Broken Tower Saga: The First Swordsman

Chapter 58: Elemental Test (2)

"It's alright, Kevin." Sophia said.

Kevin took back his arm as a deep frown was formed on his brow. He looked at the lady, who was his boss, to confirm the test with a little hope in his head.

"It's as I have thought, you don't have any Elemental affinity." Sophia broke the news. Surprisingly enough it looked like she was not surprised at all. It appeared she was expecting Kevin to not have any elemental affinity.

Kevin's expression turned dark, he was already expecting it but he couldn't help but feel disappointed. He wanted his lips to ask something but couldn't come up with anything. His lips tightened as the big guy shook his head.

"Can I try once more?" he asked.

"You can, but it won't change anything. The fast you accept it the better it will for you, Kevin. Remember, It's not the end," Sophia continued. "I didn't just recruit you for nothing, trust me I have other things planned for you. You have to wait a bit longer."

The big guy nodded and sat down on the mat. He didn't know what Sophia was talking about, nor the others but it did lessen his disappointment by a fair margin.

"Well," Sophia looked at Wrik and Jacob next, asking for one to come up.

Jacob looked at Wrik, who nodded, so Jacob came before the blonde woman to take the test. Similarly, he put his palm on the orb and transmitted Maha Mana into it. But contrasted with Kevin, the Orb didn't just remain the same. Only after a couple of seconds, a faint crimson aura appeared on it. And it only started to get brighter as the archer raised the amount of mana.

"What is it?" Jacob asked impatiently, his eyes were sparkling with enthusiasm.

"Flame," Michelle answered in place of Sophia.

"Excellent, fire is one of the most forceful elements of nature. It would come handy with your archery," Sophia said, then turned towards Wrik—the only one remaining. "Let's get over with it."

Wrik stood up next and moved in front of the Orb with a wildly beating heart. He nodded to Sophia before putting his palm on top of the orb. He discharged a considerable amount of Maha Mana into it and waited for some changes to appear.

His heart didn't calm down; conversely, it only raised further as the smoky mana transmits into the orb. He didn't have to wait that long, only about a couple of seconds before the orb showed some changes. A faint white aura radiated from the orb.

"Raise it," Sophia said. Her eyes never left the Orb for even a blink of an eye.

Wrik complied with her, raised the mana output by double as the whitish aura turned into a silvery light glittering wildly from the orb. Wrik recognised this silver light, its aura was quite similar to his innate ability [Eye of Insights]. But he felt more close to it now than before.

"Light," Tanya muttered, as Sophia nodded.

Wrik pulled his arm back as the result came.

"It really fascinating," Sophia muttered nonchalantly. "What are the odds? One got shadow while the other has the Light."

"Yes?" Wrik eyed the blonde lady.

Sophia shook her head. "Nothing, I was just contemplating where there's such a possibility that two of the rarest element were found so easily together."

"Is it really that rare to have a Shadow or Light element?" He couldn't help but ask.

"You have no idea," Sophia laughed; her eyes shone. "It's rarer than a decent level Designer."

"So does that make it more influential?"

"Of course. Each element comes with its perk, And Light has its own as well, but the issue is that being the rarest of the elements, it is one of the hardest elements to master. Moreover, it's even hard to find someone to teach you that."

Wrik furrowed his brows; like any other good news, there's always a but.

"Don't worry, I know someone who had quite a proficiency in Light element," the blonde lady continued. "Though getting her consent to teach might be. . ."

Sophia did not complete the sentence, but Wrik could guess what she meant.

"Ooh," Wrik contemplated inside and found it to be quite problematic, but he was not disappointed. It's only the beginning, and there are a lot more things to be disappointed over. Besides, who said he is hopeless learning it himself? Having a teacher would mean, he has a shortcut to get over all the unnecessary trouble of failed attempts, and no teacher means he has to invest more time and hard work in it.

Learning was always like this.

"By the way, how do I condense light from Maha Mana? I've seen Tanya doing it easily with Ice." Wrik asked.

"There are two ways, actually. The first one is similar to the Awakening. Tanya and your brother—Anton, go into this group. In this process, the Mahasayer unknowingly or knowingly uses the element." Sophia looked at her sister and Anton. "And the other way is excessively used nowadays. It uses an artificial catalysts to awaken the element within you. But there are some issues in it as well."

"Like?" Wrik asked again with uncertainty.

"It can cause trauma, and failure may cause brain damage," Sophia answered. "The only good about those artificial catalysts is that Mahasayer doesn't have to wait long to awaken their element. You don't know, but only awakening an element could transform some 3rd rate mahasayer to an elite." She sighed. "You don't need to worry about that, it's not like you have the capital to buy something like that. Besides, not everyone can buy such a catalyst, and the Omeganet doesn't entirely support the practice of such a thing. Let's not talk about it further."

A few questions popped into Wrik's head, stomaching everything Sophia said. But Sophia did not appear to continue on this topic. And he was right, her next words confirmed it.

"Let's start the mental training first. Everyone starts with the basic meditation."

Wrik sighed and complied with the training with the others. He closed his eyes and started sensing the Maha Mana in the room. And it didn't take him long to sense the mana in the radius of a dozen feet surrounding him. It's as easy as eating a cake.

But in the next moment, he felt something wrong. It became quite harder than eating cake, actually a lot harder than eating cakes.

The very moment he came in contact with the Maha Mana in the surrounding, something happened within the chamber. It's as if the Mana was fleeing away from him. The harder he tried, the harder it became to get hold of it. It's as if the mana in the surrounding had its own intelligence and didn't want to comply with his will.

"What's happening?" he asked, opening his eyes.

"Why is it so difficult?" Davin asked as well, confirming that he was not the only one feeling the rush.

The others were in a similar state as well, waiting for an answer from their instructor.

"Do you know why this chamber is so expensive?" Sophia asked with a smile on her eyes and lips.

"So, that was because of the chamber?" Anton said. "Is it our training?"

"Yes, from now on each day you would spend at least six hours meditating here," Sophia said. "It's good that you all have enough credits. If not, I would not be able to help you."
