"Nah he's not waking up" "Yeah alright I'll call him in sick"

Jason had his eyes closed as he was waiting for the impact he thought he was going to feel, however he waited for a while before realizing that there was no air whistling past his ears and no falling sensation either. He could feel that he was lying on something soft. He opened his eyes and shot up, looking around with vigilance. He hesitated not believing what he saw, it was his old room back on college campus. He figured it must be some sort of flashback or dream he was having before the impact when suddenly he heard a loud *Ding* followed by a mechanical voice saying {[System activated]}-{[Scanning host]}-{[Host Confirmed]}-{[Displaying Status Page]}. Out of nowhere a transparent blue screen popped out in front of Jason displaying a blue human model and rows of information to its side.

Jason stared at the flickering screen hardly believing his own eyes he slowly reached out to touch the screen. When his fingers came into contact with the screen he felt a very abnormal sensation. The screen felt..... solid but not .....solid he felt like he was touching water but at the same time it also felt like he was touching solid metal. He thought to himself "What is this thing? .... Am I not ... dead??"

As if to answer those questions the mechanical voice sounded again, this time it said {[The system is a product of technology originating from an extinct race not from this planet, and no you are not dead you were simply sent back 4 years in time to 3 days before the apocalypse]}. Almost jumping from shock Jason yelled "WHAT". The system replied again {[To sum up your current situation, the virus that will turn 85% of all life on earth into zombies as you call them is the same virus that wiped my creators out of existence, I as a system was created to fend off against this virus. It was intended to mass produce the final version of me however it was too late, they never got further than me, all the previous versions of me had been integrated with important personnel of my creators race but in the end they were all infected by the virus. Our planet didn't have more than 100 years of lifespan left after the last of their race was infected, when our planet reached its end it naturally broke into pieces that then wandered around space, which then broke down further and further throughout time. The meteorite that contains the virus will land here in approximately 2 days and as soon as it enters the atmosphere the virus will spread. The meteorite is the part of my planet that contained me and has been wandering around space for _-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_ years. Initially I arrived here along with the meteorite and was the transported to the laboratory in that one day space before the Blackout, however now that your blood activated and engulfed me I'm part of you so in this timeline I don't exist outside of you]}.

Having a hard time digesting all of this absurd information Jason concluded that this had to be real as he simply did not have the imagination to dream of something like this. Calming himself down he asked "What are your functions, what are you, and how do I stop the virus?". The system answered {[You will discover and unlock my functions through time and gaining points, as of now you only have access to *Quests*, Rank 1 *Shop*, *Attributes* and Rank 1 *Vehicle Core Functions*. As for what I am it is complicated, I am not actually an independent existence I am merely a copy of your personality imbued with memories of my home planet and of the system, you could call me a guide of sorts or an interactive encyclopedia. And finally the virus cannot be stopped, cured or destroyed, all you can do now is prepare for what is to come]}.

Gritting his teeth Jason asked again "Can you draft a plan for me to prepare?". {[Yes]} the system replied, {[It is recommended that you try your best to get hold of a proper vehicle, as much food as you can and then try to do as many pre-Blackout quest as you can, they will be very rewarding]}

As if knowing exactly what Jason was going to ask next before he himself even thought about it the system continued {[Quests are ranked by the current phases of the apocalypse, for now its pre-Blackout, the next phase will be post-Blackout and should last approximately a month or until the first zombie ranks up to Rank-9. You don't need to worry about later phases right now but you need to be aware that of the first five phases pre-Blackout quests will be the most rewarding as the system will be able to gather stronger energy from your actions before the virus starts blocking the energy particles]}. Jason pauses, then gives a loud sigh and says "Display the current quests please".

A blue screen then popped up.

With a roughly outlined plan in mind Jason got out of bed and went to the bathroom knowing damn well that this was probably going to be his last time taking a proper shower, he was feeling excited over being able to enjoy the privileges of a peaceful life once more, even if only for less than three days. After cleaning up he went into his dorm room again picking out a few sets of his sturdiest clothes he wore one set immediately and packed 8 sets into a medium sized trunk. He was about to walk out of the room but then he suddenly realized something, turned around and opened his top desk drawer and cursed "Shit its not here where the heck did I keep it?" closing the drawer he opened the middle drawer "Not here either....." and then finally he found it in the bottom drawer, It was his trusty Shadow Beam, It was the same silvery rod he used in the laboratory, except this one had a black winding snake pattern with its mouth positioned so that it looked like it was spitting a light beam, It also had a small black cube dangling from a chain at the bottom end of the Beam. Hurriedly tucking the Beam in his belt he gave one last look at his dorm room before swiftly striding out the door not even bothering to close it behind him.
