayed back to the beautiful young lady, who had swiftly completed the written test well ahead of the others. He marveled at her knowledge and intelligence and managed to finish this portion of the exam when half of the candidates had handed in their papers.

 

Physical Test: The physical test evaluated the candidates' physical prowess, including endurance, strength, speed, and agility. Yuichi had to balance showcasing his abilities without drawing too much attention. During this segment, he couldn't help but notice the incredible agility and stamina of the young lady. Her performance left all the examiners in awe, showering her with praise.

 

Practical Test: The practical test gauged the candidates' ability to control and utilize their Reiatsu and their proficiency in the four major Shinigami combat forms: Hakuda, Hohō, Kidō, and Zanjutsu. Yuichi demonstrated average competence in three of these areas, yet he failed to impress in Kidō, only shaping his spiritual energy. Meanwhile, the young lady displayed a masterful command of all four major Shinigami combat forms, leaving Yuichi in no doubt that her abilities far surpassed his own, regardless of his effort.

 

The enigmatic woman continued to intrigue Yuichi, and he couldn't help but wonder about her background and motivations for joining the Academy. Although he knew he'd have to wait until the end of the exam to learn more about her, he had a strong sense that he had encountered someone extraordinary.

They also worked on honing his ability to communicate with the spirit within his Zanpakuto, alongside other skills that would prove valuable at the Academy. It was during these training sessions that Yuichi learned Mei also possessed a Zanpakuto and had already achieved her Shikai release.

 

Shikai, the first upgraded form of a Zanpakuto, could be activated by learning the name of one's Zanpakuto and establishing a strong connection with its spirit. This advanced form granted the Zanpakuto new abilities and a change in appearance through an incantation.

 

Yuichi, curious about the significance of having a Zanpakuto before joining the Academy or achieving a Shikai release, asked Mei for clarification. She explained that it was unusual for most ordinary students to have a Zanpakuto before entering the Academy, as they typically received one during their second year of studies. However, noble families, such as the Shihōin house Mei served, had the privilege of granting Zanpakuto to their members. Mei had received hers six years ago due to her family's connection and was grateful for the opportunity.

 

Yuichi felt a sense of gratitude for Yoruichi, knowing that it was her intervention that allowed him to retain the Zanpakuto. Mei reassured him that Lady Yoruichi recognized his hard work and was pleased with his dedication. She encouraged him to continue training diligently, as it was the best way to express his thanks.

 

With the added training, Yuichi aimed to gain an advantage over some of his fellow students when the Academy began. He was resolved to become the best Soul Reaper he could be and eagerly anticipated the future that awaited him at the Academy.
