Daily Life Of Divine Lord

Chapter 18 - Volume 1: 18- True Colors of the Angel

"Say, Mr. Mrakus. You and Master Morphus are both angels, right?" Kolek was in a tavern, with Mrakus as his unexpected company. It was safe to say, Kolek literally wasted himself, monetary wise and drunk wise.

"That is correct. Although unlike me, he never was deitified, so the body he is currently using is not his own."

"Been meaning to ask ya for a while now, how come your wings are white while his are black? Are there two types of angels or something?"

"No, all angels are born in the same realm, from the flowers blooming from the branches of the world tree, the tree that extends for the entire realm, covering everything from earth to sky. All angels have white or greyish wings, that is how it is, at least originally."

"Then does that make Master Morphus an odd ball then?"

"No. His wings were white before, but due to rather tragic circ.u.mstances he is like this now."

"Tragic circ.u.mstances? What do you mean? Did his girlfriend set him on fire or something?"

"No. Kolek, have you ever heard of a group called Divine Wings?"

"Divine Wings? Can't say I ever heard of such a thing, but sounds awful lot like Divine Lords."

"That is because that group no longer exists. The Divine Lords were inspired by the Divine Wings, of which Morphus is a former member. At least until almost the entire guild was exterminated by the Sword of Gods, Michael."

"Blaugh!" Kolek ended up spitting his ale. "Michael? Isn't that the name of the Archangel that many churches around the continent worship? Isn't he an angel like you guys, I mean the pictures they have of him on the cathedrals make it plain obvious due to wings…"

"Michael is no angel. But he indeed has wings, used to have eight, but now he only has five." Kolek's tone turned serious. "Divine Wings was a guild that was made for the sole purpose of giving safety and companionship to angels who refuse to be chained by gods. Many of their members were former Secondary Deities given corporeal bodies by gods, but who run away from their cruel masters. Some were like Morphus, who chose to occupy a human body in order to interact with the world. The Divine Wings was in a sense a safe haven for my kind, a place we could be among our brethren, safe from the wrath of gods who condemned us to either death or enslavement. Unfortunately the organization did not last very long. The gods saw Divine Wings as a threat to their own authority, so they dispatched their top enforcer, the Sword of Gods, Michael, The Purger."

"The Purger showed no mercy to any of the angels, one by one the angels were exterminated by him, bloody feathers raining on the ground, the bodies turning to ashes as he turned them to dust. The fire of gods is no ordinary fire; it not only burns the body but the energy of which our bodies are composed of. Terrified angels attempted to flee, but were instead swallowed in flames of his sword, all save for one. When Michael left, there was only one angel left there of the entire guild, his mortal body turned to ash beyond repair, but the injuries on his true body were far worse. To this day the burn marks show themselves scalding black, never to be erased from his true flesh, hidden until he spreads his jet black wings."

"Jet black wings…Are you telling me…"

"Yes, the sole survivor of the Divine Wings was Morphus. The wings are the sole thing about an angel that can show his true form while he is occupying someone's body. Ever since that day his wings were burnt black with the scars from the flames of the Purger. I doubt Morphus ever forgot this. One of the reasons he fights against gods is because of what they did to his brethren, and I completely agree with him."

"Is that why you joined him, Mr. Mrakus?"

"That is exactly why I joined him. While serving a Deity, I was forced to watch countless times as that Deity executed angels just for most trifling matters. With a single motion, the angel's body was dispersed into dust, exploding into a wave of nothingness."

"I thought you guys were energy beings? Can't you just collect that dispersed energy and reform the angel?"

"That energy is our real body. Let me ask you this, if I were to cut you up into sand sized pieces then spread your ashes around the globe, and then if I were to collect and put you back together, would you still be alive?"

Kolek gulped and shook his head.

"Indeed. What is gone can never be restored. But the gods did this even knowing that, that is why I will do everything in my power in order to overthrow them and free my kind." Mrakus put down the wine after taking a huge gulp. "Well then, see you around, little Darkling."

"Wow, that guy is even more driven than Master Morphus, scary~" Kolek muttered before gulping another chug of wine.
