Too Credible NPC. Achievements. Why did I Deserve This?

I quickly found the chief's house thanks to the local residents' help. I was angry with them for their attitude to Narylna. Although it wasn't their fault. The residents stared at me cautiously because my clothes were soaked with blood.

The chief's house was built of carefully crafted logs; carved shutters and a massive door were gracefully decorated. A metal falcon with its wings spread sat on the tiled roof. Gromwald was sitting on a bench nearby, carving a figure out of wood.

"Stranger, what happened to you? Do you need medicine?"

"No." I sighed and took the flower from my bag. "Look at this."

"What is it?"

"Alyrra's White Glow."

"Wow! May Areen bless you!" The chief froze in amazement. "It means that the Emmers were-"

"Yeah, right."

"But what about those two dead residents?"

"It was not Emmer's alchemists' fault," I muttered, but the chief asked a good question. "They were set up."

"M-m-mmm." The chief kept looking at me in surprise. "Why didn't we think of that before?"

"How should I know?"

"I'll apologize to Narylna and try to compensate for everything that she and her family lost."

"There's no one to apologize to."

"What do you mean?"

"The strangers killed her, and there was nothing I could do." I clenched my fists in anger. "If she lived in Oblivion along with the other villagers, they would not have dared to attack her." My anger seemed to plunge in Gromwald like many sharp needles. "If you had believed Alyrra, there would have been a lot of talented alchemists in your village, but... Emmer's clan faded."

"I'm guilty, Stranger, as well as my ancestors. But I can't blame them—their children were dead. They were getting married." Gromwald sighed deeply. "They were incredibly sad.

In those old days, they accused the Emmers clan of their deaths and evicted them from the village. Many Emmers were killed trying to justify themselves. I remember Narylna's mother and always helped her family because I never believed what my father and grandfather told me about them. I knew they were good people, but we had no proof."

"The residents didn't have proof to consider them killers either," I hissed.

"The whole family died because two people were killed by an unknown situation. They were outcasts for many years, and despite this, they still helped the villagers."

"I…"

"Gromwald, I need your help, and before you refuse me, look at this flower," I said giving the chief the bloody White Glow and showing him the information about the flower.

"A-a-ah!" His eyes filled with horror, and he looked at his house and me. "Please don't hurt my wife and kids. It isn't their fault."

This game is very strange: NPCs sacrifice themselves and cry. Such emotions are impossible for an AI. I'm sure because I'm the developer of artificial intelligence systems. The international team of 'Creator's Studio' seems to have been able to achieve a tremendous success—which is amazing even for a specialist like me. Perhaps, they were able to create artificial consciousness.

"You haven't understood me, Gromwald. I'm not going to revenge you; I want to kill the immortal strangers and kick them out of this world forever."

"But that's impossible."

"It's up to me." I stared at the chief. "If you see these strangers," I showed him the detailed information about the sc.u.mbags, "hold them off and call me."

"Well, how will I find you?"

"Use any fox-call, and I'll come in a couple of hours. See you later."

On the way back to Narylna's house, I wanted to read the messages, but I had no time to do this because I received another one.

How many healed injuries! I wonder what cured them. My hands trembled when I realized what they had been treated with.

I rushed to her house; it took me a few minutes to get there. I opened the door, went inside, and couldn't move. Nary was standing next to the bed. Her HP indicator showed that the girl was healthy, but she looked absent-minded.

Narylna in her ripped dress, still stained with blood, stood near the window and looked out. The girl was holding a flask containing a greenish liquid—the elixir of growth. I approached and hugged her.

"I'm glad the White Glow helped you." I sighed with relief.

"Who are you?"

The question blindsided me and I knelt down.

"Who am I?"

Her eyes, once filled with happiness and joy, were now completely empty and lost. Her face was deprived of emotions. She looked like an AI with its databases disabled.

Why is this happening to me even here? Why did I deserve this? Religious people might say that it was an ordeal that God has inflicted on me. I don't care about those people's opinion. Perhaps it was a coincidence. I don't care about this coincidence. I think it is a bad luck or a curse. I didn't believe in them in the real world. But they existed here. How can a curse from the real-world work in the game? I felt a terrible pain again. Something inside my soul ached, and my heart seemed to absorb this suffering.
