Chapter 49 - Vladimir's history and the mysterious library

-After purchasing the laptop, Rin went straight to the dorms giving it his all to ignore the discount on cheese one of the stores had. His fridge was already filled with it, so buying any more would just be throwing away money needlessly.

-Soon after entering his room and unpacking the box, he found himself in a serious predicament. Back home he often used Serah's computer, but actually setting one up and installing all of the programs needed for it to work were completely other things.

-He never did something like this and it was easily said a problem, but instead of falling to his knees on the ground and admitting defeat to the laptop and its programs that so evilly smirked at him, Rin smirked back. He had a secret weapon that could help him overcome this problem and that were the instructions.

-Putting on his glasses and taking a seat behind his desk, Rin opened the not so thick instructions handbook and flew through its pages in a matter of minutes. After reading all of it, installing all of the required programs was nothing more than a child's play and took no more than a few minutes to complete.

-The clock on the laptop struck midnight and having realized just how late it was Rin wanted to go to bed and sleep, be it two hours past his usual bedtime, but his urge to find any kind of solid information on the Vampire race was stronger, so strong that he decided to stay up a little while longer and search about it.

"I won't take long, just a few of them should be fine."

-His mind being set, Rin logged in with the dorms wifi and opened up google chrome. The first words he typed in the search bar were "Vampire encounter".

-The first article that popped out was from a user calling himself "Honex2002" on Reddit, and he talked about his "very exiting" encounter with a "real" Vampire.

-It was a very popular and somewhat touching story online of how a young and attractive vampire girl saved his life from being eaten by a pack of hungry wolves before disappearing forever and leaving him with a heart filled with love for her. Rin read the entire story and had to applaud the author as it was an interesting story, but not a real one.

-After reading the first few lines and seeing how he describes her appearance and way of acting Rin could tell it was a made-up story by someone who sought attention and fame online.

"....nothing again."

"It's like someone is hiding or even deleting all of the information on them and giving false ones to the public."

"Well, the public doesn't even know that Vampires are real so suppressing information would be a smart decision."

"...even so, there must be something out there that they neglected to erase. Information that slipped pass them and is laying in wait for me to find it!"

-He let out a deep sigh as he stretched his back on the chair before going back to searching.

-He wasn't about to give up that easily, he read other posts related to that one, other atticless and even websites like for chan. The Vampire topic was a very popular one it seemed as dozens upon dozens of links and websites related to it popped up.

-RIn went a clicked on every single one of them and read everything thoroughly and carefully, but in the end, he found nothing. Once again it was only made up stories or stolen and pasted parts from a novel.

-But then, after countless hours of what would seem like pointless and time-wasting searching, Rin turned the to the other page and finally found it. A whole page filled with information about Vampires and their history, but more than anything it focused around one specific person, that being "Vladimir Petrinski", or as it was clearly written under his name "The Vampire king!"

-The page was a darker yellow color and looked like it would fall apart by a single touch of a finger. It was filled with text from top to bottom and even had a sketch similar to that of Vladimirs appearance. Without a second to wait Rin started reading the text which said.

"Monsterous creatures called Vampires by human beings are nothing more than artificially created monsters by those same people, better said, a single person. From trail and error, that person wanted to create a perfect puppet, a monster that would obey his every d.e.s.i.r.e and be both intelligent and powerful."

"A monster that could crush his enemies in one fell swoop and serve no one else but him, but in the end, he created something that utterly brought him to his own demise!"

"Taking a dead body, William had managed to change its DNA structure by combining it with those of animals and other unworldly creatures he had in his possession. Alongside that, he managed to do something no other person could, something unbelievable."

-Rin swallowed his saliva in expectation as he was reading the texts.

"He modified and transferred the brain of a living human into the corpse he had created, and with the power of lightning and an unknown substance he managed to give life to the creature that would later come to be known as the Vampire King, Vladimir Petrinski."

"After the monster awoke and came to life, William came to know he had made a significant mistake in his work as Vladimir killed him on the spot and devoured him whole. The mistake he made was in his obedience, it would seem he had none, neither for his creator or other humans."

"After that point, the monster wondered the earth killing every person that came into his sight as well as satisfying his l.u.s.t, which the monster surprisingly had, by s.e.x.u.a.l relations with various women."

"His doing so gave birth to the next generation of these monsters, they were significantly weaker than their father but still showed traits that resembled his own. Such as drinking blood for survival and inhuman strength and regenerative ability."

"Not long after that Vladimir disappeared from the face of the earth like vanishing into thin air. His disappearance led to his children arguing about who would be their next leader, but due to not being able to decide a drudge grew between them and lead them to each go their separate ways."

"As they grew older and gave birth to more children and those children gave birth to more children, The four great Vampire families were established which lead to more and more children like those being born into the world."

-The two pages came to an abrupt end, but there was still more to find out. Gently and carefully Rin turned to the other page which was filled with the information about The Four great Vampire families throughout history all the way to the current time. It also holds information on their eating habits and specific abilities in general.

"...T-this is all correct!"

"His ability allowed him to change parts of his body to various kinds of metals, most of the time turning his skin pitch black."

"Long razor-sharp fingernails and an unstable thirst for blood. He had a habit of drinking his own blood after finding himself in a tough situation when faced with Master level martial artists, but defeated them none the less and dried their bodies from every last drop of blood they had."

