Born As A Senju In Naruto

Chapter 2 - Informing Jiraiya

Somewhere in the Land of Water~

To Jiraiya,

Please make way to the Land of Waterfall. I am currently in the place we had our prior engagement. The matter is beyond even S-class in importance.

~Tsunade

'What's so important she actually asked for me personally? Usually, I have to be the one to track her down for matters of importance,' thought Jiraiya. He takes one final look at the town he was about to enter, trying to decide if he should finish here or immediately head to her. After a brief moment, he turns heel and leaves. 'Oh well, I can always come back later. Let's see what the slug princess wants.'

Three days later, Jiraiya arrives at the indicated town. It wasn't exactly a small town, but it wasn't big, either. It had enough traffic to be prosperous but discreet. Jiraiya headed over to the bar he usually would find Tsunade at only to realize she wasn't there at all. Thinking he'd probably just beaten her here, he decides to sit down. Before he can, the bartender catches his attention and informs him that someone had asked her to inform someone matching his description that they'd be waiting for him across the street at the diner. Puzzled, he heads over, but before going in, he peers inside, scoping the place out to make sure there wasn't a trap meant to lure him in. He sees Tsunade sitting at a table with her head down in the manner usually seen when she's dealing with something truly frustrating to her and decides it's not a trap. The only odd thing was the unusual amount of attention she was paying to the basket on the table next to her.

"Hey Tsunade", Jiraiya calls as he sits down in front of her. "What's with the big emergency?"

Instead of answering, she just slides the basket over to him. Jiraiya notices she has a weird look on her face, almost like she seemed to be trying not to hyperventilate over whatever it is that's got her so stressed. Genuinely curious now, he opens the top of the basket and almost jumps at the sight of the child inside of it. Jiraiya asks, "Where did this child come from? I'm assuming it's the reason for the urgency and importance greater than S-rank, and if so, what makes the child so special?" Obviously he was not even thinking of the bet they'd previously had, because like her he had written it off as an impossibility.

Tsunade took a deep breath for control as she mustered up her courage to tell the truth before she could bail out with a lie. "Th-This is our daughter. She's six months old now, and I may have inadvertently stole the five-tailed bijuu when it was on a rampage and impulsively decided to seal it inside of her…" She continues to explain why she didn't tell him right away. and now the obvious reason of why she had to. After she finishes her story, she sits there feeling like she's waiting on a death sentence, since she knows how much Jiraiya hates to be tied down by anything. She had even avoided looking him directly in the eye this whole time out of guilt.

Jiraiya's brain was malfunctioning from the first sentence she spoke. Though he was clearly listening intently, it took him a while to react, and when he finally did, it took Tsunade by surprise. He just simply reached over, picked up his daughter, and held her close as tears of joy started to well up in his eyes. He had gotten something he thought he'd never have due to the way the events in his life had played out to this point: a family. "What is her name?"

Still stunned, Tsunade automatically answered him, "Hikari. Hikari Senju."

The only thing that truly concerned Jiraiya at this point was the strings of decisions that were very much unlike Tsunade. However, he put it to the back of his mind as the best thing to ever happen to him had come out of it. Little did they know that the culprit behind Tsunade's decisions had been their daughter and a certain mischievous goddess.
