Minkar Followers. Reward. Cartographer.

That was the name of the underground movement against Ragan's power. However, it was rather obscure how they were going to get rid of the king without doing any harm to the country, because chaos in Mernor would lead to disastrous results, and they should take that into account. The monstrous king would certainly destroy thousands of lives. I really hoped that they had thought about it, because if they didn't care about the people, then they were no better than the usurper.

"For ten years we have kept trying to cause any damage we can to him and to throw him out of the 'carriage', so that other passengers wouldn't notice it." Beautifully said! I think he's a good person. "But so far we've failed miserably.

"Five years ago it was rather difficult when Ridd began to kill, and the king then blamed us. But the people know that we aren't guilty. I wish everybody knew it.

"We helped Kurbakht to look for Ridd, but we couldn't find him. It was a huge hit for us. For all these years, we haven't been able to come up with a way to remove the ruler painlessly—for the country and the people.

However, recently, we formed a simple plan. Unfortunately, it isn't entirely honest. Sorry, but I can't tell you about it yet. First, you must meet everyone on that list and talk to them. If they decide that you can be trusted, then we'll tell you everything."

I was glad to walk around and take a look as I was curious what was happening here. Maybe I would come up with my own plan on how to best remove this monster.

"You've really helped me and the others, so you can ask for anything."

"I don't need anything," I said, pushing my greediness away. "Perhaps just the answers to a couple of my questions."

"No problem, but I'm very surprised." The merchant looked puzzled. "For a long time I haven't seen strangers who refuse a reward. I'm listening to your questions."

"Where can I find a cartographer in the city? How can I get into the Mages Guild? And where is the Thieves Guild located?"

"You can find the cartographer here, the Mages Guild is here," he pointed at the places on the map, "but you have to find the Thieves Guild for yourself."

"Okay. Oh, and where can I transform this bag? I mean, I need to increase the number of cells."

"I can do it."

I gave him my bag, which flashed a couple of seconds later, and then he returned it to me.

"A special transformation that doubles the number of the cells."

Wow! Now I'm glad. My inner voice was also pleased and stopped being angry at me for refusing a reward.

"Anything else? I'm a bit embarrassed: all your questions are quite simple, and it seems to me that I haven't helped you at all."

"Hmm... then tell me, please, where did you get this watch?"

"My father got them from the strangers's clan called 'Technocrat'. It's a very useful device. Unfortunately, local masters can't do something like this.

"My father always boasted about it and never took it off. When he left the city, he left it with a note that he wanted me to wear it, like him, without removing it."

"It's interesting." I put a note down in my diary that I needed to talk to one of the technocrats and learn everything I could about the watch. "Well, I've found out everything I wanted, so I'll go to look for Treff."

"I'll wait for the good news."

"Oh, yes, I almost forgot: what does 'Minkar' mean?"

"That was the surname of the previous dynasty."

***

First of all, I decided to go to the cartographer since he lived the closest of all. Besides, I'd like to see how local cartographers looked. There were some advantages in the fact that I didn't read the forums: playing half-blind was much more fascinating. It was much more interesting to figure everything out on my own, although it wasn't as effective as with the guides' help. However, I needed to read the guides when I distributed the parameters.

I guessed I wouldn't be able to be this weak for a long time. I needed to be pumped up. It was strange that class skills hadn't opened at the tenth level, so I had no idea what parameter to put my skill points into. I decided to save them in case new skills and abilities opened at the twentieth level. Pondering, I got to the cartographer's house and went inside.

There were some cabinets stuffed with maps, and scrolls and books were everywhere—although this large room was still cosy and comfortable. The dust on the shelves and cabinets was also a part of the unique atmosphere of this amazing place.

Only a great globe sparkled with a clean surface, but there were just a few continents on it. Apparently, not all lands had been discovered in this world yet. There were also many compasses, rulers, and other instruments.

"Come here," I heard a hoarse, senile voice say.

After a couple of minutes of wandering between the cabinets, I came across a small table with a map, held down by four massive books.

An old man, dressed in simple clothes, was sitting at the table and painting an island on the map. His gray hair was disheveled, and his gaze was fixed on the pen tip. Honestly, I couldn't imagine that anyone could paint a map with such ink. He must be a master at least of the eightieth level.

I would have certainly spoilt it. The old man had a gold medal, depicting calipers against the background of a continent, hanging on a burgundy ribbon around his neck.

"Would you like to buy a map, young man? Or improve yours?"

"I'd like to lift the restrictions on my map size and enhance the zoom ability both in and out. I also want to master the skill of cartography."

"Oh, that's wonderful," the old man said. I read his name—Belvenor Augustus—above him. "Sit down, and I'll prepare everything. However, I must remind you first that it will cost you twenty gold coins." I took out these coins grudgingly and put them in front of the old man.

"Wonderful. Here, take a pen and calipers, they are necessary for the accuracy of the map. Try to draw any lands you already know, and I'll deal with your map."

Well, I knew geography well enough to help my friends, and I remembered the entire map of the planet well enough. I'd even drawn a piece of it for a bet, so I'd do it again. Anyway, it was very difficult to paint with an ink pen. Was there no pencil in this world?
