Born As A Senju In Naruto

Chapter 4 - Returning to Konoha

Jiraiya and Tsunade spent about a month taking care of their daughter, enjoying their time together before having to return to deal with the village. Upon arriving at Konohagakure, Tsunade tasked Jiraiya to watch their daughter and stay nearby while she went in to visit Hiruzen by herself. After all, it was mostly just her problems that needed to be addressed as Jiraiya himself was actually allowed under orders to be out of the village for so long.

"Hello, Hiruzen-sensei," she said, entering the Hokage's office while eyeing the ever-multiplying paperwork that seemed to litter the whole office.

"Welcome back, Tsunade," Hiruzen replied in surprise. He knew she'd entered the village, but he had thought that it might only be temporary and quite unlikely that she would come to see him. "Are you planning on staying in the village now, or will you be leaving shortly?"

"Hmm, I'll be here permanently from now on," she remarked, still thinking about other matters she wanted to bring up. "I won't be working working though, just so you know. I plan to just live in the village."

"Oh, but as a registered shinobi of Konoha, you're required to work since you haven't officially retired yet. You also left early last time, so you still have quite a bit left to do before you can quit." Hiruzen pointed out, adding, "Also, the elders won't just let you come back for nothing."

"I know," she said, sitting down across from Hiruzen. "However, they cannot make me work because I still have the Senju estate that I never touched, despite my bad habits with gambling. It was only my personal money that suffered."

"They won't let you just have access to that, either," he said with a frown. "Surely you know that?"

"They have to, after all. If they don't, they would have to take blame from the whole village for the next Senju heir not being treated properly," Tsunade said with a smirk. Though she felt bad about using her daughter like this, she had to or she wouldn't be able to take care of her and raise her personally. Then, as an after-thought, she added, "I will make concessions, however, and agree to training and teaching medical ninjutsu. This will require the council to at least agree to expanding the hospital, conducting more research, and allowing the school to start teaching basic medical jutsu to those in the academy who are skilled in chakra control."

After a moment of time, Hiruzen replied, "Hmm, but would they agree to it? I mean, after all, your last plan was rejected."

"Yes, but last time I was trying to get an immediate impact from it. I believe if we start slower, it will be less costly and more bearable by gradually increasing the size of the teams with graduates who have the knowledge rather than rushing to install it immediately," Tsunade proposed.

"Hmm. That seems doable, and at least having one of the best medical specialists in the world as an overseer and trainer is better than nothing," Hiruzen begrudgingly admitted. "Now, about that next heir of the Senju. Isn't it about time I meet them?"

"Sure," she said before calling out, knowing Jiraiya would be nearby in case things went south and they needed to leave again. "You can come in now, Jiraiya."

"Haha, Hello Hiruzen-sensei," Jiraiya called awkwardly from the open window as he made his way into the room, knocking down a stack of paperwork he tripped over before catching himself on the edge of Hiruzen's desk. He let out a sigh of relief, taking the basket off his back, setting it on the desk, and opening it to reveal Hikari. "This is our daughter, Senju Hikari." Tsunade glared at him with a look that could kill toads, making a note to herself that Jiraiya's clumsiness sometimes could be a bit disastrous.

"Your and Tsunade's daughter?" Hiruzen asked with surprise, standing up. "How did that even happen?"

"Well, I lost a bet..." Tsunade replied, stopping as a slight blush crept up her face before reiterating. "I lost a bet, and we got married. During the honeymoon, this and that happened, and I got pregnant. I mean, I didn't even try to take preventative measures since the likelihood of it happening was slim to none at that point in my life. Guess I'm just a sucker for gambling, huh?" She laughed awkwardly.

"I see. So that means you two can finally stop dancing around your feelings and accept them like grownups now that you have a legitimate reason to do so?" Hiruzen said with a smile on his face, teasing his two students.

Annoyed, Tsunade decided to outright drop the bomb on him that he'd be forced to clean up. "You should know that Iwagakure royally f.u.c.k.e.d up and lost the five-tailed bijuu completely, which could have resulted in widespread catastrophe. What you don't know is that I was the one who stopped it." She hesitated before adding, "And, I uh, might've sealed it inside Hikari."

Hiruzen sat back down, trying to comprehend the last comment. He rested his face in his hands, letting our a long and exasperated sigh. After a few more awkward and painstaking moments of silence, he looked back up at Tsunade, exclaiming with a dreaded tone, "Now Tsunade, please tell me why you would be so foolish to do something like this."

"Uh, spur of the moment?" She replied cautiously, putting a hand behind her head and grimacing uncomfortably. She then stood up and began edging her way out of the office, signaling to Jiraiya with her eyes to follow.

As the door was closing, Hiruzen sat there thinking heavily, 'Oh God, what have I done to deserve this?!'