"...this is Vladimir for sure!"

-Referring to his Canibal mode, Rin remembers it clearly as he went face to face with it as well as managed to destroy Vladimir while he was in it.

-There was no need to continue reading further, he was sure the information stated in the book was correct, that and he had found what he was looking for. The power Rin was after and had hoped to find any clues of how to get his hands on was not something he could actually do. They weren't powers anyone could get if they wanted to, but powers granted from genetic mutation and enhancements combined with years of mutation, only specific to them and them alone.

-The only way to obtain them would be to be born as a Vampire.

"It would seem that only those born from the blood of Vladimir are able to possess these powers, ha."

"In the end, it was all pointless..."

-Just like usual, he leaned back on the chair he was sitting on to stretch his back. It became a habit of his due to the countless hours spent behind the desk studying for the exams.

-Doing so he came to a realization, one that shocked him and even frightened him a little. The place he was currently at wasn't his room, nor any other on Prestige island For that mather.

-The things he had just read did not come from his laptop screen but from a book, an old one like which he did not have in his possession.

"W-where am I?"

-He immediately stood up from the chair in which he was sitting in and looked around himself. Rin found himself in a circular looking room, which instead of walls had bookshelves filled with all sorts of books.

"W-what is this place?"

-Turning his head back in front, Rin saw what would appear to be a small but very well kept and build table with a single book on it. The book was the same one he was just reading, still opened on the same page where he left off.

-Rin found himself staring at the book and seeming almost scared of it before gathering the courage and closing it. What he saw when he did so only made him more confused as the title of the book was "The Almighty".

"...Almighty."

-The book was quite an old one by the looks of it. it had its name written in black letters that were almost impossible to see due to the book's main color being pitch black with occasional brown on its sides.

-His curiosity got the best of him and he opened the book once again only to see a sight that widened his eyes and left him in an unexpected state. The page was filled with information about "Zenai's", creatures unlike any he ever saw before.

-No matter how many he turned the end was on where near in sight.

-It was as if The Almighty had no end.

"Does this book have no end?"-He said while flying through them.

-Seeing as its pages were completely empty with nothing more written inside Rin closed the book once again. He turned around and took a better look at the library in which he was currently at.

-Behind him was a spiral looking staircase which leads all the way up towards the library's second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth floors. Each of them was filled with a warranty of books from all shapes and sizes with only the sixth one being the exception.

-Except for books, each floor had a variety of old fashioned doors with yellow stones that shined a low but still illuminating light that gave the entire library its brightness, they were just like the rest of the library despite its almost oldfashioned appearance actually well preserved and in good shape.

"This feels like a dream..."

-Rin decided to see the rest of the library before he woke up. Although he said it felt like a dream that actually wasn't the case as he himself started realizing it. He was completely aware of who he was and everything that happened earlier today so the possibility of this being something like the OverWorld was more likely.

"No, this isn't a dream as I am aware of who I am as well as the event prior to today."

"If I had to give a wild guess I would say I was teleported to this place by some unknown power, just like when I was teleported to the OverWorld."

"This time it doesn't appear like there is anyone else here, just me and piles of books!"

"...If that's the case I'll take a look around."

I don't know how I found myself here, or where here actually is, nor do I know how to return back for that matter!

"It doesn't seem like this place is meant for fighting or anything of the sort, It looks like its purpose is to store information and knowledge."

"This might be a bad idea but my only option right now would be to wait until the librarian returns and ask him for help, If he doesn't try to kill me that is."

-He looked at the books on the shelves of the first floor on which he was currently on and noticed that one entire part contained history books. Humanity history to be precise.

-They were organized by year, going from millions of years ago all the way towards the present day.

-It was easily said weird. Someone had kept track of every historical event that humanity had done and wrote it down into books, no that wasn't the weird part, the weird part was it went all the way down millions of years ago to when humanity didn't even exist.

-Each of the books was thick in its own right and had a number on the side. The last ten books in order were unlike all others in the worse shape than the others. There wasn't even a speck of dust on them.

"Just what in the world is this?"

-There were multiple other books there that were just like those ones well kept and preserved.

"..."

-Time passed slowly and Rin looked at everything there was to look at on the first floor and so he made his way towards the second one.

-He stepped foot on the spiral staircase made out black metal bars and walked up towards the second floor were just like on the first one there was nothing more than a bunch of books and doors.

-The book's ups there were significantly deferent from the ones on the first floor. They were written in a language he couldn't understand, with words he never saw before

"What are these letters?"

-Shapes he never saw before were inscribed on all of the books on the second as well as all other floors.

-He tried to figure out what the lines were saying, but it was to no avail as in his mind it was nothing more than a bunch of lines in weird looking shapes he couldn't understand.

-He closed the book and put it back on the shelve from where he took it and made his way to the third floor.

-It was only not that he noticed one thing and that was that he couldn't feel his body.

-An unusual feeling took over his body as he noticed that he couldn't feel any pain after he pinched his arm.

"W-what?"

-Just to be sure he pinched his arm once more even hit himself in the stomach as hard as he could but it was just like before and he felt no pain what so ever.

"What is this?"

-Not knowing what to think about the fact he can't feel any pain despite the fact nothing changed about his appearance and now he was faced with yet another problem as a loud feminine voice shouted from behind him.

"Who are you, no... How are you awake?"
