Blood Horizon: A New Beginning

Chapter 5 - Post-Blackout (Apocalyptic World)

When Jason finally woke up he felt both light-headed and groggy, however the surrounding scenery completely snapped him out of his daze. The whole parking lot and its nearby facilities were covered by a light red hazy mist, and he could see gore and freshly gutted corpses all around. Whipping his head to the side he was relieved to find that Mark was seemingly fine but still unconscious. Taking a second look at all the carnage he noticed that there were quite a few zombies shoveling their now clawed hands, into the fresh corpses, drawing out guts and stuffing themselves similar to Gourmets finding the most delicious food in existence. As he had seen such scenes far too often in his previous incarnation he wasn't really shaken by these low-leveled Z's feast. Doing a quick recap of what had previously happened he immediately remembered Kyle. Trying to shake Mark awake he almost yelled, but then remembered, that zombies are attracted to loud sounds, choking back the yell he, said in a low voice, "Shit, Mark wake up, I'm gonna need your help man.".

Despite his repeated attempts at waking Mark, his brother seemed to be in too deep of a slumber. Resisting the urge to keep trying he put his hands on back on the steering wheel, and pulled out of the parking lot. In the recent years, almost all new cars came equipped with an auto-start feature and completely automatic gearboxes, all he had to do to control the speed was to keep his right thumb on a small switch on the steering wheel, sliding up to go faster and down for slowing down, to brake instantly he could also press hard on the switch. Driving carefully past a large heap of cars he pondered whether the drivers crashed them before the Blackout because of the Origin Zleep as they called the initial unconsciousness, or perhaps by trying to escape after waking up. He felt that it was more likely due to the Zleep, as he didn't believe that a lot of people woke up before him. The entrance gate had been completely demolished, most likely due to a speeding truck, which was fortunately nowhere to be seen. Pulling up Kyle's number he dialed it only to find that phone service was already down, bashing his left hand lightly on the steer he realized that thing would most likely be quite different from his previous incarnation, as phone service had still been online for 3 days after the Blackout in his past life. Thinking hard, he realized that there were only three gaming centers where Kyle could be, and one of those was the biggest one in the city. Hoping for the best Jason set course for Kyle's favourite GC, thankfully the roads still weren't terribly blocked as there had only been a few initial Zleep crashes, most of the roadblocks would be created later on after people woke up and started trying to escape the city. In less than five minutes Jason arrived at the center, figuring that he would need a weapon he recalled the weapon draws awarded by his system he stated out loud, "Start weapon draw and firearm draw now.".

{[Initiating Draws]}{[Due to this being the first Random (Weapon) Draw initiation, chances of a rare item are increased, would you like to apply chances to Firearm Draw or Meelee Draw]}. Putting no thought to it due to his worries Jason immediately opted for Meelee.

{[Meelee Draw concluded, items can be retrieved from your inventory.]}{[Low-Power Firearm Draw concluded, items can be retrieved from your inventory.]}.

"Retrieve all weapons from inventory Jason commanded", and 1 blue and 1 black flashes later, 2 items were sitting in front of him on top of the dashboard, a small sleek black pistol and a simple silver rod with a black pattern, pretty much identical to Jason's Shadow Beam other than a microscopic hole on the front part, although Jason didn't really notice that difference as it was far too small to be seen by the n.a.k.e.d eye. Tucking the pistol in his waistband after a short observation, he grabbed the Shadow Beam copy, opened the car door and hopped out, after making sure it was all clear. He took a second look at the rod trying to find a button, or just about anything that might indicate how it could be used as a weapon, finding nothing he tossed it to the floor in a mix of disappointment and rage at the useless thing, pulling out the pistol he aimed it at a the road about a meter in front of him, and pulled the trigger. The only reaction was a small black beam, no recoil, no noise, no visible damage, only that small black almost invisible black beam. Calming his rage stemming from the feeling of being tricked he tucked the pistol back into his waistband and jogged over to the point where the beam had landed. As soon as he got close his Jaw almost dropped right to the floor in his shock, right in front of him on the road was a hole the size of a baby's fist going as far down as half a meter. Even an assault rifle would take at least fifty shots to the same spot to deal such damage, feeling shivers creep up his back he reached for the pistol as he felt it was not safe to keep so close to his body, only one shot and he would most likely lose his leg. Chiming up the system said {[The Raven 3 model, cannot harm its owner or anyone that he does wish to kill, it fires energy particles that will bypass any organic matter which the owner does not truly have killing intent towards.]}. Relieved of his worries Jason left the pistol in his waistband silently quoting "Silent, but deadly" and made his way to the GC quietly. Reaching the front with no trouble, he tried the door, *click*, the front door was locked, but there was a broken window to the side with glass scattered all over the side walk. Spotting a flickering hologram floating where the window used to be he managed to make out the words "Closed.... Main.... Due.... Sick....". He immediately recognized that the center had been closed from business most likely due to many sick employees or maintenance. Cursing he ran back towards the Camper but stopped dead in his tracks when he found an 80 centimeter long gash in the road in front of his car which had certainly not been there when he arrived. Spotting the Shadow Beam copy lying very close to this new gash he looked around swiftly and made sure there was no entity of any kind in the vicinity other than him and Mark. Gingerly picking up the rod he examined it again finding no difference, he felt a sneaking suspicion. Turning away from his camper he walked up to a nearby wrecked car, stopping about 60 centimeters away, he gave the rod a light swing and to his surprise the rod buzzed slightly and shot out a bright blue glow forming into a sword shape, and slicing through the car's front like a knife through paper with very little resistance. Remaining for about 1 minute the beam disappeared after Jason made no further swings, running back to the car with exhilaration, he felt happy to have gained two amazing weapons. Hardly able to calm his excitement he was unable to remain pessimistic about finding Kyle, starting his car again he drove towards the second center.
