Daily Life Of A Ponytail Girl

Chapter 7 - Rivals (?)

The girls had arrived at the Ethics Committee office. The room was filled with several chairs and desks which were full of papers and pencils.

"Welcome back Leader, did you bring in a suspect?"

Sitting in the room looking at them was a girl. She has long grayish-blue hair with a black hairband. her uniform was just like Akane's, also having a red arm strap which signified she too belonged to the Ethics Committee.

"I'd wish it'd be that easy to find suspects, but no. This is Yūi and she is willing to help us with this issue." Akane replied. "This is Yami Nashide, she's new on the team."

"It's a p.l.e.a.s.u.r.e to meet you." Yami said while standing up and bowing towards Yūi.

"Nice to meet you too." replied Yūi, answering the girl's bow with waving her hand towards her.

"Anyways, what is the current situation Yami? Any updates?" Akane said to get back on topic.

"None at all I'm afraid." Yami said as she sat down again, shortly followed by her taking a sip of a bottle of soda.

"Hey hey hey!" Yūi suddenly interrupted. "Akane, shouldn't you consider her suspicious too? She has a drink too!"

In a dismissive tone, Akane replied. "She got her drink just before this whole vending machine problem happened though, and afterward she even was the person to report on this whole problem happening to us. I don't find her overly suspicious, but I'll make sure to keep an eye on her."

In response, Yami gave a smile as she closed her eyes. "I don't mind being seen as suspicious, but know I'll give you the exact same treatment Leader. After all, you seem to be suspiciously driven to want to find the culprit. You claimed it is just because you want to settle this quickly, but how can we be sure you're not just trying to find someone you can push the blame onto?"

"Fair enough I suppose, just don't think I'll be waiting for you with my research." Akane replied.

"Ahem." Yūi suddenly said. "I'm feeling a bit of a rivalry going on here. . . Akane you meanie!" Yūi made a pouting face.

"W- what? What did I do? Akane asked, slightly caught off guard.

"You secretly went and got another rival behind my back? Was I not good enough for you? Despite all that I did for us? You was my rival, my arch-nemesis, my one true opponent!"

"W- why are you currently so clingy about our relationship?! Besides, I never even said that we were rivals, you came up with that whole idea yourself!"

"You. . . you. . . you super mega meanie!"

"Oh come on!"

Watching the two of them get at each other, Yami started wondering to herself if bringing Yūi into this team even was a good idea in the first place.

In an attempt to get back on topic again, Yami tried to start speculating. "W- well anyways to get back to the important matters. . .

"What do you guys think was the motive to do this to our vending machines? Maybe a plan to bring chaos to the school in an attempt to destroy it?"

"Hmm." Yūi started thinking. "Well, having our students suffer from dehydration would certainly damage the school."

"People can just buy drinks in the cafeteria though, so that wouldn't exactly work." Akane retorted.

"Or maybe it's all a distraction for the villain to execute their real evil plan during the chaos?" Yūi said coming with a new idea.

"Hmm. . ." Akane gave thought to Yūi's words. "But then, what would be their real goal?"

"Well like. . . I dunno I guess. . ."

"Yeah, such a setup sounds a little far fetched." Yami said while making a thinking face. "Maybe this is another one of those "Let's get the students to drink healthier" campaigns. The local old people seem very insistent on "helping" the youths in a way they deem fit."

"Doesn't destruction of property sound a bit extreme for some old people though?" Akane replied with a deadpan expression.

"Hey, don't underestimate the power of grannies and grandpas with too much free time." Yūi retorted, to which Yami nodded.

Yūi continued. "Evil old people are currently taking over our school Akane, we gotta make a front and stop them before it's too late!"

". . . Suppose you guys' old people idea is correct. . ." Akane began, "What would be your plan to deal with them?"

Yūi made a thinking face again. ". . . We could borrow a few baseball bats fro-"

"No."

". . . "

". . ."

"But-"

"Yūi if I hear another word from your mouth about a baseball bat I'll get one to use on you."

At Akane's threat, the ponytail girl gave up on the baseball bat idea.

". . . As expected of my eternal riva-"

"Give it a rest already!"
