Broken Destiny

Luciera couldn't do anything but just continuously brush his hair gently and feel his soft tresses go through her fingers.

She tried so hard to be strong for the both of them, but her eyes were traitors. A tear escaped her eye, and it fell on his forehead. And this was a trigger for more tears to come out.

She waited for him to open his eyes, but they never did. Only his heavy ragged breathing reminded her that he was still alive... and in pain.

Is she being selfish? For letting him stay awake although he is clearly suffering and going through pain?

Then she remembered what that strange woman had said to her.

'Now your destiny is broken'

It played over and over inside her head. Is this what she was pertaining to? Is this her broken destiny?

She thought hard, even when her thoughts hurt her.

'If I hadn't met Leo... he wouldn't have to go through this pain? If we hadn't happened, would this not happen, as well? If I hadn't been so selfish, woukd he still be suffering in pain?'

Dark thoughts enveloped her head. It hurt her when she knew, that she was the reason why Leo is suffering now.

She cried. When should she be happy?

And finally, she made up her mind.

"Rest now, Leo," she sadly said with tears streaming down her face, "I'm sorry for letting you stay despite the pain you are going through right now."

She felt him move slightly on her l.a.p, and despite her sadness, she smiled.

"Maybe in this lifetime, we are not for each other. My mother was right, you are not for me, and I to you. We do not deserve each other. All the signs around us, says it all. You do not deserve me," she bitterly says. Are the royals really for royals, only?

"I am a royal, and I have duties. I was to marry another royal, to broaden our kingdom's connections and boost our power. But destiny had been unfair and made us meet each other. We fell in love, only now to fall apart.

"This love had destroyed us, turned us into different people. You changed, I changed, for what we thought was for the better. And I'm sorry..."

She could not continue on for her tears were too much.

She closed her eyes and prayed for all these to be a nightmare. If it is, she wanted to wake up now.

Her tears stopped when she felt a hand on her cheek, brushing away the tears.

She opened her eyes before crying again. She puts her hand over Leo's, feeling it for the last time.

"I wish to see you again, in my next life, Leo,' she cried, "that is my greatest wish. In this life, and for my next. That will only ever be my wish," she swore.

She saw him smile a little.

"I love you... and goodbye."
